Not only do the gates hide the secretive lives of the women behind them, but they also hinder their potential. With the spawn of reality television present every cable network, The Real Housewives of Orange County delivers all of the expectations of this genre and more as it delves into the complicated lives of the women behind the gates. In previous years most reality television shows focused on young, freshly graduated students entering the real world, but with the development and success of fictional primetime television shows serving as counterparts, The Real Housewives of Orange County aimed to target a new audience. The emergence of popular shows such as Desperate Housewives and The OC paved the way for The Real Housewives of Orange County to have found a spot on television watchers’ radars.

Media Release: Monday May 18, 2015 The Real Housewives of Orange County Returns for a 10th season on Foxtel’s Arena Vicki Gunvalson, Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow and Shannon Beador return along with new Housewife Meghan King Edmonds Foxtel’s Arena is rolling out the red carpet for the hit series that starting it all, The Real Housewives of Orange County returns for a milestone 10th season, premiering Tuesday June 9 at 8.30pm, Express from the US. Original housewife Vicki Gunvalson returns along with Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow and Shannon Beador who are joined by the sexy and opinionated new housewife Meghan King Edmonds. Friend of the housewives, Lizzie Rovsek, also finds herself mixed into the drama as the ladies test the limits of loyalty, the depth of deceit and the bonds of friendship like never before. This season, the truth threatens to tear everyone apart, as one of the wives celebrates the miracle of life and another is stricken by tragedy. • “Drag Queens Talk Like Women, You Know”
“Drag Queens Talk Like Women, You Know” - A study in the Use of the Hedge “You Know” in Feminine-Gendered Speech Danny Bennet t 2016 C-essay 15 hp Engelska 61-90 Handledare: Pia Visén Examinator: Marko Modiano Abstract The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the use of the verbal hedge “you know” in the spontaneous speech of women and drag queens to compare for instances of certainty and uncertainty as described by Holmes (1986). For the data, episodes of the reality shows RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked which airs on Logo TV and The Real Housewives of Orange County which airs on Bravo TV were manually transcribed by the conventions of written speech. The use of “you know” was then analyzed by function and context. In the results of this study, the women used “you know” to express uncertainty more often than the drag queens, except not in the way Lakoff (2004) described as being an aspect of “women’s language.” The drag queens used “you know” more often to express certainty. However, when used to express uncertainty its use by the drag queens was more relevant to “women’s language” as described by Lakoff (2004) or an exaggerated performance of femininity. ‘RHOOC’ Reality TV Newbie Lizzie Rovsek on How the Show Helped Her Celebrity Marriage: “You’ve Got to Keep the Passion and the Fire Alive” By Brittany Stubbs Our favorite Bravo ladies are back in the Real Housewives of Orange County. You may have thought you met all the bombshells this season, but joining the reality TV cast on tonight’s episode is the much-anticipated wife, mother, and former pageant star Lizzie Rovsek. As any Housewives fan knows, with new women, we can expect new drama. And Rovsek makes it clear her debut will be no exception to the rule. Related Link: ‘RHOA’ Star Phaedra Parks Talks New Book and Marriage: “Remember What Made You Fall in Love” Celebrity Interview with RHOOC Reality TV Star Not only does she fall down at her first filmed party, but she also has to defend herself from the very beginning. “Vicki and I definitely had a rocky start,” the newly-minted reality TV star admits. “I didn’t feel welcomed by her and felt like I was a burden because she doesn’t like new people. I don’t think she likes what I do for a living or even my name.” As the only veteran OC housewife still remaining from the first season, Vicki Gunvalson has had issues with newbies in the past. But between Rovsek and Shannon Beador, the other rookie housewife joining the cast this season, Rovsek definitely believes she was in the firing line the most. While she was judged and picked on from the very beginning, Beador seems to have had an easier welcoming from the legendary veteran.

Did Vicki Gunvalson Get a Chin Implant? Our Expert Weighs In — Exclusive! [UPDATE] April 1, 2013 by Tiffany Wan Credit: Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images for Macy's; FayesVision/WENN.com Photo: Vicki Gunvalson: Before and After Her Latest Plastic Surgery! Update: Vicki Gunvalson freely admitted to getting a chin implant in the Season 8 premiere. Ever since promos for the Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8 began hitting our television screens, we’ve had one question on our minds: Did Vicki Gunvalson really get a chin implant? In the sneak peeks airing on Bravo, one of the housewives talks about Vicki’s post-divorce plastic surgery and mentions a chin implant. Vicki treated herself to an $8,000 makeover after calling it quits with her husband of 15 years, Donn Gunvalson. So what work did she have done on her face exactly? Wetpaint Entertainment spoke to Dr. Raffi Hovsepian of the Beverly Hills Institute to get an expert opinion on Vicki’s new look. “Although I haven’t worked on Vicki Gunvalson, from these photos it looks like the shape of her chin has been augmented with a chin implant,” said Dr. Hovesepian. But that’s not all! Vicki’s nose and cheeks got some TLC as well, and it’s likely she got a facelift. “Her nose also looks more refined which suggests a possible rhinoplasty revision with tip refinement,” Dr. Hovesepian commented. “It looks as if she has had either facial fillers, such as juvederm, to her cheek area, or facial fat grafting on her mid face.

Dr. Shayla Theil-Stern’s insights into the media industry helped guide my thinking about the role of digital technologies in the convergent television industry. I am thankful to Dr. Mary Vavrus whose research on gender and political economy shaped some of the key questions that emerge in this project. Throughout my graduate studies, Annie, Shayla, and Mary have challenged me to become a better scholar. The graduate student community at the University of Minnesota provided me with an incomparable community of scholars whose support has made this dissertation possible.
