Tyldesley, Astley and Mosley Commons is made up of 16 smaller areas one of which (Shakerley) is ranked within the top 10% most deprived in England according to the Indices of Multiple Deprivation. 4 areas are ranked within the top 20% most affluent in England these include Chaddock Lane, New Hall, Tyldesley South and Bodmin Road. 12.8% of residents claim out of work benefits, below the borough average of 15.9%. The community is relatively healthy with 6.1% of residents describing their health as ‘bad’ or ‘very bad’ compared with the borough average of 7.1%. 73% of residents either own their homes outright or have a mortgage, 15% of households live in social rented accommodation. Tyldesley can be accessed via the Wigan to Manchester service (32) or the Leigh to Tyldesley (684). Astley can also be accessed from Leigh via the 684. Mosley Common can be accessed from Wigan via the Manchester service (32) and from Leigh on the Leigh to Farnworth service (685) Tyldesley Library has 9 regular volunteers, combined they work an average of over 42 hours a month. There are 9 PC’s that on average are used by 778 people per month. .
