    National Archives Church of Ireland Parish Registers SURROGATES This listing of Church of Ireland parochial records available in the National Archives is not a list of original parochial returns. Instead it is a list of transcripts, abstracts, and single returns. The Parish Searches consist of thirteen volumes of searches made in Church of Ireland parochial returns (generally baptisms, but sometimes also marriages). The searches were requested in order to ascertain whether the applicant to the Public Record Office of Ireland in the post-1908 period was entitled to an Old Age Pension based on evidence abstracted from the parochial returns then in existence in the Public Record Office of Ireland. Sometimes only one search – against a specific individual – has been recorded from a given parish. Multiple searches against various individuals in city parishes have been recorded in volume 13 and all thirteen volumes are now available for consultation on six microfilms, reference numbers: MFGS 55/1–5 and MFGS 56/1. Many of the surviving transcripts are for one individual only – for example, accessions 999/562 and 999/565 respectively, are certified copy entries in parish registers of baptisms ordered according to address, parish, diocese; or extracts from parish registers for baptismal searches. Many such extracts are for one individual in one parish only. Some of the extracts relate to a specific surname only – for example accession M 474 is a search against the surname ”Seymour” solely (with related names). Many of the transcripts relate to Church of Ireland parochial microfilms – a programme of microfilming which was carried out by the Public Record Office of Ireland in the 1950s.

This Report summarises the work of the Body during 2008. Membership of the Body 2.There were a number of significant changes in membership during the year. In the early spring, the British Co-Chair, the Rt Hon Paul Murphy, returned to the Cabinet and was replaced by the Rt Hon Peter Hain. Sean O‟Fearghail was replaced as an Irish Vice-Chair and Chair of Committee C by Ms Margaret Conlon. Most importantly for the future of the Body, the October session was attended for the first time by delegates from the Democratic unionist Party and the Ulster Unionist party. Political Developments General Overview 3. 2008 was a year of consolidation for the peace process in Northern Ireland following the restoration of devolved government in May 2007. MATTERS ARISING: Councillor Margaret Gormley asked for an update on the following issues: (a) Drainage works at Monasteraden Crossroads - Mr. Declan Noone, Area Engineer, advised that previous plans to tender for the works may not now proceed as additional Roads staff are due to be recruited shortly which should allow the Roads Dept. to carry out the works. (b) Connolly Park, Tubbercurry – Ms. Marie Whelan, Head of Finance contacted Mr. Bartley Gavin, A/Director of Services who advised that a Stage 2 submission to the Dept. is being prepared. Despite the existence of fairly sophisticated central planning machinery in Ireland and an active desire for reformon the part of the government (with an explicit policy on school location, buildings, curriculum, etc.), the school networks in the County still remain largely outdated and ill-adapted to modern circumstances. This situation results in costly under utilization of resources,a lack of equality of educational opportunity and supply, and inadequate pedagogical provision. The County is highlighted geographically and placed comparatively in the Irish context under the headings of demography, economic and social background, and educational system. Profiles of the school networks are given, and an analysis anda diagnosis are made of the first and second levels respectively. Internal comparative analysis by catchment area is made separately for the two levels under enrollment, transport, teaching staff, curriculum, physical facilities, costs, and financing.
