We are receiving a number of inquiries regarding enrolment for 2017.

Just to clarify:

 Our zone includes all of the Mount and Papamoa up to Palm Beach Boulevard.  Students living in the Tahatai Coast school zone are all in zone for Intermediate School.  After examining current roll numbers we believe that there will be additional spaces available for students living out of zone.  Prospectus' will be delivered to Mount Maunganui Primary, School and School.  Parents/caregivers of prospective enrolments from other schools can contact the school office directly and a prospectus will be posted out to you.  Our information evening will be held on Tuesday 16th August. You can wander freely around the school from 6.00 - 6.30. The information evening begins at 6.30 pm in the hall.

Please contact the school office or visit our website if you have any further enquiries.

Mount Maunganui/Papamoa Schooling Review: This is a schooling review being completed by the Ministry of Education. There are details of this review later in the newsletter. It is really important that you complete the survey in the newsletter. This is your opportunity to give feedback on the schooling options and zones for the schools in this community. Please make sure you complete this survey!

Writing Responders: Can you help us? Mum's, Dad's, Nana's, Koro's, Aunties and Uncles, big brothers or sisters? We would love your help?

In term 3, we are implementing a research based, school wide writing programme. This involves students writing independently, each week, to an anonymous responder for 10 weeks. This is a wonderful programme and it is very rewarding for the writers and the responders. Don't be afraid, it is very simple and we will show you what to do. Let us know if you can help.

Great news over the break. Congratulations to the MMI Futsal team winning their inaugural tournament and to Zyleika Smith, winning Gold for North Island’s Synchronised Swimming Competition. Congratulations to our Young Innovators in the final 4 and well done to all of our inventors and scientists. Good luck for the Science Fair.

Have a great week.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION MOUNT MAUNGANUI/PAPAMOA SCHOOL NETWORK SURVEY

Consultation Mount Maungani/Papamoa Schooling Review

The Ministry of Education (MOE) is currently conducting a review of the Mount Maunganui-Papamoa school network to ensure that all children and young people in the area can access education, making best use of the existing school network. In 2011, new primary and secondary schools were opened in Papamoa East. Currently the coastal strip is experiencing population growth by a steady inflow of new families to the area, and the development of new subdivisions in Papamoa East.

The focus areas for this review comprise:

A. Enrolment zones in the current school network. B. The status of Tahatai Coast School being a full primary school (Years 1 – 8). C. How best to manage current and future school age population growth in Mt Maunganui/Papamoa.

Part of the review includes a consultation with the network's schools and communities, the wider community and other key stakeholders. Education Consultants (NZEC) has been contracted by the MOE to conduct this consultation process on its behalf. The responses (hard copy and online versions) will be collected by NZEC, collated, and reported to the MOE, along with surveys from other community members and key stakeholders.

This survey has been generated for caregivers of children attending schools in the Mt Maunganui/Papamoa area. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.

School community surveys. 1. There are still three weeks for your school communities to participate in the survey (on-line or hard copy).

Wider community. 1. We have created a survey for the wider community (those without children in schools and ECE centres). 2. Consultation has been advertised in Sun and Bay News. 3. Hardcopies are available at Arataki Community Centre and Papamoa Library. 4. The closing date for this survey is 12th August. 5. Drop in’ sessions with Wayne and I have been advertised: Weds, 3rd Aug, 11.30am-6.30pm Papamoa Library (community centre room) and Thurs, 4th Aug, 10 am–4 pm, Arataki Community Centre. Dallas and/or Gavin will be available during these sessions (either for contact or visiting).

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/mtpapschools, This online survey needs to be completed by 12 August 2016.

If you do not have access to the online survey, you can collect one from your school office, this needs to be returned to them by 12 august 2016.

TAI MITCHELL SUCCESS EAST 2ND PLACE

18 boys from Mount Maunganui Intermediate, along with 4 boys from Aquinas College (Tauranga East), travelled to Opotiki on the final Friday of term 2, ready for 6 days of hard rugby in the annual BOP Primary Schools Tai Mitchell Tournament.

The boys had a great time and bonded well, whilst staying together at Ohope throughout the tournament. The team played well throughout pool play, at times in difficult, windy conditions, finishing unbeaten after a 19 all draw with on the Monday.

We were seeded fourth after pool play and played against our arch rivals, Tauranga West, in the semifinal. We played well, and it looked as if the game could be going into extra time as the scores were 7 all, with time almost up. A charge down then a great run and try from Corban Laban-Palmer secured a last minute 14-7 victory.

We went through to the final against Rotorua Maroon. The team played their hearts out and went into half time, down 10-14. We attacked the Maroon line but unfortunately could not score at the beginning of the second half. A couple of break out tries turned the game but we finished strong for a 20-38 loss.

Congratulations to Jai Knight, who was named in the tournament team. Congratulations to Jai Knight, Kees Samuels and Moai Tihi who were selected to trial for the Roller Mills team. There were a number of players who must have been unlucky to miss out on trials, after a stand out tournament.

Congratulations to the following MMI students who came second in the tournament. Grady Forbes (captain), Corban Laban-Palmer (vice-captain), Finn Redmond, Cooper Gibson, Moai Tihi, Liam Davoren, Reuben Irwin, Jai Knight, Kees Samuels, Kahu Ross, Gus Shivnan, Vili Potter, Melie Fai’va, Blake West, Harrison Leach, Jaden Marra, Tristan Hannah, Tauhara Chase
