THE BRIDGE Governor William Bradford Colony Florida Society of Mayflower Descendants Volume 19, Issue 2 Fall 2020 Governor’s Message What a different world we live in since our last newsletter! Had nothing changed, we would be preparing for our normally scheduled Bradford Colony November meeting. At the end of November, Bradford Colony would have been hosting the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Florida Society of Mayflower Descendants of Florida. We had spent a great deal of time putting a wonderful plan in place. From contracting with a beautiful venue, hiring an engaging Wompanonoag Indian speaker, and planning a delicious menu, we had it covered! Thank you to all our Board Members for their hard work including Jeff Berg for having a commemorative pin designed, Robbie Robinson for planning the goody bags, Bob Rogers for collecting give-a-ways, and Terri McGoldrick for leading the drive for raffle items. Also a special thank you goes to Shirley Smith for volunteering to decorate the tables with a unique “First Thanksgiving” theme. Had we actually held the meeting, there were plans to recruit many more of you to help on the day of the event! Bradford Colony officers serve three year terms, with the most recent term ending in 2020. Normally, we would have inducted our new officers at the November meeting. This year, we have had to improvise, conducting our business by email. The slate of officers was sent out in a September email, asking for comments and approval. The Officers for the next term are listed herein. With respect to future meetings, we have been optimistic in reserving the following meeting dates with the St. Petersburg Yacht Club: February 6, May 1, and November 6, 2021. However, it is unclear if it will be feasible to gather on these dates or if our group will feel comfortable with meeting in person. We will keep monitoring the situation and stay in touch as things develop. Dues notices for 2021 will be sent out in January.
