The Symposium encourages discussion, debate, and the sharing of knowledge, research techniques and lessons in conservation, to address questions on the biology and conservation of sea turtles and their habitats. The 35th Annual Symposium was held from 18-24 April 2015 at Hilton Hotel- Dalaman, Mugla-Turkey. Turkish people believe the long life of turtles and their determination to reach the goal even at a slow pace. This historical significance of turtles and tortoises in the Turkish culture influenced the theme of the Symposium. This symposium was decided with the theme of “Hospitality”; to host all the turtle people from around the world, bringing everyone together and “bridging the civilizations” to reflect Turkey, as a country bridging Europe, Asia and Africa. This is a great opportunity for the people from these continents to participate in the Symposium, as it will be easy for them to travel from their home countries. Besides the regular sessions normally held at past Symposia, specific to the meeting in Turkey, 23rd April is “World Children Day” will be allocated to special sessions for children’s activities. Without a doubt, today’s children are the future sea turtle researchers and conservationists, and so we need to ensure that we pass our mission on to the younger generation. 35 th ISTS includes 14 oral and 35 poster presentations of Anatomy, Physiology, Health; 18 oral and 41 poster presentations of Conservation, Management and Policy; 6 oral and 16 poster presentations of Education, Outreach and Advocacy; 11 oral and 31 poster presentations of Fisheries And Threats; 14 oral and 26 poster presentations of Genetics and Population Biology; 23 oral and 36 poster presentations of In-Water Biology; 11 oral and 36 poster presentations of Nesting Biology; 5 oral and 3 poster presentations of Social, Economic and Cultural Studies Sessions. Another 13 presentation in Mediterranean Conference, 22 presentations in other workshops and sessions makes 135 oral and 225 posters all together. We hope these presentations and scientific information helps us to better protect the sea turtles in the world. Punta del Este and its surroundings (Maldonado and Punta Ballena) were a vast area of just sand and dunes, but in 1896 Antonio Lussich bought 4,447 acres (1,800 hectares) of uninhabited land started a botanical garden, known as the Arboretum Lussich, where he planted trees and plants from all over the world. Later the trees started to spread on their own, and now the area is full of mostly Pines, Eucalyptus, Acacias and various species of bushes. On July 5, 1907, Punta del Este was declared a "Pueblo" (village).

Abstract In spite of the fact that the great majority of seismic tsunami is generated in ocean domains, smaller basins as the Ionian Sea sometimes experience this phenomenon. In this investigation we study the tsunami hazard associated with the Ionian Sea fault system. A scenario-based method is employed to provide an estimation of tsunami hazard in this region for the first time. Realistic faulting parameters related to four probable seismic sources with tsunami potential are used to model expected coseismic deformation, which is translated directly to the water surface and used as an initial condition for the tsunami propagation. We calculate tsunami propagation snapshots and mareograms for the four seismic sources in order to estimate the expected values of tsunami maximum amplitudes and arrival times at eleven tourist resorts along the Ionian shorelines. The results indicate that from the four examined sources only one possesses seismic threat causing, wave amplitudes up to 4m at some tourist resorts along the Ionian shoreline. Introduction The western part of the Hellenic arc is one of the most seismically active areas in Greece and the entire Mediterranean region (Makropoulos and Burton 1981; Jackson and McKenzie 1988; Papazachos and Papazachou 1997).
