    OCPS students bring home GOLD from National FFA Convention Colonial High School FFA Chapter earns Gold Emblem Award Nov. 9, 2017 – Orange County Public Schools FFA students from multiple schools bring back national awards from the 90th National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, IN. With over 67,000 attendees, FFA members from across the country came together attending leadership workshops, motivational presentations, business sessions, career expo and awards ceremony. The Colonial High School FFA Chapter won the Gold Emblem Award and placed second in the nation. This is the highest award that an Orange County FFA Chapter has received in a national FFA career development event. The team members (pictured in the top left photo) are: Ashton Santos, Jenna Ausburger, Sara Humphrey and Cameron Ramola. They are joined by the event coordinator (on left) and Orlando-Colonial HS FFA Teacher/Advisor, Ms. Caela Paioff (on right). Colonial’s FFA Chapter first earned the state championship in the Environmental Science CDE (Career Development Event) last January, earning the opportunity to represent Florida at the national level. The purpose of the FFA Environmental Science Career Development Event is to stimulate student interest and to promote environmental and natural resource instruction in the agricultural education curriculum and to provide recognition for those who have demonstrated skills and competencies as a result of environmental and natural resource instruction.     Timber Creek High School Advanced Placement Choice+ Program Informational Packet 2020-2021 1 Advanced Placement Choice Program (APC+) A P Ch ice The Advanced Placement Choice Program is a structured program for academically talented and highly motivated students. Our mission is to guide, to inspire and to recognize students who pursue a specific program of academic excellence. The AP Choice Program offers students academic challenges and introduces them to college-level work. Studentsice entering the APC+ Program take several Pre-AP (APC+) courses in ninth and tenth grade to introduce them to the demands of college-level work and to prepare them for Advanced Placement classes. Throughout their high school years, APC+ students have the opportunity to earn college credits and/or advanced course placement in college. Requirements for this program include a minimum of 6 total AP courses. Students must take at least one AP course each year of high school. Students must maintain a 3.0 unweighted GPA to remain in the program. Students must complete all APC+ cohort courses during their ninth and tenth grade years. Dual-Enrollment courses can be taken after meeting the eligibility requirements. The suggested course sequence for this program is outlined below, but can be changed and adapted for specific student needs to meet graduation requirements. All APC+ requirements must be fulfilled to remain in the program. Please refer to the FAQ page of the packet for a list of all AP courses offered at TCHS.     COVID-19 COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOOD Burger King: Offering 2 free kids meals with the purchase of an adult meal ordered online or through the Burger King smart phone app. OCPS Grab-and-Go Meals: Grab-and-Go meals will be available for pick-up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the car loop of each school site. At this time, students must be present to receive the meals. District staff will distribute the meals directly to those in their vehicle (drive-thru service) upon arrival. In addition, meals will be given directly to students walking and/or riding a bike. Based on recommendations from our federal and state leaders, all meals should be taken home to eat.     District graduation rate hits a new record high Seventeen high schools earn a graduation rate over 90 percent for the second time Dec. 20, 2018 – With a record-high graduation rate of 96.1 in our 19* traditional high schools for the 2017-18 school year, Orange County Public Schools is encouraged by a 2.3 percent increase from the 2016-17 figures. The Florida Department of Education released the 2017-18 graduation rates for the state, school districts, and high schools. Along with our record-high numbers, 17 traditional high schools earned graduation rates above 90 percent, and they were all above 86.5 percent. OCPS now outperforms the state average of 86.1 by 2.8 percentage points. “Our graduation rates are a result of the hard work of our students, teachers, parents and principals. The increase reflects the vision of Orange County Public Schools, to be the top producer of successful students in the nation. We will always strive to improve our graduation rates as we prepare our more than 211,000 students for college and career,” Superintendent Barbara Jenkins said. In addition, 17 schools increased their graduation rates in 2017-18. Edgewater High School increased its rate by 6 percentage points, the largest gain in the district.
