While we are hoping that things continue to trend in a positive direction, we respectfully reserve the right to put some tighter guidelines in place in case things change and the health department requires them. A few things you can expect: • Please respect each person’s need for space which might be different than yours! • Currently, we do not anticipate asking people to mask up during outdoor portions of this event including packet pickup, the expo, and the race itself. • Bring a mask to Steamboat—there may be businesses who will require that you wear one. • All food service and restaurant public health rules will be enforced at inside venues. • Bigger start gaps have been created between different course distances. Please respect other rider’s space. We re- quest that you do not show up at the line until 30 minutes before your start time. • Portable restrooms will have hand sanitizer, hand washing stations will be present, and food service at the aid stations will consist of individualized servings (no sticking your hands into a big bowl of pretzels, for example). I then told Jeff about my current test recumbent. Now, Jeff isn’t exactly the world’s biggest recumbent fan. He has a 50-year-old wooden sailboat that he owns (or perhaps owns him) and sails, but he does ride his mountain bike around town for transportation. He likes to tease me about my fleet of weird bikes. But when I we walked into the door of PT Cycles and he saw the Greenspeed GTT tandem tricycle, his eyes lit up. He decided to ride the tandem in the parade with his daughter Emma, who is six. We decided that Jeff needed a GTT piloting course. We rolled the GTT out the door. I told Jeff to hang on, and we were ripping down Water Street. Jeff reminded me that he needed to unlock his Stumpjumper so Amy could ride it home, so I pulled a quick U-turn in the middle of Water Street and headed back into town. Jeff and Emma Kelety ride the Greenspeed GTT in the Port Townsend Once that duty was taken care of, we took Rhody Parade (photo by Deborah Carroll) a left on Water as we started Jeff on a crash course of Tandem Trike Piloting 101.

Fall 2005 The Freeride Issue Tips on: - building dirt jumps - 90 freeriding locations Sponsored by - success stories Plus: Backyard Reports Rocky Mountain Bicycles' Wade Simmons New Riders of the Purple Sage By Mike Van Able, IMBA Executive Director Welcome to IMBA’s third-annual Freeride Guide. Trail News first focused on freeriding in the Summer 2002, offering a five-page report that contained the prescient, if somewhat vague, observation that “whatever [freeride] is, it’s getting bigger.” We devoted an entire issue to the topic last summer, including dozens of useful tips for building challenging trail features, a list of freeriding areas across the globe — the list has been updated for this year’s guide — and a 15-step guide focused on risk management related to freeriding. (Back issues of Trail News are available online, free of charge, at imba.com.) In this year’s edition of the Freeride Guide you’ll find new advice on trail design, advocacy, freeriding success stories and a host of other topics . New riders are joining the sport every day — it’s vital that IMBA reaches out with advice tailored to the style of riding that gets them pumped. If you’ve read the previous Freeride Guides, you may have noticed that our tone tends to be somewhat cautious. That seems entirely appropriate when discussing a riding style that sends riders across elevated boardwalks and over crazy drop-offs! While injuries incurred while attempting stunts and jumps are a real concern, we need to recognize that mountain biking has always been risky. It’s ultimately up to individual riders to decide what level of risk is right for them.
