These articles represent two of the earliest works describing the racial apartheid experienced by Chicanas/os in Texas written from a Chicano perspective. Rechy then exposed another taboo, the homosexual underground of the pre-Stonewall Rebellion (1969) era, when one’s presence in a gay bar elicited harsh retribution from the state—from sex-offender status registration to involuntary electroshock therapy. Rechy’s debut novel, City of Night (1963), is a semi-autobiographical tale of a nameless protagonist navigating urban America as a hustler defying a society that criminalized queer ii bodies, desires, and lives.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Untitled by A.K. Wilder pit – art in public space. Artworks installed in public space might get the approval of local governments but that doesn’t mean that they will make a good impression on passersby. Or on people genuinely interested in art. Too many public artworks i come across are bland and sad addition to the city or the landscape. I suspect that some of them ‘dialogue’ with the surrounding space only in the mind of the artists and/or the commissioners. Fortunately there are exceptions to the rule (and the future might even get rosier.) Take the province of Limburg in Belgium where Z33, the house for contemporary art has launched pit – art in public space. A few years ago, the art space invited established names and young talents to visit several sites in the region, pick up the one they’d like to work with and then submit a project that would engage with the cultural background of the area and entice passers-by to look differently at the surroundings. The result is pit – art in public space. Florentijn Hofman, De Badeend, Neerpelt, 2012. Florentijn Hofman, De Badeend, Lommel, 2012. Florentijn Hofman, De Badeend, 2012. Badeend (the Rubber Duck) by Florentijn Hofman kicked off Z33’s art in public space programme back in 2008. Since then, the duck has been deflated, inflated again, turned into bright shoulder bags and resuscitated on several occasions. In 2011, pit commissions have spread all over the region of Borgloon-Heers and they might venture even further in the coming years.

  • November 19–20, 2020 32Nd Annual Festival of New Musicals 1
320nd NOVEMBER 19–20, 2020 32ND ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS 1 FROM THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE’S PRESIDENT WELCOME TO OUR 32ND ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS! I look forward to this journey every year: usually a physical journey to NYC to see old friends, meet new ones, and immerse myself in the exhilaration of NAMT’s Festival. This year, of course, will be different: I’ll travel to the world of the Festival while in Buffalo, but it will be just as eye-opening, poignant, enjoyable and provocative. I never know where the Festival will take me, but I know that during these two days I will feel a surprising and strong gamut of emotions. Not only will I be entertained and challenged, but I will also have perspectives and opinions reinforced one minute and completely altered the next. We’re delighted that you’re here to join us for these two days—truly just the beginning of the journey for these unique musical theatre pieces and their extraordinarily talented writers. I congratulate each of the writers who participated in this event and thank them for their creativity, intelligence, talent, and courage, which is the lifeblood of our artistic industry. We hope you’ll want to blaze a development path with them. Every year the Festival inspires many long-term relationships among writers, theatres, producers, directors and performers, and we expect this year will again initiate many partnerships, in new and varied ways. NAMT believes that the best way to encourage that ongoing development is to give our writers every possible opportunity to showcase their best work.
