What can I do with a degree in… Rangeland Ecology & Watershed Management?

The rangeland ecology and watershed management curriculum is designed for students wishing to study ecology, utilization and management of rangelands and Employers of Recent Graduates wild land watersheds and related resources of forestry, recreation, wildlife management, soil science, botany and Bureau of Land Management zoology. The undergraduate course of study helps Conservation District students become well prepared for careers in natural National Park Service resource management (e.g., range management, watershed U.S. Forest Service management, restoration ecology/reclamation of degraded land, wildlife habitat management, ranch management, various types of environmental consulting), or other natural science careers. The curriculum fully meets the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requirements for Rangeland Management Specialist. By appropriate course selection within the elective hours, students will also meet OPM requirements for additional professional work, such as soil conservationist or hydrologist.
Students may choose one of nine concentrations:

Programs are primarily designed to College of Agriculture and Natural Resources prepare students for teaching or researching careers http://www.uwyo.edu/agprograms/internships/index.html in academia or private industry. Students can specialize in such areas as plant ecology, range economics, rangeland restoration, range nutrition, watershed management, wetland ecology and wildlife habitat management. In addition to completing the required coursework, students are required to complete a dissertation project under the supervision of a research advisor, with some programs also requiring a supervised teaching practicum.
