FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 20, 2012 MEDIA CONTACT: Cathy Wiedemer, 970.291.9013 [email protected] MOOTS/CYCLEPATH RAFFLE RAISES MORE THAN $19,500 FOR PORTLAND OREGON-AREA BIKE ADVOCACY AND TRAILS Bicycle Transportation Alliance and Northwest Trail Alliance are Beneficiaries STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO (August 20, 2012) -- Moots and its Portland, OR dealer partner, CyclePath, teamed up to raise $19,525.00 and awareness for two Northwest cycling advocacy organizations; Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) and Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA). The proceeds were raised through the Moots/CyclePath raffle in which the grand prize was a fully built Moots Psychlo X cyclocross bike valued at approximately $7,000.00. Moots donated the frame, seat post, stem and fork, and CyclePath the remaining components and bike build. Portland resident, Scooter Sutterer, won the Moots cyclocross bike. “When I bought the raffle ticket it was more about helping BTA and NWTA. Of course I thought it would be nice to win, but it’s always good to support local bike advocacy and trails,” said Sutterer. “ I was out of town, on business, the evening of the drawing and bummed I would miss the party. I had just sat down for dinner after a long day of traveling. It was perfect timing when the beer I ordered arrived about the same time as the email from Bill at CyclePath telling me I had won the Moots bike.” The drawing and celebration party was held August 1st atop the Ecotrust Building in Portland’s Pearl District, with beer served by Hopworks Urban Brewery, who donated their product and the monies collected from sales to BTA and NWTA. “Moots and CyclePath did it again! Thanks to their generous donations, The Bicycle Trail Alliance and Northwest Trail Alliance raised almost $20,000.00,” remarked Lisa Anguilla, BTA’s development director. “We’re proud to be associated with such a stellar brand and a great local bike dealer and so grateful for their commitment to support the work we do.” Since 1990 the BTA has been instrumental in helping to lead Portland’s bike-friendly culture forward by working in close partnership with citizens, businesses, community groups, government agencies, and elected officials to create communities where people can meet their daily transportation needs on a bike. Jon Pheanis, president of the Northwest Trail Alliance commented, “The proceeds from the Moots/CyclePath raffle go directly to programs that get more people on bikes, more bikes on the streets and trails, and more cyclists advocating for greater opportunities and access. Our local park and recreation systems are cash strapped becoming increasingly reliant on nonprofit organizations like NWTA and BTA. These partnerships are making a difference and leading the way, setting the stage for the next generation of cyclists.” The NWTA’s mission is to create, enhance, and protect mountain bike riding opportunities; to advocate for trail access; to promote responsible mountain biking; and to build, maintain, and ride sustainable trails. “It feels really good to involve the Oregon and Portland cycling communities in a fundraising event benefitting two great organizations that play, and will continue to play, key roles in moving road and mountain biking forward,” said Rob Mitchell, president of Moots. “We offer a huge thank you to the Oregon cyclists who supported this effort through the purchase of a raffle ticket.” -more- page 2 Moots Press Release 8.20.12 “The support of the local cyclists made this event a success,” added Bill Larson, owner of CyclePath. I can’t think of one person who bought a ticket that felt they had any shot at winning the Moots bike, but rather felt buying a ticket was a win because of where the money was going. Both BTA and NWTA have done notable work over the years to help our city gain safe and fun road and off-road access for bicycles. Here’s to more trail and bike paths!” Moots and CyclePath would also like to recognize and thank Chris King and Shimano for their contributions towards the build of Scooter Sutterer’s grand prize Moots Psychlo X.
