Entomol. 87(6): 1718-1725 (1994) ABSTRACT Experiments were conducted to determine speed of action and toxicities of extracts of Tagetes minuta L., a source of naturally occurring insecticidal compounds. LC50 values for male and female Mexican bean weevils, Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman), were determined for /loral, foliar, and root extracts of T. minuta. The 24-h LCso values ranged from 138 lJ-g/cm2 for males exposed to the root extract (most susceptible) to 803 wlJcm2 for females exposed to the foliar extract (least susceptible). Increasing the duration of exposure 2 to 48 h decreased all LCso values 20-30 lJ-g/cm • Males were more susceptible than females. The time to incapacitation for 50% of the test insects (IT 50) for floral and foliar extracts indicated fast-acting, volatile components, whereas the root extract data indicated slower-acting components, likely a result of the interaction of photophase with time- dependent efficacy. Floral and foliar extracts of T. minuta may be useful as insecticides for controlling stored-product pests. Seedling of Marigold cultivar “Pygmy” were raised and transplanted on flat beds-1 on 10 October-1 2013 at 30-1 cm Plant to Plant and 60 cm Row to Row. The seedlings were subjected to four different levels of nitrogen, 70 kg ha , 90 kg ha and 110 kg ha along with the control with no nitrogen. Data were collected on plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, days to flowering, number of flowers-1 and flower weight. Different level of nitrogen had significantly affected-1 all the parameters mentioned below except-1 number of leaves plant . Maximum plant height (22.80 cm), maximum number of branches-1 plant (15.47), maximum number of leaves plant (158.67), minimum number of days to flowering (22.33), maximum-1 number of flowers plant (23.22), maximum flower weight (20.66 gm),-1 were recorded in plants receivedKeywords: nitrogen Tagetes at erecta the rate of 110 kg ha . -

Taishan Marigold Earns a Gold Medal in Beijing New Marigold stands out at 2008 Olympics WEST CHICAGO, IL – It took seven years of planning for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, and in the end, Taishan Marigold has earned a gold medal. These Dwarf F1 African marigolds – bred by PanAmerican Seed – stood out among the more than 200 million plants that were used in landscape beds throughout Beijing, and continually thrived throughout the high humidity and extraordinary heat of the summer months. Dr. Shi-Ying Wang, China Commercial Director for PanAmerican Seed, has been working closely on the Beijing Environment Project since 2001. Dr. Wang assisted in training and in providing technical support to the local growers and landscapers. Field trials were held in the summer of 2007 to observe plant performance under the extreme weather conditions. Taishan was a prominent performer in the landscape at Beijing National Stadium, also known as the “Bird’s Nest.” This sensational plant was named after the Taishan Mountains, regarded as preeminent among China’s five sacred mountains. The Taishan Mountains were elected to the “World Heritage List”in 1987 and are recognized as a symbol of power in the Chinese culture. Taishan Marigold is a new introduction that will be available in 2010 to the trade. In Chinese, Taishan means stability, which seems to be very fitting as Taishan Marigolds consistently withstand damage from shipping better than competing African Marigolds. In addition, Taishan offers stronger branching for improved landscape performance and delivers excellent, high-impact color. They are available in three colors: Gold, Yellow, Orange and also a mixture. -
