They even dropped to the ground & did push-ups with him on live TV, only adding to the fun environment of the day. To Aaron Miller & Nicole Hallett - our Mascots, thankyou so much for handing out colouring kits at the Royal Children Hospital. To the kids.... a big thankyou. You all chipped in helping wherever you could- be it face painting, ticket writing, hairspray colouring or collecting donations - you were all wonderful. Lastly a huge thankyou to the parents and volunteers who assisted the PR Committee in running the Interactive site. Without your dedication & time we would not be able to participate in these types of events. Not to be reproduced 1/10 Asics Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) Victoria, Victoria, Victoria These were the winners announced on Sunday at ALAC. All of our athletes prepared themselves to the best of their ability and were a credit to themselves and their State. The journey began many weeks ago, when the selectors began looking at athletes and how they were performing. The State Championships were critical in making selections to the State Squad. Then began the process of selecting the State Team. Training sessions were held over 4 weeks and on the final week the team were presented with their uniforms and final details. On Friday 24 April all team members made their way to Melbourne Airport for their trip to Adelaide. Many were excited, with a few feeling anxious and nervous. On arrival in Adelaide, the Civic Reception was first on the agenda, where the athletes got to meet other athletes, exchange badges and also show their skills in team chants. I’m sure Victoria was the loudest. Saturday we woke to the worst weather ever. I’m sure our trip to the top of Mt Lofty was one the athletes will never forget (they wouldn’t even get out of the buses). We made our way to the city to watch part of the Anzac parade and look around before heading back to the rooms to prepare for our Track Familiarisation at Santos Stadium. Other states did what they could in the rain, with the weather breaking for us and allowing us to get a feel of the track. The night before competition was quiet with dinner in and nails painted, bags packed and a final relaxation session before bed. On Sunday competition had arrived. Victoria was prepared and the weather was in our favour. We started the day well with medals coming in thick and fast. PB’s were aplenty along with placegetters achieving fantastic results. The day was drawing to an end and as normal the relays created an excitement amongst the crowd. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one to lose my voice by the end of the day. The relays were over and we only had the results to be announced. The U15’s had their scores from the multi announced first, with our 4 athletes performing at a very high standard. This helped us to win the Multi Trophy. As the countdown was announced and NSW were announced 2 nd , the Victorians erupted, knowing they had won. It was a fantastic result all round and one that the athletes will not forget as they become part of Victorian Little Athletics History. ALAC was fantastic to be involved in and I look forward to many more.
