They play a very important role in our lives and we just wouldn’t be the same without them. You may have heard me mention that we have a cat called Ginger who is 19 years old. He has led an exciting life, having grown up in Switzerland, but when my sister relocated back to the UK Ginger came to stay with us and, 3 years later, he is still here. You can see a photograph of Ginger on page 37. Natalie recently won a pet photoshoot with Mark Hewitson Photography and now we have amazing photos of Ginger to treasure forever. It’s been too hot for both Ginger and me being held at the home of WWFC, these last few days. As I write we are Adams Park. Before UK lockdown began, Heart of Bucks set up the Bucks Coronavirus Response Appeal (BCRA) to fund groups providing services and support to the local community. The focus of the BCRA was to fund emergency response activity, giving grants to charities, organisations and community groups helping to alleviate some of the negative impact of COVID-19 on the local area. The cocktails were nicely boxed and it was exciting to open them and tuck in. Not having any cocktail glasses ourselves we purchased a selection of affordable glasses from a local supermarket, we had ice in the freezer, the fruit bowl was brimming with a variety of tropical fruits so we were ready for a special birthday celebration. Pornstar Martini has always been one of our favourite cocktails, Alex’s creation tasted exactly as it should. It felt like we were on a fun night out and we could let our hair down. The Mai Tai was a very popular choice, it tasted sharp yet sweet with a lovely tropical flavour to finish off and the Cosmopolitan was perfect for the party. The Raspberry Margarita reminded us of relaxing holidays in the sunshine beside the sea. We would definitely order these again! Alex also offers classic cocktails such as daiquiris, margaritas and mojitos. He told us “This year due to Covid-19, after conversing with various friends about missing the bar scene and making drinks, the idea to bottle our own was born! So I hope you guys like what you see! We are always experimenting and looking at new recipes, if you have a favourite let us know, maybe it could be a new addition to the line up”. Doorstep Bartender was created in 2019 after many years in the hospitality industry. I have worked in a variety of businesses, completed a degree in International Hospitality Management, and spent time abroad working in the industry. I have always wanted to run my own business, so I started working with local companies who motivated me to start my own venture. My experience, knowledge and curiosity has given me an insight into what guests enjoy and how best to accommodate their palates. I worked in a wine bar in Oxford under the tutelage of a Master of Wine and at the Botanist in Marlow for many years. I started running my own home based event’s company, creating cocktail experiences in people’s homes, whilst still working in the industry. Fast forward to this year, Covid 19 popped up, and the country went into lockdown with the hospitality industry grinding to a halt. I spent a lot of time thinking about cocktails and how I could add to my business in a different way. Whilst following the industry closely I noticed a lot of other businesses creating their own bottled cocktail serves, from top end bars to smaller ones around the country. With those businesses as motivation I wanted to create some of my own, and share some cocktail love with my own recipes. I revitalised my own brand and I’m now delivering my own cocktails within a 10 mile radius of Marlow, with future plans for national delivery. I am also connecting with a variety of local businesses and we are creating new ideas together. I also plan on working with local producers to obtain the finest premium ingredients to go into the cocktails. The menu is always evolving to keep it fresh and seasonal. As people begin to have more gatherings this is the perfect time to provide a new option for their events; with the added bonus that I can also supply event solutions if needed.
