The Gandhi Centre was set up on 2nd October, 2011 with primary objective of establishing, reviving and strengthening the cultural relations between and Netherlands. The ICCR has set up such 35 Indian cultural centres in different parts of the world. The objective of the Gandhi Centre is to promote awareness of India's composite cultural heritage in The Netherlands. The activities of the cultural centre include showcasing various art forms of India such as dance, drama, music, films and free classes for the public and organising lectures, talks, panel discussions and seminars on subjects related to India. The Gandhi cultural centre functions under the Embassy of India and is established by the ICCR.

Bansuri Concert by Bhaskar Das & Tabla by Heiko Dijker

The Gandhi Centre,Embassy of India,The Hague cordially invites you to a Bansuri Concert by Bhaskar Das and Tabla by Heiko Dijker.

Bhaskar is one of the finest Bansuri players of the youngest generation of Indian musicians. Having grown up in an atmosphere of music – his father, Pandit Gopal Das is one of the pioneers of Indian classical music on the clarinet – Bhaskar’s journey in the world of music started at the age of three, his father being his first guru. At the age of eight, Bhaskar performed for the first time at the Prayag Sangeet Samiti’s conference in Allahabad and until date, he has performed extensively in India and abroad, both as a soloist and as part of a group.

An ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) empanelled artist, "A" grade artist by & Doordarshan (national TV & Radio channels), Bhaskar has also received multiple awards - “Young Talent” Award by Allahabad Museum, Sangeet Natak Academy Music Competition, Sangeet Samiti Music Competition, Sahara International Music Competition, etc.

Heiko Dijker is an Amsterdam based Tabla player whose playing is marked by enthusiasm and energy, depth of knowledge and rhythmic poetry. After years of traditional training with Shri Bhaswaraj Bhendigeri in India & continued to learn with grandmaster Faiyaz Khan in the Guru- Shisya (Master Disciple) system. Currently Heiko has joined his traditional skills with composing, and has produced several albums. Heiko has recorded with artists like , Saskia Laroo and Ravichandra Kulur for his albums.

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to” A Quiz on Gandhi “as part of the celebrations of the 150th Birth Anniversary of .

A video on Gandhi would be played before the commencement of the Quiz. The Quiz would be hosted by International Quiz Master, Phanindra Ivatury.

Tabla Concert by Salim Hasan

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to a Tabla Concert by Salim Hasan.

Salim Hasan belongs to a family of great master of Tabla Ustad Hidayat Khan. He is disciple of Ustad Hidayat Khan Sahab and he has learned playing tabla since 9 yrs old. Has travelled in different parts of the world and has performed with many known artist like Afroz Bano , Alpana Sen Gupta, Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan, Ranajit Sen Gupta and many others. He has shown his versatility by playing tabla and percussions with famous Bollywood bands in India and performed with many known Celebrities Sri Ram Iyer, Swaroop Khan, Jasim Sharma, Navraj Hans and other and had recorded many songs for Bollywood industry as well. Has performed for Yash raj productions in the reality show with A.R.Rehman.

Bharatanatyam Performance by Neha Dicholkar

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India, The Hague cordially invites you to a Bharatanatyam Performance by Neha Dicholkar.

Neha Dicholkar is from Goa India living in Cologne, Germany. She is a trained classical Bharatanatyam artist, completed her arangetram and Visharad in Bharatanatyam from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya, .

She has performed at the IndraDhanush event organized by Indian embassy Frankfurt in Eschborn Germany, May 2019 and performed at the Asha foundation charity show organized in collaboration with Indian embassy of Frankfurt in July 2018. She has performed the Krishnam madhuram margam at the Tagore Centre.

Odissi Performance by Pawan Rajwar & Kishori Sakhi

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India,The Hague cordially invites you to a Odissi Performance by Pawan Rajwar and Kishori Sakhi.

Pawan Rajwar is a disciple of Guru Pratap Narayan and Guruma Kunjalata Mishra. He has Completed Visharad Purna (BA) and Sangeet Alankar (MA) in Odissi Dance from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai. His achievements include Yuva Pratibha in Odissi Dance, Visharad in Odissi & Odissa Pratibha title. He is a Founder & Teacher at Nrityanra International Academy for Odissi Dance Mayapur.

Kishori started to learn dance from the age of seven and enrolled for Odissi dance at Sri Venunad Kala Kendra, Vrindavan.Her teachers are Guru Sri Pratap Narayan and Guruma Srimati Kunjalata Mishra. She is a full-time dancer and experienced in teaching for many years to beginners and advanced students. Her performances include at dance festivals: Jhansi Mahotsav organized by Department of Culture (Uttar Pradesh), International Odissi Festival Guinessbook Record (Bhuwaneshwar), Odissi International Festival (Bhuwaneshwar), Korzo India Dance festival (the Netherlands) etc.

Tabla & Vocal Concert by Ujjal Roy & Bhaswati Mittra & Kathak Performance by Anurekha Ghosh

The Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India,The Hague cordially invites you to a Tabla Concert by Ujjal Roy & Bhaswati Mittra and Kathak Performance by Anurekha Ghosh.

Ujjal Roy is a versatile artist of Hindustan classical music of the present generation. His instinct of playing Tabla was initiated in very early stage of his childhood by Sri Kishore Bhandari (Benaras gharana). Ujjal gave his first public performance at the age 7 years. He is a M.Mus with GOLD MEDAL & National scholar and A- GRADE from A.I.R. He has given performance throughout the country and also abroad.

Anurekha Ghosh is one of the finest internationally acclaimed award-winning Indian Classical Kathak dancers. Her technique and style are a combination of “tradition and modernity”. She has been trained in classical Kathak dance, specializing in the Lucknow Gharana since the age of 4 ½ years under the guidance of Smt. Meera Majumdar and Smt. Mousumi Sen in Calcutta, India. She learnt the art of Kalaripayattu, a South Indian Martial Arts at CVN Kalari, Kerala under Guruakkal C V Satyanarayanan. She has taken training in Western Contemporary Dance, Ballet and Yoga in UK.

Sarod Concert 01st June 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a Sarod Concert by Mayukh Gangopadyaya and Tabla by Souvik Datta. Mayukh brought the elegance of Sarode very

beautifully well supported and

accompanied by Souvik. They kept the audience mesmerized throughout their performance. Prof. Nirmala Sharma, Director (TGC) felicitated the artists.

Kathak & Bharatanatyam Performance 08th June 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized

a Kathak performance by Tejaswini Sathe & Group and Bharatanatyam by Vaishnavi Vaidyanathan. Tejaswini

Sathe and three of her disciples did a magnificent performance with their classic Kathak swirls & sharp dance movements and expressions. Vaishanavi

performed on Krishna margam and

performed the classical Yashoda & Krishna’s tale. The audience were thoroughly entertained. Prof. Nirmala Sharma,

Director ((TGC) felicitated the artists.

Dhrupad Vocal Concert 12th June 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a Dhrupad Vocal Concert by Sumeet Anand and Pakhawaj by Sandip Banerjee and Ritika on the

Tanpura.Sumeet Anand ‘s brilliant

performance rhythmically was well supported by Sandip Banerjee. For most of the audience Dhrupad Vocal was a first-time musical experience and they

applauded it. Prof. Nirmala Sharma, Director (TGC) felicitated the artists.

Veena Concert 22nd June 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a Veena Concert by Dr. RJ Rajkumar. Dr. RJ Rajkumar played the veena gracefully to the most popular classical Carnatic songs. The highlight of the

concert was when he played the Dutch National Anthem on his veena which was lauded by the audience. Prof. Nirmala Sharma, Director, The Gandhi Centre felicitated Dr. RJ Rajkumar.

Sarangi Concert

29th June 2019

The Gandhi Centre organized a Concert by Sabir Sultan Khan & Tabla by Heiko Dijker. Sabir Khan enthralled the audience with his maestro’s stroke of music ably

accompanied by Heiko. It was a full packed house. The best part of Sabir Khan’s performance was a piece that he paid tribute in memory of his late mother.

Regular Classes

The Gandhi Centre organizes regular classes in: • Yoga • Hindi Language • Tabla (Indian percussion instrument) These classes are open to each and every one at no cost. The classes are designed to cater to all age groups as well as from beginners to advanced.

Yoga Classes Yoga is a science and art of healthy living with origins in ancient India. It is a stress management therapy and its practice increase immunity and contributes to overall physical and mental being. The Yoga Teacher, Mr. Amit Khanna is a Yoga Therapist with 9 years of experience in Yoga. He is also a Physiotherapist. He deals with various medical conditions and life style disorders and suggests exercises to deal with them.

Hindi Language Classes Hindi is the national language of India with origins in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. It is widely used in both India and Suriname. Dr. Kanta Rani is an enthusiastic teacher in Hindi language. She has a Masters in Hindi, PhD in education and over 25 years of teaching experience. She has spent several years in teaching Hindi to non-Hindi speakers. She has also taught in ICC Suriname and her publications include three textbooks and one Hindi conversation book.

Tabla Classes

Internationally acclaimed Tabla teacher Mr. Heiko Dijker of Dutch origin has been trained under Ustad Faiyaz Khan, the famous Tabla player of India. Along with his public performances, he also teaches in Universities. He teaches Tabla at the Gandhi Centre. The students love him because of his personal attention to every student.
