HBO Premieres the New Drama Series Boardwalk Empire in the Caribbean HBO premieres the new drama series Boardwalk Empire in the Caribbean Miami, September 28, 2010- HBO Latin America announced that the new, highly anticipated drama series, Boardwalk Empire, will premiere in the Caribbean on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Created by the Emmy®-winning writer of “The Sopranos”, Terence Winter, and produced and directed by the widely acclaimed Martin Scorsese, this roaring ‘20s drama takes place at the dawn of Prohibition, when the sale of alcohol became illegal throughout the United States. The plot follows a corrupt politician and his network of liquor smugglers, as they rise to undisputed leadership of the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk. “Once again, HBO offers the perfect combination of the best talent from film and television, as well as a storyline full of drama and action. Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese and producers like Mark Wahlberg, in collaboration with this outstanding cast, will make Boardwalk Empire one of the best series of all time and, without a doubt, a true favorite among our Caribbean subscribers,” said Gustavo Grossman, Vice President and General Manager of HBO Networks Latin America. With the Great War over, it is a time of vast changes in America. On the beach in southern New Jersey sits Atlantic City, a spectacular resort known as “The World’s Playground” – a place where the rules do not apply. Its famous boardwalk, filled with luxurious hotels, nightclubs, amusement piers and entertainment rivaling that of Broadway, quickly emerges as the mecca for the illegal trafficking of alcoholic beverages. At the head of all backroom dealings and rum-running is the town’s treasurer, Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Steve Buscemi). Corrupt, yet clever, Nucky effortlessly caries out a double life – one in which he reveals himself to be a respected politician, by day, and a feared gangster, by night. Together with his brother Elias (Shea Whigham) – the town’s sheriff – and a crew of Ward Bosses and local thugs, Nucky heads smuggling operations, doing business with some of the most infamous names in mafia history: Arnold Rothstein (Michael Stuhlbarg), Big Jim Colosimo, (Frank Crudele), Lucky Luciano (Vincent Piazza) and Al Capone (Stephen Graham). As a result, Nucky positions himself as the primary contact for anyone wanting to obtain alcohol illegally. Posted on 2010/10/05 on hbomaxlapress.com HBO premieres the new drama series Boardwalk Empire in the Caribbean The story takes a complicated turn when Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt), Nucky’s former protégé and driver, returns from the war eager to get ahead and reclaim his rightful place in the political fixer’s organization. But when Jimmy feels things aren’t moving quickly enough, he takes matters into his own hands, forming a deadly alliance with some of Nucky’s associates, which promptly sets Federal Agent Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon) on his mentor’s tail. Boardwalk Empire’s star cast features Michael Kenneth Williams as Chalky White, leader of the area’s African-American community; Gretchen Mol as the exotic dancer, Gillian, who shares a long and complicated history with Nucky; Dabney Coleman as Nucky’s mentor, Commodore Louis Kaestner; Paz de la Huerta as Nucky’s girlfriend, Lucy; Kelly Macdonald as Margaret Schroeder, a married woman that also becomes involved with Nucky; Paul Sparks as Mickey Doyle; Anthony Laciura as Eddie Kessler; and Aleksa Palladino as Angela, Jimmy Darmody’s Bohemian girlfriend and mother of their three-year-old son. Inspired by Nelson Johnson’s book, BoardWalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City, Boardwalk Empire is directed by Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Jeremy Podeswa, Alan Taylor and Allen Coulter; executive-producers include Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg, with Gene Kelly as co-executive producer; produced by Rudd Simmons and Rick Yorn, with Howard Korder as supervising producer, and David Coatsworth as producer of the pilot. Writers that collaborated with Terence Winter include Lawrence Konner, Howard Korder, Tim Van Patten, Paul Simms, Margaret Nagle, Steve Kornacki and Meg Jackson. BOARDWALK EMPIRE "Pilot" Written by Terence Winter FIRST DRAFT April 16, 2008 EXT. ATLANTIC OCEAN - NIGHT With a buoy softly clanging in the distance, a 90-foot fishing schooner, the Tomoka, rocks lazily on the open ocean, waves gently lapping at its hull. ON DECK BILL MCCOY, pensive, 40, checks his pocket watch, then spits tobacco juice as he peers into the darkness. In the distance, WE SEE flickering lights, then HEAR the rumble of motorboats approaching, twenty in all. Their engines idle as the first pulls up and moors alongside. BILL MCCOY (calling down) Sittin' goddarnn duck out here. DANNY MURDOCH, tough, 30s, looks up from the motorboat, where he's accompanied by a YOUNG HOOD, 18. MURDOCH So move it then, c'mon. ON DECK McCoy yankS a canvas tarp off a mountainous stack of netted cargo -- hundreds of crates marked 'Canadian Club Whiskey·. With workmanlike precision, he and .. three CREWMAN hoist the first load of two dozen crates up and over the side, lowering it down on a pulley. As the net reaches the motorboat: MURDOCH (CONT'D) (to the Young Hood) Liquid gold, boyo. They finish setting the load in place, then Murdoch guns the motorboat and heads off. Another boat putters in to take his slot as the next cargo net is lowered. TRACK WITH MURDOCH'S MOTORBOAT as it heads inland through the darkness over the water. Slowly, a KINGDOM OF LIGHTS appears on the horizon, with grand hotels, massive neon signs, carnival rides and giant lighted piers lining its shore. As we draw closer, WE HEAR faint music which grows louder and LOUDER -- circus calliope mixed with raucous Dixieland jazz.

SHIRLEY Directed by: Josephine Decker Written by: Sarah Gubbins Starring: Elisabeth Moss, Odessa Young, Michael Stuhlbarg, Logan Lerman Running Time: 107 Minutes CORNERSTONE FILMS CONTACTS: Publicity: Anna Bohlin/ [email protected] Marketing: Joanne Michael/ [email protected] SYNPOSIS Fred and Rose move to a small Vermont college town in pursuit of a job for Fred as an assistant professor of literature. The young couple receives an offer for free room and board from professor Stanley Hyman, as long as Rose agrees to spend time cleaning up the home and looking after his wife, acclaimed horror author Shirley Jackson. At first Fred and Rose detest the rocky household of the eccentric couple, but they eventually establish deep bonds with their counterparts, which will test the limits of their young love. Director Josephine Decker makes an exciting return with a biographical portrait brought alive with energy and imagination, based on a novel by Susan Merrill and screenplay by Sarah Gubbins. Shirley is a fresh take on the period drama, full of contemporary intrigue and dynamic in style. It features a stellar lead cast—Elisabeth Moss, Michael Stuhlbarg, Odessa Young, and Logan Lerman—who all return to the Festival to give another memorable performance. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT Shirley Jackson was a wildly unorthodox human and storyteller. Encountering her work was like finding a map towards becoming the kind of artist I would like to be. Daring. Intimate. Structured yet dreamlike. Shirley’s work rides on the skin between imagined and real, seducing with its oddness and humble cracks until you can’t tell if you’re looking up the stairwell or into your own mouth.
