Nesse caso, vamos considerar a representação das personagens femininas, mais visível em Carol, que se destacou como protagonista em momentos decisivos. O comportamento das mulheres se modifica ao longo das temporadas e elas se tornam cada vez mais fortes, independentes e decisivas, surpreendendo o público com suas ações. É feita uma comparação entre a fase inicial (1ª temporada) e a última temporada (4ª), exibida integralmente até 2014. As mulheres deixam de atuar somente como mães e donas de casa para dividirem com o líder, masculino, o protagonismo nos episódios da série. 4 METODOLOGIA A pesquisa foi realizada com foco na análise dos conteúdos dos episódios, observando, principalmente, a evolução das ações das personagens femininas. Isso foi feito também por meio de comparação quantitativa em relação ao tempo em que Rick, Carol e outras personagens femininas relevantes permaneceram em cena.

    e Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy We All Have Jobs Here: Teaching and Learning with Multiple Intelligences in The Walking Dead Elizabeth Gartley South Portland, Maine, USA [email protected] ABSTRACT A model can be useful when engaging secondary students in team-building by appreciating differing skills and identifying their own strengths. In this example, a model was provided that students to indulge in the transgression of popular culture and zombie media. Middle and high school students participated in a critical thinking and team-building unit which capitalized on student interest in zombie popular culture, particularly the AMC series The Walking Dead. Students engaged in cooperative activities with a “zombie apocalypse” theme. Activities included identifying roles for team members based on individual skill sets in order to strengthen to group as a whole. This approach allowed students to approach this unit as assembling a “zombie apocalypse team,” an idea borrowed from popular culture. The popular culture “zombie apocalypse team” shows that survival depends on building a cooperative team of individuals with disparate but complementary skills and approaches to problem solving. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences can provide theoretical framework to examine how the group of survivors in The Walking Dead combine multiple intelligences, as represented by individual characters, to survive. This model can provide a more detailed context to allow students to their own strengths within a team. While this description applies to characters such as Breaking Bad’s Walter White, it is also used by political commentators to characterize what is popularly perceived to be the prototypical male supporter of President Donald Trump. When considering the cultural zeitgeist of the angry White man, are there any cultural and rhetorical connections between White, male Trump supporters who exhibit irrational feelings of marginalization and dramas such as Breaking Bad whose protagonists similarly exhibit and are motivated by such feelings? As a theorist and critical scholar of televised rhetoric and discourses, I am interested in analyzing such programming to determine whether these prestige antihero series invited viewers to contribute to the current masculinist movement under Trump and reassert dominance in response to perceived losses to women and minority groups. The specific episodes that will serve as case studies for this research into the relationship between modern prestige television and the cultural zeitgeist of Trump’s America will be drawn from Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, due to their cultural influence and visibility.
