It is a gift of ’s cultural and civilizational heritage to the world. It is a holistic approach to health that promotes the harmonious collaboration of the human beings’ three components: body, mind and spirit.

Artistes/ Presentation of the Month

Dilshad Khan – Sarangi Dilshad Khan belongs to the Sikar Gharana school of music which has given several stalwarts to Indian classical music. He is the ninth generation to take up Sarangi. His great grandfather Ustad Azim Khan sahab was a court musician at Sikar . He began his training at the age of 6 in music from his grandfather Ustad Gulab Khan Sahab who was a great sarangi player and vocalist of his time and from his father Ustad Nasir Khan Sahab who is a great sitar player. Later, he started learning Sarangi from his uncle Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab, who is world’s most renowned Sarangi player and Vocalist. Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab has given a new dimension to the Sarangi and he has played the key role in popularizing this ancient classical instrument of India. Dilshad Khan has given his first performance at the age of 10 at Youth Festival in . He is known today for his excellent command on this difficult instrument, already remarkably imbibed almost his great uncle’s entire repertoire with a similar command and mastery on the Sarangi. He had the honour to share the stage with legends like Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab, Ustad , Trilok Gurtu, Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Pt. Ajay Chakarborty, Sivamani, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Louis Banks, Abida Parveen, Hariharan, Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz, , Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Ustad Fazal Qureshi and many more. He has played sarangi for the album Global Drum Project which won the Prestigious Grammy Award.

Imran Khan - Sitar Imran Khan belongs to the famous lineage of the Sikar Gharana (school of music) that has given many stalwarts to Indian classical music. He started his training in Sitar from the age of 6-7 years under his grandfather Ustad Gulab Khan Sahab, who is both acknowledged Sarangi player and vocalist of his time , and from his father Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan Sahab, who is also famous Sitar Player and ‘A’ grade staff artiste at All India Radio Jodhpur in Rajasthan. He has also taken training from his uncle, world famous Sarangi player & vocalist Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab who was part of and Pandit ’s group “Dark Horse” and Ustad Nasir Khan Sahab who is also a Sitar Player. He gave his first solo performance at the age of 12 in youth festival of All India Radio, and since then he has been taking his music to concerts and festivals all over India and abroad. He got first position in the competition organized by Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy and got scholarship for two years. He has been fortunate to share stage with his uncle late Ustad Sultan Khan and he toured with him

for 22 concerts in different cities of India. He was honored to perform with artiste like Ustad Rashid Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, gazal maestro Talat Aziz, Richa Sharma, Madhushree Bhattacharya and some international artistes. With years of hard work, thoughtful creative analysis and dedication, he has developed a unique style that is distinguished for its fine sense of sur and laya (melody and rhythm).

Heiko Dijker Heiko Dijker is an based tabla player whose playing is marked by enthusiasm and energy, depth of knowledge and rhythmic poetry. He left Holland at a young age to find true soulfulness in music and life. Hitch-hiking around the world on his own, Heiko was drawn into classical Indian music and the beauty of India. After years of traditional training with Shri Bhaswaraj Bhendigeri in India, living in a small clay hut and doing saintly practice in the Himalaya, he continued to learn with grandmaster Faiyaz Khan in the Guru-Shisya (master-disciple) system. For 10 years, he was totally absorbed in his Sadhana, practicing and listening only classical Indian acoustic music. Currently, Heiko has joined his traditional skills with composing, and has produced several albums. Heiko has recorded with artistes like Shankar Mahadevan, Saskia Laroo and Ravichandra Kulur for his albums. Recently in India, Heiko was given the title ‘Global Ambassador of classical Indian music.’ Holding a Masters-degree in classical Tabla of the Rotterdam Conservatory, Heiko has been working with great Indian classical and innovative musicians and dancers. Just to name a few: Shankar Mahadevan, Ravichandra Kullur, Meeta Pandit (Indian vocal), Pandit Birju Maharaj (the legendary Kathak dancer), Ustad Fariddudin Dagar, Bahauddin Dagar (Roudra Veena), Amine and Hamza M'raihi(Tunisian classical music), Kailash Ensemble, Melissa Etheridge, Praful, Het Nieuw Ensemble (contemporary western), Scapino Ballet, The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, composer Jacob ter Veldhuis, Lenneke van Staalen, and many more. Next to enjoying his performances, he has been an accompanist of great masters like Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia() and Pandit Buddhadhitya Mukherjee (Sitar) at the Rotterdam Conservatory, is a teacher at the SKVR music school in Rotterdam and The Gandhi Centre in Den Haag and has given lecture-demonstrations/workshops for conservatories and institutes all over the world.

The Gandhi Centre is easily reached by bus # 22 direction DUINDORP. The name of the stop is NIEBOERWEG. When you get out of the bus the Gandhi Centre is on the right hand side within about 50 meters. The name of the stop is THOLENSESTRAAT (at the bend in NIEBOERWEG), which is one stop before the terminus DUINDORP. When you get out of the tram you take the long road alongside the dunes (Nieboerweg) in the direction of Scheveningen Harbour. Almost at the end of the road there is a church. Directly past the church there is another church across the street on the right hand side within about 50 meters. The Gandhi Centre is situated in a former church building. Tram # 12 starts opposite the train station HOLLAND SPOOR in The Hague and drives alongside the open market and crosses Indiagate (Paul Krugerlaan and surroundings).
