Once again, the sun shone for our concert on the Common and those who attended were entertained by a host of local talent including the crowd-pleasing Albert Thomson, Terry Dean, Bolton duo Simpatico and the ever young ‘Young Once’. The inimitable Chonkinfeckle opened the show and at the end of the day the versatile Steve Burton revived the chilly audience with his excellent renditions of Elvis and Frank Sinatra. Young Once from Tyldesley Terry Dean from Ellenbrook Albert Thomson from Garrett Hall, Mosley Common Young talent was well represented by Grace Luisa, from Walkden and 2 finalists from the Wigan Stars talent competition, Matilda Carroll and Tayla Cottam as well as the nine year old ‘Mini Elvis’ Johnny B Goode from Billinge. In addition the Chorlton Cloghoppers entertained us with their energetic dances and the Astley Christian Fellowship took us through their repertoire of singalong songs. Add to all that the old favourites Ellenbrook Steve Burton and Boothstown Brass Band and it really was a variety performance! From Boothstown All the fun of the fair!! • Housing Needs Assessment Sub-Area Profiles
Housing Needs Assessment 2020 Sub-Area Profile Wigan Council Housing Needs Assessment Affordable Housing Need – Wigan Sub-Area Profiles 1 Housing Needs Assessment 2020 Sub-Area Profile Executive Summary Introduction The Wigan Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) 2020 provides the council with up-to-date evidence to support the local plan and its future development. It also provides detailed, robust, and defensible evidence to help determine local housing priorities and to inform the council’s new housing strategy. This research provides an up-to-date analysis of the social, economic, housing, and demographic characteristics of the area. The HNA identifies the type and size of housing needed by tenure and household type. It considers the need for affordable housing and the size, type, and tenure of housing need for specific groups within the borough. The HNA (2020) incorporates: • extensive review, analysis, and modelling of existing (secondary) data. • a comprehensive household survey (Primary Data) • interviews with estate and letting agents operating within the borough; and an online survey of stakeholders. The evidence base for the housing needs assessment (HNA) has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the February 2019 National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and associated Planning Practice Guidance (PPG) and the findings provide an up-to-date, robust, and defensible evidence base for policy development, in accordance with Government policy and guidance. Considering the forthcoming new affordable homes programme Wigan Council are keen to see the affordable housing needs of the borough considered when registered providers are seeking to bring forward new schemes. Our HNA provides us with robust data at a sub area level which should allow us to shape the affordable housing offers in each of these areas and meet our defined housing needs.

  • Patterns of Poverty in Greater Manchester's Neighbourhoods
Patterns of poverty in Greater Manchester’s neighbourhoods Analysis of small area poverty estimates for 2014 Inclusive Growth Analysis Unit, May 2017 Patterns of poverty in Greater Manchester’s neighbourhoods In April 2017 the Office for National Statistics published a set of model-based estimates of poverty for Middle Layer Super Output Areas in England and Wales in 2013/14. 1 These estimates can be used to assess differences in the proportion of households in poverty across small areas. This note outlines our initial analysis of the data for Greater Manchester. A short glossary note is included at the end, describing key terms. It should be noted that these are modelled estimates which are subject to wide confidence intervals. In Moss Side, for example, 25.8% of households were estimated to be in poverty, with a lower confidence limit of 18.5% and an upper limit of 34.6%. While the estimates offer insight into geographical patterns of disadvantage, detailed analysis of differences between specific neighbourhoods would not be appropriate. As a guide, the ONS estimates that only the 22% of MSOAs with the highest poverty rates are significantly different from the 22% in the lowest ranks.2 What is the scale of poverty at neighbourhood level in Greater Manchester? Figure 1: Poverty rates before and after housing costs across Greater Manchester 20143 BEFORE HOUSING COSTS AFTER HOUSING COSTS Across the 346 MSOAs in Greater Manchester the average (median) household poverty rate Before Housing Costs (BHC) was 16.1% in 2014. This means that on average just under 1 in 6 of the households living in these areas were income poor (BHC).

Notes: This spreadsheet ranks wards in Greater Manchester by their 'after housing costs' child poverty rate from highest to lowest. This is done using data published by End Child Poverty in 2019. The data also ranks areas based on the proportion of the population in a ward classified as black and minority ethnic (BAME) in census data. The higher the proportion of people who are BAME in a ward the higher the rank. This data shows that areas with the highest BAME populations in Greater Manchester are often the areas with the highest rates of child poverty. However, students will need to show an IGO pass to travel at the concessionary (reduced) fare. If students do not have an IGO pass, they will have to pay a higher fare. Most of the journeys shown in this timetable are funded by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). The majority of TfGM funded services charge a standard fare and also offer daily return tickets. In some cases, the return ticket can also be used for travel on other journeys which serve similar areas – even if it is provided by a different operator. On most services, students can also buy a weekly scholar’s ticket, which costs £7.40. These are ONLY valid on schooldays on school buses and are available from the bus driver on all services where they are applicable.
