Build Olneyville Principal Partners I-2 Build Olneyville Plan APTE CH R I Executive Summary Build Olneyville Plan (BOP), funded by a 2010 Choice Neighborhoods planning grant and locally leveraged resources, continues the ongoing revitalization effort in the Olneyville neighborhood on the west side of the City of Providence. Once a bustling industrial community supported by residential structures for workers and a commercial center in Olneyville Square, Olneyville today is slowly but surely recovering from decades of neglect and disinvestment. Based on community and stakeholder input, Build Olneyville builds off earlier plans and initiatives Table I-1. Key Goals for the Build Olneyville Plan to guide the holistic transformation of this key Table I-2. Evans 16049 and 17347 describe editions of 1778 and 1781, and Alden 756 concludes that these descriptions were by conjecture from the 1775 edition on the assumption that a catalogue was issued every three years, and that no such catalogues were actually printed in those years.

    Francis Wayland A Neglected Pioneer of Higher Education BY WILLIAM G. ROELKER RANCIS WAYLAND, fourth President of Brown F University, who occupied the office for twenty-eight years, from 1827 to 1855, was the best known and probably the foremost educator of his time. The history of education is little studied, even by educators themselves, so it is natural that he has been overlooked in recent years. Dr. Charles F. Thwing, a noted historian of education, wrote that among the few college presidents of the early 19th century who might be described as educators was "Wayland of Brown."1 Some historians have considered the establish- ment of tax-supported free public schools the most progres- sive step in mid-i9th century social history and they have directed their attention to Horace Mann and Henry Barn- ard for their work in the public schools of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, to the neglect of men like Wayland who were active in every field of education. He would not have been so outstanding had he not been, in the sense in which Emerson used the expression, a representative man who is "not only representative, but participant.
