CANTEEN UPDATE

We have been given the opportunity to open our canteen and run a BBQ, during NEAFL games at Coorparoo this season. This is a great way FOR CJAFL to raise extra funds, for people to get involved at the Club as well as come down and support the Lions Reserves. There will definitely be some good footy to watch and aspire to. Our first two games have been well catered for by our U16s & U14s. The next game our U13’s & U18 Girls teams are on duty. It’s a great day, so why not bring the family down to the NEAFL games and cheer on the Lions Reserves. Next game Sat 1st June, when the Lions take on the Suns.

Wow ... what a fantastic start to the season from U11 White! Page 3 I was so impressed to see some real teamwork, good hard play and terrific ball skills so early in the season. Overall the tackling and chasing down of the ball was great and it was a really competitive game with some very tired boys at the end.

What really impressed the most was that everyone contributed and gave it their best shot.

Firstly I would like to thank the boys from U12 and U10 who stepped in and played for us last week. Josh Corben and Jakob Rawlings from U12 showed fantastic skills and leadership along with James, Flynn, and Matthew Witten from U10 really stepped up by driving some great intensity on the ball.

Noah was captain this week and won player of the week. He took some strong marks in the forward line and tackled well. Connor Gearing won the encouragement award, tackling all day and scoring two goals.

Ben won the award this week for his efforts at training. He played really well and made some great tackles. Jacob Rumery also had a good first game with the club kicking two goals. Hugh showed fantastic determination by getting into the bottom of the packs and bursting out, or hand-passing the ball out. Max also did some ferocious tackling. It was great to see how much ball he was able to get for the team.

Ethan ran with the ball well on the wing and took a couple of bounces before kicking it into the forward line. He really stepped up this game. Matthew Leroy also took some strong marks in the forward line during the first quarter. Everyone noticed how much he had improved from last season. Great job Matthew.

Frazier took a couple of strong marks which really stood out, and got us the ball when we really needed it. Connor B ran well with the ball and made some really nice kicks into the forward line.

One memorable passage of play in the first quarter saw Jacob R burst out of the middle, took his two bounces, and passed it to Noah who marked the ball. Noah then played on, took a bounce, and kicked deep into the forward line. It ended up with Connor B kicking a goal and included a great effort also from Connor G.

We have some great leadership for the team this year from Murray our coach and Peter our team manager. So if I can ask all of the parents to pitch in over the course of the year and help out if asked, it will make this season an even better one for the boys. What we really need is someone who is happy to take on the role of official U11 White photographer. If anyone is happy to nominate please reach out to Peter Brockett on mobile number 0409 298 432.

Overall it was a great start for U11 White, with some real signs of it being a great year for the team!!

Great job everyone … play hard and man-up everyone … go U11 White !!

www.coorparoojafc.com Page 9 roos news Match Photo Reports Gallery Page 3 COORPAROO U14 vs SHERWOOD U 14 SUNDAY 21ST APRIL

Sherwood 7.11.53 def Coorparoo 5.6.36

Sherwood hosted Coorparoo for the Round 2 clash at Chelmer and our boys were pumped to clip the Magpies’ wings. However, Sherwood were too strong on the day, with too many running players creating uncontested options and better use of the ball.

Will Sullivan started us off well with a well timed banana kick to open proceedings. That was the highlight of our first quarter as our subsequent scoring opportunities were limited, due to some attacking Sherwood play within our forward 50 and our lapses in allowing loose Sherwood players to run freely.

Encouraging signs from new players Lachie Child, Semisi Tupou, Kalani Armstrong and Tristan Blee, all displaying attacking qualities and flair when they got hold of the ball. The Umpires were red hot on in the back early on and a couple of our boys were unlucky to get pinged for strong tackling. Rani Robin and Matt Porter took some strong overhead marks and Jared Pascoe and Lachie Cowley were typically strong with their 2nd efforts for the ball. Despite the majority of centre clearances and inside 50’s, we were rusty with our use of the ball and at the first break we went off with Sherwood 2.3.15 to Coorparoo 1.1.7.

Strong defensive work was evident with the start of the 2nd quarter with Max Harding and Jordan Little putting their bodies on the line. Jock Lucas and Robert Ridgeway attacked the ball with intent and were well supported by Joel Boudin and Joel Sherry in driving the Sherrin inside our 50. Kalani Armstrong was putting his body on the line and effecting nice handballs to get the ball moving forward. Lachie Cowley was taking strong overhead marks and just prior to the major break, Semisi Tupou having followed play upfield, goals from just inside 50 with a beautiful drop punt. Despite numerous inside 50 opportunities, at half time, Sherwood 3.5.23 lead Coorparoo 2.2.14.

With the Coach’s instructions to “man up” still ringing in their eyes, our boys do so as instructed and again pepper the Sherwood defence. Great combinations from Lachie Child, Semisi Tupou and Tristan Blee, result in shots at goal just fading for Matt Porter and Semisi Tupou. Tristan Blee is in everything today and is unlucky with his shot from just inside 50, which fades at the death for a point. Sherwood continue to have a number of loose men in defence and in the 3rd quarter, having used the ball more efficiently, lead 5.6.36 to Coorparoo 3.6.24.

Henry Shanks starts the 4th quarter in style with committed tack- ling, but Sherwood capitalise with a number of loose players inside their 50, with a couple of quick goals. Max Harding combines well with Semisi Tupou and Will Sullivan and Lachie McClare continues his strong overhead marking. Lachie Cowley delivers a nice pill to the square and scrambling second efforts result in Hudson Schafer snapping truly for a major. Jordan Little passes to Jack Gilhooley who delivers a deft handball on the wing to Tristan Blee who fires a quick pass to Matt Porter and the Roos are away. Matt Porter finds a leading Joel Sherry in the square and Joel makes no mistake. At the siren, Sherwood 7.11.53 to Coorparoo 5.6.36. In a rusty performance, the Roos show patches of quality attacking footy and will only improve as the season progresses.
