Nowhere does this become more apparent than in education. Closing and reopening schools touches all our lives, whether we have children in K-12, higher education, or work in the education arena. The issue of reopening our schools is also an important economic and workforce development issue. As we continue to reopen our economy, parents in the workforce will continue to grapple with balancing working, whether from an office or home, with the need to keep being engaged in their children’s learning in many cases from an online platform. Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chamber assembled a group of community and business leaders to provide leadership in helping to reopen our regional economy safely. Those involved in the early stages of RELAUNCH Greater Lansing Task Force immediately recognized the importance of having leading educators in both K-12 and higher education represented on TIM DAMAN the task force. President and CEO Lansing Regional The Lansing Regional Chamber is proud to have played a leadership role during COVID-19, not only in the RELAUNCH Chamber of Commerce Greater Lansing task force but actively communicating the latest information about COVID-19, something we found changed daily.

    Chapter 2 - Brian Breslin Brian Breslin Personal: Brian Scott Breslin, son of legendary athlete and administrator Jacweir “Jack” Breslin and Sheila Renee Scott, was born on February 17, 1951. During the seasons that Brian played for the Spartans, his father, Jack Breslin, was Executive Vice President of Michigan State University. Brian earned his Bachelor of Science in Food Systems & Economic Management in 1977. Okemos High School 1965-66 Breslin played basketball for Okemos High for only one season, his freshman year, after which his parents moved the family to nearby East Lansing where Brian played basketball three seasons for East Lansing High School during his sophomore to senior years. East Lansing High 1966-69 – During three seasons playing basketball for the Trojans of East Lansing High, Breslin received numerous honors, including 1st Team All-State – Detroit Free Press; 1st Team All-State – UPI; 2nd Team All-State – AP; 1st Team All-City; 1st Team All-Conference; Honorable Mention All-American – Coach & Athlete Magazine; Team Most Valuable Player; and two season records: single season scoring record holder and most rebounds (289) in one season. This annual report will provide our community with the opportunity to reflect on numerous 2007 success stories. As most of you know, 2007 marked the 100th birthday of our City. Thus, the arrival of 2008 leaves the City of East Lansing bidding a bittersweet farewell to an exceptionally action-packed year. The Centennial Celebration got off to a frosty yet fun start with the capturing of a “Human 100” photograph in downtown East Lansing. Other Centennial events included a Guinness World Record™ attempt at the World’s Tallest Cupcake Tower and a breathtaking fireworks show at Patriarche Park. Throughout this milestone year, City staff and volunteers strived to make the 2007 Centennial Celebration unforgettable for residents and neighbors and we thank all of you who took part in our fun-filled birthday events.
