Reflections on a Centennial Year 2008 Community Calendar & 2007 Annual Report Dear Friends and Neighbors, AT A GLANCE We are thrilled to submit the enclosed progress report to residents and supporters of the great City of East Lansing. This annual report will provide our community with the opportunity to reflect on numerous 2007 success stories.

As most of you know, 2007 marked the 100th birthday of our City. Thus, the arrival of 2008 leaves the City of East Lansing bidding a bittersweet farewell to an exceptionally action-packed year. The Centennial Celebration got off to a frosty yet fun start with the capturing of a “Human 100” photograph in downtown East Lansing. Other Centennial events included a Guinness World Record™ attempt at the World’s Tallest Cupcake Tower and a breathtaking fireworks show at Patriarche Park. Throughout this milestone year, City staff and volunteers strived to make the 2007 Centennial Celebration unforgettable for residents and neighbors and we thank all of you who took part in our fun-filled birthday events. East Lansing celebrated its 100th We are especially thankful for the leadership of former mayor Liz Schweitzer who birthday in 2007. served as chair of the Centennial Commission.

Additional points of pride for 2007 include enhanced regional partnerships and advancement of several key initiatives, including the completion of a 10-year improvement project at the East Lansing Soccer Complex and the launch of the East Lansing Emerging Leaders Program. On the economic development front, we broke ground on a number of innovative residential projects in our downtown and nearby neighborhoods, and in an effort to maintain our vibrant downtown, we continued to implement business attraction and retention programs that further solidify the City as a regional destination. The City continued a community As the sun sets on 2007 and rises on 2008, we look forward to the City’s next 100 fundraiser to bring a new, years. We also look forward to continuing to meet the ever-changing needs of this 12-feature Splash Pad to the wonderful community. East Lansing Family Aquatic Center in 2008. Sincerely,
