    Blues aus der Wüste Das theoretische System der Musique Maure Modi, Instrumente und Mikrotonalität von Mike Herting nach Maalouma bint Meidah und Lemrabott ibn Meidah unter Mitarbeit von Aly Ndao Zeichnungen von Isabelle Fiadeiro Über den Autor: Mike Herting ist einer der führenden deutschen Musiker seiner Generation und Fachmann für interkulturelle Zusammenarbeit. Neben dem Studium der klassischen Musik und der Komposition beschäftigte er sich seit frühester Jugend mit dem Jazz und in der Folge mit den Musiken der Welt. Als Komponist, Leiter und Pianist arbeitete er mit einigen der besten Ensembles der Welt: mit der WDR-Bigband, dem London Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Bundesjazzorchester, der NDR-Bigband. Als erster brachte er im Jahr 2000 die klassische südindische Musik in Verbindung mit dem Klangkörper der WDR-Bigband, ausgedehnte Tourneen mit dem Bundesjazzorchester führten ihn nach Indien und Westafrika, jeweils in Verbindung mit führenden Musikern der dortigen Region.     Themalijst Op reis naar de Maghreb al-Maġrib al-ʿArabī) is een aanduiding voor het noordwestelijke deel ال عرب ي ال م غرب :De Maghreb (Arabisch van Afrika. In enge zin behoren Marokko, Algerije, Tunesië, Mauritanië en Libië tot de Maghreb. De letterlijke betekenis van het Arabische woord maghrib is plaats van de ondergang van de zon of westen. Binnen de Islamitische wereld ligt deze regio het meest in het westen, vanuit Saoedi-Arabië gezien. De Maghreb heeft een eigen identiteit binnen de Arabische wereld. Een van de kenmerken van de Maghreb is, dat hier de Maghrebijnse dialecten van het Arabisch worden gesproken, die onderling doorgaans redelijk verstaanbaar zijn, maar die op bepaalde onderdelen, zoals grammatica, verschillen van de Arabische dialecten die bijvoorbeeld in Egypte en het Midden-Oosten worden gesproken. Wel is het vocabulaire nog grotendeels gelijk. Een ander kenmerk van de Maghreb is, dat hier relatief veel Berbers leven of leefden. Verder is een groot deel van de Maghreb lange tijd onder Franse heerschappij geweest, en is de invloed van de Franse cultuur hier ook groot, en van het Frans, als taal van het onderwijs, de wetenschap en overheid. Met het grootste deel van de rest van de Arabische Wereld heeft de Maghreb onder meer gemeen, dat het Arabisch de officiële taal is, en dat de meerderheid van de bevolking islamitisch is.
