We’re so glad you’re here.

Inside these pages you’ll learn about some of our programs, our funders and most importantly some of the individuals who are Hubbard Hall. Because in fact beyond these four buildings and this beautiful campus, we are a community of individuals who come together to create, collaborate and learn from each other. Each of us strengthens our community by contributing what we can – our time, talents and resources – and by staying committed to the belief that it’s vital for us to gather together as human beings, to tell our stories, listen to and play our music, dance our dances and pass on our knowledge to others. We welcome you to the tribe.

We also ask you to consider contributing whatever you can. On page 14 you will see how we pursued our mission last season by the numbers. As you can see, individual contributions are a huge part of our income, though we have a nice balance between contributions and what we earn through our class fees and ticket sales.

You can always reach me at [email protected], 518-677- 2495 or by just stopping by sometime to talk to us about becoming further engaged here. And you can always donate via hubbardhall.org, over the phone at the number above or by dropping us a check in the mail. Your support is critical to our success.

Again, welcome - and we hope to see you more around here.

Sincerely,

David A. Snider Executive & Artistic Director Music, Theater, Opera, Dance, Visual Arts, Classes and Workshops for Learners of All Ages About Hubbard Hall Center for the Arts and Education Our Mission and Vision “Making art and community happen.”

Hubbard Hall is an arts center supporting creativity and inviting participation to make art and community happen. We strive to enrich the lives of individ- uals and communities, and offer valuable pathways to learning through the arts. Hubbard Hall intends that its programs promote and serve as a magnet for artistic activity.

In carrying out its mission, Hubbard Hall strives to • present and produce the very highest quality professional artists • create educational and performing opportunities for community members of all ages and abilities to participate in the arts • provide opportunities for mentoring and educational interaction between professionals and amateurs.

In this capacity, Hubbard Hall develops artistic talent, engages new audiences for the arts, and provides access to cultural programs responsive to the inter- ests of a diverse array of residents and artists in rural Washington County as well as neighboring counties in New York and Vermont. Hubbard Hall is also committed to restoring and preserving the 1878 Hubbard Opera House and the adjacent buildings in the Cambridge Freight Yard as community cultural assets. Arts Education On campus we provide a wide variety of classes and workshops year-round for learners of all ages, from Irish Step dancing to Karate and from Acting to Basket Weaving. There are Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Sessions and each class is taught by one of our trained master teaching artists. Off campus we bring the best in arts education programming into public school class- rooms, from Shakespeare in the classroom to standards-based playwriting programs and professional development opportunities for educators. Training Programs and Productions Innovation, experimentation and training are at the heart of Hubbard Hall. Our resident companies provide world-class performances throughout the year and also training opportunities in opera, music and theater for learners of all ages. Hubbard Hall Theater, Opera Theater and Music from Salem give audiences and artists the opportunity to experience work rarely seen or heard elsewhere. Performances and Presentations Through our Performance Series, musical groups, companies and solo artists perform in our beautiful opera house for packed, intimate houses. This series gives world-class artists the opportunity to perform acoustically or with minimum technical assistance and audiences the opportunity to experience amazing music, dance or solo performances in an intimate setting. Special Events and Rentals Hubbard Hall Center for the Arts consists of four beautiful historic build- ings, including an 1878 Opera House and three beautifully restored freight yard buildings, including art, music and dance studios, an exhibit and special event space and a black box theater and meeting space. The entire campus is available to rent for special events and conferences.

Contact David Snider at 518-677-2495, ext. 313 or [email protected] for more information. See www.hubbardhall.org for current programs and performances. I’m Gina Deibel.

I’m a Dance Teacher and volunteer at Hubbard Hall.

I first got involved at Hubbard Hall by volunteering and taking dance classes when my family moved to Cambridge in 2006.

What I love about Hubbard Hall is the people, our diversity and the fact that love for the arts unites us.

If someone was thinking about getting involved here, I’d say “come share your passion –whatever your talent or experience, there is a place for you at Hubbard Hall.”

I am creative. I am enthusiastic. I am Hubbard Hall. I am Hubbard Hall is a new campaign we’re launching to showcase all of the amazing people here. On the following pages you’ll meet a few - and we’ll feature even more through our website and e-blasts throughout the year. To find out how you can get involved, call 518- 677-2495 or email [email protected]. Thank you! I’m Adam Shulman.

I’m a homeschooler and a student of the arts, including music and ceramics.

I am an actor and singer at Hubbard Hall.

I first got involved at Hubbard Hall when I was asked to sing in the chorus of The Barber of Seville at age 13.

What I love about Hubbard Hall is that it has made a point to involve young people like me in its programs, it lets local organizations such as the Battenkill Chorale, of which I am a member, use its facilities, thus living up to its title as a community theater, and that it brings together people from all walks of life to learn from each other and over-all have fun!

If someone was thinking about getting involved here, I’d say that “No matter what media you use, if you are an artist wanting a place with a friendly, professional atmosphere to express yourself and be a part of the country community it is located in, The Hall will provide it.”

I am exploring. I am grateful. I am Hubbard Hall. I’m Evelyn Estey

I’m a Life Partner, mother, friend, volunteer, Life Coach and a Board Member and an enthusiastic audience member at Hubbard Hall.

I first got involved at Hubbard Hall when I moved here – looked around – and immediately found this Great Fine Arts Hub.

What I love about Hubbard Hall is the quality of each program and that it “works” under tough odds, and that it educates.

If someone was thinking about getting involved here, I’d say “get up off your seat and find out where to go, how to help.”

I am enthusiastic. I am loving. I am Hubbard Hall. I’m Gianna Faltskog.

I’m a student and volunteer at Hubbard Hall.

I first got involved at Hubbard Hall by seeing Gina at the farmers market with info about classes I wanted to take.

What I love about Hubbard Hall are the friendly teachers, great classes and the community – it’s like family!

If someone was thinking about getting involved here, I’d say go check out the campus and try a class or see a show.

I am unique. I am creative. I am Hubbard Hall. I’m Jessica Roosevelt.

I’m a Wife and Mom, Veterinarian, School Board Member, Gardener, Artist and a Volunteer and “Theater Mom” at Hubbard Hall.

I first got involved at Hubbard Hall by attending a pilates class, and then I signed my children up for a couple of dance classes, and then my daughter auditioned for and got a part in the Romeo and Juliet summer Shakespeare last summer. That was when I started attending the theater performances, and when it became apparent that I would be spending a lot of time driving to and from the theater for my daughter’s rehearsals anyway, I became a volunteer!

What I love about Hubbard Hall is the positivity and encouragement exhibited by the instructors, the beautiful theater itself and that I can see high quality theater performances that include both professional actors and local talent, and I don’t have to drive up to an hour or more hour away…it is right here in Cambridge.

If someone was thinking about getting involved here, I’d say “You’ll love it!”

I am creative. I am inquisitive. I am Hubbard Hall. I’m Otha Day.

I’m a Drum Circle, Rhythm Events Facilitator and Music Educator at Hubbard Hall.

I first got involved at Hubbard Hall by teaching a Wellness Class called HealthRHYTHM. What I love about Hubbard Hall is the connection and commitment to the wisdom of community participation in the Arts, the creative re-purposing of the Railyard buildings and the wide range of course offerings.

If someone was thinking about getting involved here, I’d say “Dive Right In because there is bound to be something here that will stretch AND deepen your life.”

I am Open. I am Rhythm. I am Hubbard Hall. 2014-2015 Donors and Funders

Sustaining Supporters For just the cost of a cup of coffee per day, you could be giving Hubbard Hall the power to make art and community happen year- round. Now you can support Hubbard Hall year-round while never having to be bothered by a fundraising letter or with writing a check ever again. Hubbard Hall staff members can set you up with automatic payments from your checking account or credit card. $100, $50, $40 whatever you can do per month will help us deliver on our mission and free you from bother. You’ll know you’ve done your part and it’s so easy you won’t even have to think about it! Call 518-677-2495 or email [email protected] to find out more and set up your automatic payments today.

The 2014-2015 Season was another huge success for Hubbard Hall, with participation in our classes and in our audiences increasing by 1,000 people. The numbers on the following pages reflect the number of contacts made (how many audience members, participants in class, etc.) so some of these overlap in real people. As you can see from the numbers, there’s a wide variety of interest and participation in our various programs. And participation costs us roughly $67 per contact per year. And yet – if every contact (enrollment in a class, attendance of a show) resulted in a donation of just $75 per year, we could underwrite our entire year with just individual donations. If every contact resulted in a $100 donation per year, we could serve another 3,300 contacts! As we move forward we’ll be working hard to increase the number of participants and continue to lower the costs per person - while inspiring others to give. We hope you’ll join us.

Hubbard Hall Giving Levels

By being here, by caring for this place, by bringing people together to create, listen, learn and laugh together, we are saying “this is important” – it’s im- portant for us as a community to gather, it’s important for us as human beings to tell stories, to express ourselves clearly and creatively, to see one another taking risks and to take our own risks together.

We value this forum, this home for artists and audiences and we say together – this is the way we choose to live – together, whole, connected. We want to dive deep, get our hands dirty, dance, sing, act, paint, perform ourselves – and here we can do it. We want to see each other, breathe the same air, and recognize each other with curiosity and compassion. Here we can do it. We want to make art and community happen. Here we can do it. What kind of gift will you give to our students, audiences and artists? We encourage you to make a gift that is personally significant to you. Please know that each and every dollar you give will make a big difference in the lives of our students, audiences, and artists and help Hubbard Hall deliver on its missions to enrich the lives of individuals and communities, and offer valu- able pathways to learning through the arts. You are certainly not limited to these levels, but hopefully they can give you some ideas on how your gift helps:

COHEN, THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOOD EMERGENCY ROOM AND A GREAT ONE.

Adam Cohen, MD, leads a dedicated emergency team of highly trained physicians and nurses. “SVMC is the only hospital in the region staffed entirely by doctors board- certified in emergency medicine, which means they’re trained to handle the most challenging emergencies. That care is further enhanced by a nursing program which has earned Magnet® recognition for excellence,” he says. “That expertise Emergency medicine physicians, Paul Donovan, DO, and training really instills confidence in our patients. I’m and Daniel Perregaux, MD very proud to be a part of this amazing team.” For more information on Dr. Cohen and the power of partnership in our Emergency Department, visit svhealthcare.org/stories.

PARTNERSHIP IS POWERFUL MEDICINE. Audible salutes Hubbard Hall, the amazing work of Andrew Pate, and the memory of our dear friend Bob Epstein.
