Bios of Board Members (2013-2014)

Olga Assaly

Olga is the Past Chair of the LCC Parent Association, following a decade of outstanding volunteer service for the School. She is presently Co- Chair of the Leadership Development Council part of the Advancement Committee In 1999, she became a volunteer at the LCC Store and took over as Chair from 2000 to 2007 and contributed to record sums for the LCC Bursary Fund. Olga has also been actively involved in the Staff Appreciation event as well as LCC’s Grandparents’ Day. After holding various administrative, buying and supervisor positions for S. Rossy Inc., Olga got more involve as a buyer at the transformation of Rossy to . She and her husband Leonard were Co-Chairs of the LCC Capital Campaign. Olga was the Chair of our very successful “LCC Roar Fundraising Gala” that raised close to $500,000. In the spring of 2006, after being touched by breast cancer, Olga became involved in the “Weekend to End Breast Cancer”. She formed a team known as “Olga’s Butterflies” and has raised a phenomenal amount of $362.833 to date for this special cause. Olga is the author of her first book “The Joy of Cancer”, A journey of self-discovery, she also appeared on Tedx Talk in Vegas of January 2012. She also gives inspirational speech in varies venue, her latest one, Week end-to-end women’s cancer 2013 as well as being a fundraiser. Olga and her husband Leonard have 3 children – Andrew ‘06, Laurie ‘08 and Jeremy ‘14.

Randy Aziz ʹ77

Randy is Vice President and co-founder of Creations Cindy Ann Inc., a ladies undergarment importer and manufacturer, established in 1985. He is a member of numerous committees at The Royal Golf Club, is past club champion, and is a past Chair of the Board of Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church. He graduated from the University of Western in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics and is an alumnus of LCC – class of 1977. Randy and his wife Lynn (former Chair of the LCC Parents’ Association) have three children, David ‘07 and Pre-U ‘08, Laura ‘09 and Jacqueline ’12.

Philip Belec ʹ77

Philip is the President and Founder of Ben-Jac Capital Inc., a financial services firm specializing in helping successful business owners plan for the eventual transition and succession of their business. Previously, he spent five years with Mobius International in the film production and distribution business. Philip is a graduate of Lower Canada College and The University of Western Ontario. He is a past-president of the LCC Alumni Association, a member of the LCC Corporation and a Director of the LCC Foundation. Philip has extensive not-for-profit experience including The Centre (Board member), Sarah Cook Fund (Board Member), Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation (ABC Ball Committee Member), Cedar’s Cancer Institute (Committee Member), Mount Bruno Country Club (Committee Member), Montreal Rackets Club (Board Member), Conference for Advanced Life Underwriters – CALU -(Board Member) and member of the LCC Capital Campaign Committee. Philip is married to Anna and they have two children who are enrolled at LCC – Ben ‘10 and P.J. ‘12.

Anne-Marie Boucher

Anne-Marie Boucher is a lawyer who graduated in 1989 from University of Montreal (LLB) and subsequently obtained a Masters in Tax from University of Sherbrooke. She practiced tax, commercial and corporate law at BCF, a Montreal law firm she co-founded, for nearly 11 years before she became director of Training and Education at the Tax Association, where she also chaired the Continuing Education Committee for 10 years. At the same time, she also taught tax and estate planning at the Masters in Tax programs of University of Sherbrooke and L'Ecole des HEC, as well as the Notarial Studies program of the University of Montreal. Between 2001-2003, Anne-Marie was asked to join a group of elite Canadian tax specialists, including both Deputy Ministers of Revenue of Quebec and Canada, to advise and assist the Brazilian government on its tax reform. In 2005 Anne-Marie was elected counselor of the City of Hampstead and was entrusted with the finance portfolio before moving to Europe with her family for nearly three years. She recently re-joined BCF as counsel in the fields of estate planning, wealth management and corporate governance. For several years she was a frequent speaker at tax conferences on estate planning matters and has authored a number of articles in that field. In addition to the LCC Board of Governors, she also serves as member of the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation board, the Weizmann Institute of science national board and is involved with a number of other charities in Canada, Europe and Israel. She is married to Mitch Garber, and they have two sons, Dylan 12’ and Ryan 17’

Donna Doherty Fraser

Donna graduated from Queen’s University in 1982 with a B.A. Honours in Economics. She spent the next few years living in Toronto and working in the securities industry. In 1986, Donna moved back to Montreal where she worked as a corporate foreign exchange dealer for the Royal Bank of Canada. In 1997, Donna completed an MBA and has since worked part time for Fraser Furniture. Other activities include involvement in a number of sports, cultural activities and volunteer work. Donna has been involved in the school as Chair of the LCC Parents Association from 2006-2008. LCC board commitments include being a past member of the Communications committee, current member of Long Range Planning and Leadership Development and current chair of the Advancement committee. Donna and her husband Ross have 3 sons - Sean ‘07, Jordan ‘08, and Kevin ‘12.

Geoffrey Heward ʹ79

Geoffrey Heward (’79) is a director and Senior Vice President of Heward Investment Management, a firm that has been providing client-focused portfolio management services since 1981. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario in 1984, Geoffrey entered the brokerage business with investment bank Cazenove & Co. in London and after 4 years in England, he returned to Canada to join Merrill Lynch in Toronto. Geoff’s career includes being a Director of Scotia Capital Markets and Vice President at Desjardins Securities in their Capital Markets division. In 2007 having lived away from Montreal for more than 25 years, Geoff and his family moved to Montreal where he joined the family business. Geoff’s family has an extensive history with LCC that started with his great uncle Chilion Graves Heward (1903 St John’s School), grandfather Brian Heward (1916), father Chilion (’49), brother James (’77) and many cousins including Denys Heward (’64). Geoff and his wife Joanne have two children, Charlotte and Brian continuing the family’s tradition at LCC in the junior school in “Heward House”. Geoff is an active volunteer in the community and is a board member of the Fondation Centre Action de Montreal in LaSalle and an ongoing member of the Finance Committee at the school. Geoff plays competitive squash and tennis and is an avid skier.

Doug Lewin ʹ87

Doug is the Executive Vice president of Optimal Payments, a London Stock Exchange listed credit card and check processing company. Prior to joining Optimal, Doug was the Vice President of Caesars Interactive Entertainment, a Montreal based subsidiary of Caesars Entertainment Inc., the world’s largest gaming company. A 1987 graduate of LCC, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Babson College where he was a member of the school’s 1992 NCAA Frozen Four hockey team. Doug is a founding member and past chairman of Kids for Kids, a local charity that raises money for Montreal based children in need. He also sits on the board of the Sarah Cook Foundation. At LCC, Doug is a member of the Corporation and has served on the school’s Alumni Association Committee from 2005-present and was a member of the school's Capital Campaign Committee. Janice Naymark

Janice Naymark is a native Montrealer who graduated from McGill University’s Faculty of Law in 1986 with both her B.C.L. and LL.B degrees. She was called to the Quebec bar in 1987 and has been practicing with the firm of Spiegel Sohmer Inc. since 1987. As a senior partner in the commercial/corporate law group at Spiegel Sohmer Inc. until 2008, Janice’s practice focused on acquisitions and sales of businesses. She also acted as an advisor to both individual directors and boards of directors of numerous corporations, both public and private. After a four year absence to spend more time with her family, Janice took on the role of Director of Corporate Services at Spiegel Sohmer Inc. Currently serving in her eighth year on the Board of Governors at LCC, Janice has sat on the LCC Government Relations Committee, the Advancement Committee, the Facilities Committee and the Governance Committee, and has chaired the Long-Range Planning Committee for the past four years. She is married to Stephen Hamilton (’78) and they have three children, Andrew ‘13, Michael ‘16 and William ‘19.

Amin Noorani ’83

Amin Noorani is an Executive Recruiter and recruits primarily for the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). He is involved in the recruiting of mid-management and senior level professionals with a focus on candidates from North America. He has a broad working experience, having worked with some of Canada's and the US's most well- respected companies including Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, Abitibi Consolidated, GE Capital and CAE. Amin is a graduate of Lower Canada College. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting/MIS and his Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy, from McGill University. He received his Chartered Accountancy Designation in 1993. Amin is a member in good standing of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec. Amin enjoys volunteering and giving back to the community. He participates annually in the World Partnership Walk held in conjunction with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. He was one of the 2004 Recipients of the MS Leadership Award from the Canadian Society of Multiple Sclerosis – Quebec Division. He is a member of a private club, the University Club of Montreal, and he is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Marianopolis Millennium Foundation. At LCC, Amin is a member of the Corporation and has served as a past/ongoing member of the Finance Committee, the Advancement Committee and as a member of the Alumni Executive. He began his three-year term in the Fall of 2011 as President of the LCC Alumni Association and is a member of the Board of Governors for a term ending in 2014.

Adam Shine ‘84

Adam Shine is a Managing Director within the Research Department of National Bank Financial where he is also Head of Montreal Research. He has covered Communications & Media stocks for the past 15 years, the last 11 at National Bank Financial during most of which time he has been ranked the #1 Communications & Media Analyst in Canada. For the past three years, he has also covered the Telecom & Cable sector. Adam has worked in the investment industry for nearly 20 years and in equity research for more than 17 years, during which time he has interacted extensively with executive teams and boards of directors. In addition to earning his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1998, he followed-up his Bachelor of Commerce degree in marketing and accounting in 1989 with an MBA in International Business from McGill University and the Stockholm School of Economics in 1992. Adam has been involved with a number of charitable causes and industry associations in both Montreal and Toronto. Adam is married to Brigitte Roy and they have three children - Zachary '15, Abigail '17, and Gabrielle '24.

Marc P. Tellier

Marc P. Tellier is formerly the President and Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Media where he evolved the Company from a single-product publisher in Ontario and Quebec to become a national, diversified digital marketing solutions company.

As head of Yellow Media, Mr. Tellier completed the most important management leveraged buyout in Canadian history in 2002 in collaboration with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) and Ontario Teachers' Merchant Bank. He also completed the largest-ever initial public offering in the income trust sector in Canada in 2003. In 2005, he led the $2.55B acquisition of Advertising Directory Solutions Holdings Inc. in Western Canada, creating a national platform for directories that was further strengthened with several other acquisitions.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Tellier was an officer of Bell Canada and served as Senior Vice President - Partnership Development. He was responsible for the launch of the first telco commercial high-speed Internet service in North America. He also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sympatico-Lycos.

Marc P. Tellier began his career at Bell Canada in 1990 after graduating from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. In 2000, Mr. Tellier was named one of Canada's Top Forty under Forty(tm). Mr. Tellier was previously a Board member of the National Bank of Canada and the Local Search Association. Marc has been involved in a variety of philanthropic and not for profit causes in Montreal including as a Board member of Ste-Justine Hospital Foundation and Co-Chair of the Daffodil Ball. He is also a member of Young Presidents Organization.

Adam Turner ’87 (Chairman)

Adam is the President of Divco Limited, a Montreal based construction firm specializing in the construction of commercial, institutional and industrial buildings in Quebec and Eastern Canada. Prior to joining Divco, Adam was Vice-President at Adatif International, a family investment and merchant-banking firm. At Adatif, Adam lead efforts in real estate, as well as international sales in the medical and industrial gas sectors. Adam has served as a member at the Board of the SAQ (Société des Alcools du Québec) as Chairman of the Human Resource Committee and sat on the Audit Committee. Adam is a graduate of Lower Canada College and of the University of Western Ontario where he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts (Political Science and French). Adam has been involved in a variety of philanthropic and not for profit causes in Montreal including the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, was a founding member of Kids for Kids, and sat on the Board of YEO (Young Entrepreneurs Organization), YPO (Young Presidents Organization) and LOVE (Leave Out ViolencE). At LCC, Adam is a member of Corporation and has previously served as President of LCC’s Alumni Association and as a member of the Board of Governors since 2002. He is also Chair of Facilities from 2008 - 2013. He is married to Catherine Melling and they are the proud parents of Andrew ‘17, William ‘18 as well as Carlye and Matthew ’25.

Christopher Shannon, Pre-U ʹ76 (Headmaster)

Christopher Shannon has had a distinguished career in education. He joined LCC as Headmaster in 2005. Since then he has overseen the implementation of a new strategic plan, the school’s most successful fund-raising initiative, and the construction of a state- of-the art arena-athletic complex. Under his leadership, LCC has also developed a clear vision for campus and program development. This includes a more global orientation and full member into the Round Square international association of schools. Prior to coming to LCC Mr. Shannon served for six years as Headmaster at Stanstead College in Québec’s Eastern Townships. His accomplishments there were numerous and included building strong modern programmes and significant renewal of campus facilities. Stanstead’s student enrolment also grew significantly and the school operated on a sound financial footing every year. Prior to leading Stanstead, Chris Shannon spent 14 productive years at Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario, where his last position was Director of Academics. A fluently bilingual Montrealer, Chris Shannon graduated from Selwyn House School in 1975 and from Grade 12 at LCC in 1976, making him the first alumnus to head Lower Canada College. He pursued his education at Queen’s (B.A.), Institut Universitaire de Hautes Études Internationales – University of Geneva (Masters in History and Politics) and Brock University in Ontario (Masters in Educational Administration). Chris and his wife Hilary have two university-aged children – Leah Pre-U ’06 and Matthew ‘07

Priscilla Whitehead

Priscilla is the current Chair of the LCC Parents’ Association (LCCPA), after having served as Vice Chair for many years. She has volunteered as an organizing member of numerous LCC events including the past three Galas, as well as Staff Appreciations, LCC Book Fairs, Family BBQs, Grade 6 Grad, among others, and is a long-standing Class Parent Rep and New Family Mentor. Priscilla is a graduate of Georgetown University and earned her law degree from Georgetown Univ. Law Center. She is admitted to practice in New York, Washington, D.C. and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. After clerking for a US Federal District Court Judge, Priscilla practiced law in Puerto Rico handling both litigation and regulatory matters, primarily for multi-national entities. She returned to Washington D.C., and was thereafter elected as a partner at Swidler Berlin Shereff Friedman, now merged into Bingham McCutchen, handling environmental and telecommunications regulatory matters, as well as advising clients’ entry into international markets. Priscilla grew up in the US and is fluent in Spanish. Since moving to Montreal, Priscilla has focused her energy on her children, and on numerous volunteer roles with LCC, her children’s sports teams, and Ballet Ouest de Montreal. She and her husband Drazen Gardilcic reside in Pointe Claire and have four children at LCC, Alexandra ’16, Danova ‘16, Katina ’16 and Nikolas ’19.
