1 March 2012 Regional Express Holdings Ltd (Rex) today announced the appointment of Eugene Lee as the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Pel-Air Aviation Pty Ltd (Pel-Air), a wholly owned subsidiary of Rex. Eugene Lee replaces Danny Foster who has stepped down as COO. Eugene Lee, current Chief of Staff of Pel-Air, has had over 15 years of experience in the airline industry covering areas of management, strategic planning, management accounting, sales and marketing and customer service. He has spent a number of years working in the USA, UK and various countries in South East Asia where he held positions including Vice President for Eastern USA and South America for Singapore Airlines. John Sharp, Chairman of Pel-Air and Deputy Chairman of Rex said, “we thank Danny for his services especially for guiding Pel-Air through a significant restructuring of the Company resulting in Pel-Air’s outstanding financial performance in the first half of FY12.” Rex also announced that Garry Filmer, currently Rex General Manager Engineering, has taken on the role of Chief Operating Officer standing in for Christopher Hine, who is on long service leave. Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of more than 40 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1,300 weekly flights to 35 destinations throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo- based regional airline Air Link, as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy. REGULATION OF AIR TRANSPORT IN NSW PUBLIC CONSULTATION COMMENTS BY REGIONAL EXPRESS Regional Express Holdings Limited (Rex) is the listed entity which owns two regional airlines operating intra New South Wales scheduled services – Regional Express (Rex) and Air Link. It also has a charter and freight subsidiary Pel – Air Aviation which operates contracted air freight services to regional centres as well as passenger and freight charter services. Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline and the largest regional airline operating services intra New South Wales. Rex operates thirteen Saab 340 aircraft between Sydney and fifteen regional centres on some 550 flights weekly. Air Link operates two Beech B1900D, five Piper Chieftain and three Cessna 310R aircraft on services linking Sydney with eight regional communities some via a hub in Dubbo. In New South Wales, Rex operates services on four competitive, unregulated routes as well as being the licensed sole operator on eleven routes. Air Link operates on one competitive unregulated route and is the licensed sole operator on seven intrastate routes. The comments in this response cover the views of both Rex and Air Link. Rex has been very successful in developing all of the route markets on its network achieving substantial passenger growth on the back of a significant reduction in average fares. The average fare on the Rex network today is 40 percent below that which applied four years ago. Even adding in the fuel surcharge necessary to alleviate the impact of spiralling fuel prices (which only recently reduced by $3.00 to $24.00 per sector) Rex’s average fares are 20 percent below the levels which applied four years ago.

Regional Express Group Response to Airservices Pricing Proposal 2016-2021 October 2015 INTRODUCTION The Rex Group welcomes the opportunity to provide a response to Airservices Draft Pricing Proposal 2016-2021. The Rex Group comprises Regional Express , air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo-based regional airline Air Link , as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy . Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of more than 40 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1,400 weekly flights to 54 destinations throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland. Rex was formed in 2002 out of the collapse of the Ansett group, which included the regional operators Hazelton and Kendell Airlines, in response to concerns about the economic impact on regional communities dependent on regular public transport air services previously provided by Hazelton and Kendell. Rex operates a typical regional hub and spoke model with extensive services from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide airports and more recently a large network in Queensland where Rex operates a mix of regulated and non-regulated RPT services. The provision of regional air services is not only critical to regional Australia, but it is also critical to Australia’s national interest. Since Rex was formed in 2002, we have witnessed the demise of at least 10 regional airlines which illustrates the fragile nature of this industry. Rex has survived due to its intense focus on efficiency that has driven significant activity level increases over the past 13 years. Importantly, these activity level increases have directly benefited regional communities through affordable fare pricing and increased flight frequency.

Rimmer* Abstract Distance and remoteness have been making a comeback among economists interpreting Australia’s place in the world. Although there are claims by telecommunications theorists that distance is dead, this is not the case in international air transport. As a means of elaborating this proposition, attention is focused on tracing changes in the overseas operations and route network of Qantas (Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd) since its inception in 1920. After discussing Qantas’s origins three issues are explored: how did Qantas reflect Australia’s Imperial connection; how did the nationalization of Qantas reshape the airline’s pri- orities; how has the privatization of Qantas changed the airline’s main concerns? There is an abundance of material on the history and development of Qantas’s international passenger net- work to address these issues. The material ranges from annual reports; company histories; auto- biographies and a biography of co-founder Sir W. H. Fysh (1895−1974); anecdotes from for- mer pilots providing insights into the places used for their ‘slips’ or crew stopovers between flights; paraphernalia such as timetables and posters; the travel diaries of frequent (and infre- quent) flyers; a living memory bank in George A. Roberts (born 1909), who worked for the company between 1936 and 1970 and who now manages the Qantas Historical Collection; and Qantas Virtual Airway providing detailed information for game-players to simulate historic, current and future flights.
