Well, it The Last Legion wasn't either, although I did find it entertaining. I must not have read the description carefully enough. No matter; overall, it was fun but just a little too silly. I'm beginning to wonder about the discernment of some of these actors, how they can play such intelligent roles for a film or two and then revert to something like this. Anyway, the story is really a Roman empire one, not a King Arthur story. We only see the tie-in to the later in the last few minutes of the film, in the epilogue. This action story is all about the last Caesar, a small boy, and the last legion that fought as Rome had now been taken over The Last Legion the Goths. The Roman Empire had come to an end. Mixed in with that tale was the famous "excalibur" sword. We see the origins of that and how it eventually got into the hands of King Arthur. But, once again, that is only explained in the final minutes. However, the sword is used by the good Roman general who protects the last Caesar from the Goths, who want him imprisoned for life, or killed. What made The Last Legion story interesting, at least for me, was the chase-scene type atmosphere of a small band of heroes protecting a little boy, fleeing the bloodthirsty Goths until they could mount some sort of counter-attack in the north in Brittania. That, and the pretty computer- generated scenery and action stunts, kept it interesting. However, don't look The Last Legion credibility in those action scenes and expect the typical political-correctness of today i. Some parts of this will leave you shaking your head in disbelief. You will feel you're watching a kids' film at times. However, if you want an hour-and-a-half of decent escapist fare, and can put your brain on hold for that time, it fits the bill and will at least entertain The Last Legion.     On second thoughts, let’s not go to Camelot: situating the ‘historical Arthur’ through casting in King Arthur and The Last Legion* Tony Keen Abstract. Hollywood produced two major Arthurian movies in the mid-2000s, King Arthur (Antoine Fuqua, 2004) and The Last Legion (Doug Lefler, 2007), even though the latter only introduces Arthur in the final scene. Both choose to place their narratives within the ‘historical Arthur’ genre, rejecting the quasi- medieval setting used by Excalibur (John Boorman, 1981), and later the TV series Merlin (UK, 2008– present), and instead placing the story in the context of the end of Roman Britain and the collapse of Roman rule in the west. They thus come within the interests of this conference. This paper is concerned with the ways in which the two movies characterise post-Roman Britain, and in particular, how they use the casting of their lead actor to underline their respective characterizations. King Arthur presents a soldier’s-eye view of the world, and is largely anti-authority (in the shape of the Pope’s representative Germanus). Arthur is a man whose first loyalty is to his men; to this end, the movie casts Clive Owen, known for working class roles in the TV series Chancer (UK, 1990–1991), Croupier (Mike Hodges, 1998) and Gosford Park (Robert Altman, 2001), as Arthur, though supporting him with more upper class figures such as Ioan Gruffudd and Joel Edgerton as Lancelot and Galahad. It was found on the site of the battle of Teutoburg, fought in September 9 a.d. This year, 2009, marks the 2000th anniversary of the battle that led to the annihilation of three Roman legions and changed forever the history of Europe. It was a tremendous shock for the Romans, who saw their mighty army destroyed by uncivilized barbarians. It was not yet the peak of the Roman Empire, but it was a first hint that something was deeply wrong with it. This text describes the presentation that I gave at the "Peak Summit" in Alcatraz (Italy) on June 27, 2009 (the picture shows me speaking there). It is not a transcription, but something that I wrote from memory, mostly in a single stretch, while I had it still fresh in my mind. The result is that my 40 minutes talk became a text of more than 10,000 words, much longer than a typical internet document (but still less than Gibbon's six volumes on the same subject!) A talk, anyway, can be longer and more effective than a post, mostly because the people listening to you are not distracted by the infinite distractions of an internet connection. So, I wrote this post trying to maintain the style of an oral presentation.     22 | The last legions: The “barbarization” of military identity in the Late Roman West Vedran Bileta Original scientific paper UDK 355.11(37) Abstract Traditional scholarship has argued that during the fourth and fifth centuries the waning Roman Empire came to rely to a large extent on recruits of foreign, barbarian origin for its defence. Such a pro-barbarian recruitment policy resulted in the weakening and collapse of Roman military capability in the West, and in the fragmentation and disappearance of the Western Roman state. The article re-examines the “barbarization” theory, following models postulated by M. J. Nicasie and Hugh Elton, as well as the recent results of identity studies focusing on the ancient world. By using the concept of the “barbarian” in political, rather than ethnic terms, the article presents the “barbarization” process not as a prime suspect for the empire’s fall, but as another way for the Roman state to maximize its resources and bolster its defences. Ed Ries October 21, 2010 Scotland during the Roman Empire Monument at site of the Roman fort of Trimontium Scotland during the Roman Empire encompasses a period of history from the arrival of Roman legions in c. AD 71 to their departure in 213. The history of the period is complex: the Roman Empire influenced every part of Scotland during the period. However the occupation was neither complete nor continuous. Interpretation is complicated by the fact that the idea of both "Scots" and of "Scotland" as a discrete entity did not emerge until later. The period is marked by appearance of the first historical accounts of the peoples of Scotland, as well as by extensive, yet inconclusive archaeological evidence. During this time, several tribes occupied Scotland. The Romans gave the name Caledonia to the land north of their province of Britannia, beyond the empire’s frontier. Although the Roman presence was at an important time in Scottish history, because it was when written records emerged, Roman influence on Scottish culture was not enduring. The Roman invasion under Quintus Petillius Cerialis began in AD 71 and culminated in the battle of Mons Graupius at an unknown location in northern Scotland – probably in the Grampian mountains in AD 84. Although the Caledonia Confederacy suffered a defeat, it was not long before the legions abandoned their gains and returned to a line south of the Solway Firth, later consolidated by the construction of Hadrian's Wall. Roman commanders subsequently attempted to conquer territory north of this line, including building the Antonine Wall, but their success was short-lived.

Camelot Castle is the castle where the royal family live, and where the court is held. The citadel houses a garrison of at least 12,000 men and had never fallen in a siege before Morgause's invasion by her immortal army. It is currently the home of Guinevere Pendragon, the Queen of Camelot after her husband King Arthur Pendragon. In virtual fan art, Arthur Pendragon is shown to be a very wealthy kingdom as it offers a prize of a thousand gold coins for participation in its tournaments. Camelot is widely known for its laws banning all forms of magic and enchantments on penalty of death, usually by burning or beheading. However, the meter theater illustrates of Merlin who is Arthur's servant, secret protector, and best friend, and Gaius's ward and apprentice.
