Administrative/Biographical History: George Augustus Henry Cavendish, 1st Earl of Burlington, nobleman and politician, was born on 21 March 1754. He was the third son of William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire, and Charlotte Elizabeth Boyle, Baroness Clifford; his eldest brother William became 5th Duke of Devonshire. Styled Lord George Cavendish for most of his life, he attended Trinity College Cambridge, and subsequently became an MP. He was MP for Knaresborough from 1775-1780; for Derby from 1780 to 1796; and for Derbyshire from 1797 to 1831. His title was a revival of that held by his grandfather, Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington and 4th Earl of Cork. The Earl married Lady Elizabeth Compton, daughter of Charles Compton, 7th Earl of Northampton and Lady Ann Somerset, on 27 February 1782 at Trinity Chapel, Compton Street, St. George Hanover Square, London. They had six children: Caroline (d. 1867); William (1783- 1812); George Henry Compton (1784-1809); Anne (1787-1871); Henry Frederick Compton (1789-1873); and Charles Compton (1793-1863). The 1st Earl of Burlington died on 4 May 1834 at age 80 at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London.

Domestic workers’ baseline survey focusing on child domestic workers and employers in Rwanda Kigali, July 2015 Baseline survey done by CDP-Rwanda, Ltd; Commissioned by CLADHO and IDAY-International; Funded by the European Union In partnership with: and FOREWORD The partnership and support from various organizations, local authorities and individuals have been very benefic in this baseline survey of domestic workers’ socio economic, health, demographic and geographical life conditions. The survey covered all domestic workers with a focus on child domestic workers on a sample of households’ randomly selected in 15 districts also selected randomly in 30 districts of the republic of Rwanda. Those districts are: KICUKIRO, GASABO, NYARUGENGE, MUHANGA, RUHANGO, HUYE, KARONGI, RUSIZI, RUBAVU, MUSANZE, GICUMBI, KAYONZA, NYAGATARE, KIREHE and BUGESERA. We note that all the five provinces have been covered by the study. The study collected also additional information about the domestic workers’ issues, the employers of domestic workers in one hand but also from national key informants found in targeted institutions through a desk review and assessment of political and legal framework of domestic work in Rwanda in another hand.     Project Origins – A Project by Ordinary Architecture Architecture Space and other sites across Burlington House 15 October 2016 – 15 January 2017 This Autumn the Royal Academy has commissioned Ordinary Architecture to create a series of interventions throughout Burlington House that offer an intriguing contemporary counterpoint to the ‘origin myths’ of architecture. The history of architecture is full of ‘origin myths’, stories of how and where architecture began. What makes these ‘origin myths’ important is the way they describe the point at which architecture becomes culture, when the act of building becomes imbued with cultural meanings that can be read and interpreted. Origins – A Project by Ordinary Architecture takes these myths as the starting-point for a series of interventions around the RA that are intended to pose a new, provocative allegory of the foundations of contemporary architecture. Several of the interventions occupy prominent spaces that are currently empty or in transition during the ongoing redevelopment of the RA, thus forging an intriguing dialogue with the building’s own history. Other interventions can be found in lesser-known or often overlooked parts of the building, resulting in a reassessment of how the spaces are experienced. Realised through a number of techniques and materials, the interventions are grouped according to particular themes which together pose a new set of ‘origin myths’ of architecture. Embracing the creative possibilities of erroneous theories, misunderstood histories, personal mythologies and speculative ideas, Origins offers a powerful new perspective on the myths, conventions and histories that guide how architecture is both created and experienced.     Kathrin Dräger, Mirjam Schmuck, Germany 319 The German Surname Atlas Project ± Computer-Based Surname Geography Kathrin Dräger Mirjam Schmuck Germany Abstract The German Surname Atlas (Deutscher Familiennamenatlas, DFA) project is presented below. The surname maps are based on German fixed network telephone lines (in 2005) with German postal districts as graticules. In our project, we use this data to explore the areal variation in lexical (e.g., Schröder/Schneider µtailor¶) as well as phonological (e.g., Hauser/Häuser/Heuser) and morphological (e.g., patronyms such as Petersen/Peters/Peter) aspects of German surnames. German surnames emerged quite early on and preserve linguistic material which is up to 900 years old. This enables us to draw conclusions from today¶s areal distribution, e.g., on medieval dialect variation, writing traditions and cultural life. Containing not only German surnames but also foreign names, our huge database opens up possibilities for new areas of research, such as surnames and migration. Due to the close contact with Slavonic languages (original Slavonic population in the east, former eastern territories, migration), original Slavonic surnames make up the largest part of the foreign names (e.g., ±ski 16,386 types/293,474 tokens). Various adaptations from Slavonic to German and vice versa occurred. These included graphical (e.g., Dobschinski < Dobrzynski) as well as morphological adaptations (hybrid forms: e.g., Fuhrmanski) and folk-etymological reinterpretations (e.g., Rehsack < Czech Reåak). *** 1.
