  • Sinclair Broadcast Group Closes on Acquisition of Barrington Stations
Contact: David Amy, EVP & CFO, Sinclair Lucy Rutishauser, VP & Treasurer, Sinclair (410) 568-1500 SINCLAIR BROADCAST GROUP CLOSES ON ACQUISITION OF BARRINGTON STATIONS BALTIMORE (November 25, 2013) -- Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBGI) (the “Company” or “Sinclair”) announced today that it closed on its previously announced acquisition of 18 television stations owned by Barrington Broadcasting Group, LLC (“Barrington”) for $370.0 million and entered into agreements to operate or provide sales services to another six stations. The 24 stations are located in 15 markets and reach 3.4% of the U.S. TV households. The acquisition was funded through cash on hand. As previously discussed, due to FCC ownership conflict rules, Sinclair sold its station in Syracuse, NY, WSYT (FOX), and assigned its local marketing agreement (“LMA”) and purchase option on WNYS (MNT) in Syracuse, NY to Bristlecone Broadcasting. The Company also sold its station in Peoria, IL, WYZZ (FOX) to Cunningham Broadcasting Corporation (“CBC”). In addition, the license assets of three stations were purchased by CBC (WBSF in Flint, MI and WGTU/WGTQ in Traverse City/Cadillac, MI) and the license assets of two stations were purchase by Howard Stirk Holdings (WEYI in Flint, MI and WWMB in Myrtle Beach, SC) to which Sinclair will provide services pursuant to shared services and joint sales agreements. Following its acquisition by Sinclair, WSTM (NBC) in Syracuse, NY, will continue to provide services to WTVH (CBS), which is owned by Granite Broadcasting, and receive services on WHOI in Peoria, IL from Granite Broadcasting. Sinclair has, however, notified Granite Broadcasting that it does not intend to renew these agreements in these two markets when they expire in March of 2017.

  • Technical Summary WZPX-TV Battle Creek, Michigan Channel 21 400
Technical Summary WZPX-TV Battle Creek, Michigan Channel 21 400 kW 278.2 (HAAT) ION Media Battle Creek License, Inc. (“ION”) licensee of television station WZPX-TV, Facility ID 67077, Battle Creek, Michigan (the “Station”) submits this Construction Permit Modification application to allow it to relocate its transmitter from the currently authorized site (FCC LMS File No. 0000034925) to a site that will accommodate post-repack operations. This application is necessary because ION does not have access to its current tower for post-repack operations. Following the Commission’s assignment of post-repack facilities to WZPX-TV, ION was unable to reach accommodation with the tower landlord that would permit the station to continue operating from its current site. This forced ION to identify a new site for the station’s post-repack operations. Before selecting the proposed tower location, ION performed an analysis of available tower sites in the Grand Rapids market. In the immediate vicinity of the current tower site, ION’s market analysis found no acceptable alternatives that would provide equivalent interference-free coverage as compared to the Station’s pre-auction or authorized post-auction facilities. ION has, however, identified an acceptable tower to the west of the current site, one that provides strong coverage at allowable interference levels. The new tower is located approximately 35 kilometers to the west of the current site. Accordingly, the Station’s proposed noise limited service contour (“NLSC”) will shift to the west, creating areas of service gain and loss. Figure 1 shows the loss area and the number of stations predicted to serve the loss areas using the Commission’s standard prediction methodology.

COUGHLIN AND THE UNION PARTY BY FOUR METROPOLITAN DAILY NEWSPAPERS DURING THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN OF 1936: A STUDY by Charles C. Ragains This study is the result of the writer's inter- est in the Reverend Father Charles E. Coughlin, a Roman Catholic priest who was pastor of a parish in Royal Oak, Michigan, and whose oratory attracted national attention and considerable controversy; in the political and social ferment in the United States during the 1930's; and in the American press. The questions that motivated the study were: How did the nation's newspapers react to Coughlin, who is regarded as one of the foremost dema- gogues in American history, at the height of his career? Did the press significantly affect the priest's influence and power one way or the other? How did newspapers in- terpret Coughlin and his actions to their readers? Because of the length of Coughlin's public career (nearly sixteen years) it has been necessary to select a salient event or period on which to concentrate. Charles C. Ragains The period selected is the presidential election campaign of 1936. This span of approximately five and one-half months was chosen for several reasons.

DETROIT'S MILWAUKEE JUNCTION SURVEY HAER MI-416 Milwaukee Junction HAER MI-416 Detroit Michigan WRITTEN HISTORICAL AND DESCRIPTIVE DATA FIELD RECORDS HISTORIC AMERICAN ENGINEERING RECORD National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior 1849 C Street NW Washington, DC 20240-0001 HISTORIC AMERICAN ENGINEERING RECORD DETROIT’S MILWAUKEE JUNCTION SURVEY HAER MI-416 Location: Milwaukee Junction, Detroit, Michigan The survey boundaries are Woodward Avenue on the west and St. Aubin on the east. The southern boundary is marked by the Grand Trunk Western railroad line, which runs just south of East Baltimore from Woodward past St. Aubin. The northern boundary of the survey starts on the west end at East Grand Boulevard, runs east along the boulevard to Russell, moves north along Russell to Euclid, and extends east along Euclid to St. Aubin. Significance: The area known as Milwaukee Junction, located just north of Detroit’s city center, was a center of commercial and industrial activity for more than a century. Milwaukee Junction served, if not as the birthplace of American automobile manufacturing, then as its nursery. In addition to the Ford Motor Company and General Motors, many early auto manufacturers and their support services (especially body manufacturers like the Fisher Brothers, C.R. Wilson, and Trippensee Auto Body) were also located in the area, probably because of the proximity of the railroads. Historians: Kenneth Shepherd and Richard Sucré, 2003 Project Information: The Historic American Engineering Record conducted a survey of Detroit’s Milwaukee Junction, a center of auto and related industrial production, in summer 2003. The City of Detroit and the city’s Historic Designation Advisory Board sponsored the survey.
