CRUTCHER DAPTATIONS OF GRAPHIC NOVELS AND COMICS FOR MAJOR MOTION pictures, TV programs, and video games in just the last five Ayears are certainly compelling, and include the X-Men, Wol- verine, Hulk, Punisher, Iron Man, Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Watchmen, 300, 30 Days of Night, Wanted, The Surrogates, Kick-Ass, The Losers, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and more. LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The essence of “Guillermo del Toro: At Home With Monsters,” the strange and wonderful exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) through November 27, is this: Guillermo del Toro, born in 1964, is a major writer and director whose films include Cronos (1993), The Devil’s Backbone (2001), Hellboy (2004), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Pacific Rim (2013) and Crimson Peak (2015). He is a master who creates worlds that embrace horror, science fiction, fantasy and fairy tales. He insists that, as fantastic as they are, these worlds are located and grounded beside, beneath and in the real world, our world — a world, he might argue, that we merely imagine as real. The membrane separating these worlds is thin, porous and portal-ridden. The worlds are distorted reflections of one another. This distortion becomes the occasion for his ideas and art. The challenge, which pits butchers from across Texas against each other for the chance to win cash prizes and the esteemed title of Beef Loving Texans’ Best Butcher in Texas, has brought some of the state’s most talented butchers together – representing an art form that has been important to Texas’ cultural heritage. Regional semifinal rounds will be held throughout the state in Houston on March 4, Dallas on March 18 and San Antonio on April 1. In each city, Semifinalists will partake in a three-part challenge, which tests competitors on cut identification, along with their skills to cut to order and cut beef for retail merchandising. Each competitor will be equipped with Victorinox Swiss Army boning knives, a breaking knife, a cut resistant glove, a steel and a knife roll, to ensure everyone starts on an even playing field. Competitors will receive top marks based on their technique, creativity, presentation and consumer interaction. With culinary influencer/personality Jess Pryles emceeing, top industry professionals and culinary experts will weigh in in each region to determine the top three competitors who will move on to the final round at the Austin Food + Wine Festival on April 29. -

With the pandemic still trekking on, it’s important to keep yourself safe during the spooky season. Taking precautions, like washing your hands and wearing masks, will ensure you stay healthy and well. Many people are debating whether Halloween should be cancelled due to COVID-19. Corporations and businesses that rely on the holiday are hoping to keep the customs alive. Candy manufacturers, costume designers, and even the movie industry all look to Halloween as their big boom in business. The cancellation of Halloween will also impact the kids that see the day as a joy. In an interview with The New York Times, Dr. Gosh said, “I think completely taking away Halloween could be detrimental to some of the mental health issues that kids are facing right now.” Halloween is an outlet for kids to express their creativity and have some fun. This Halloween, the Centers for Disease Control recommend trick-or-treating be minimized and controlled. Wearing masks, gloves, and bringing hand sanitizer is the safest way to still go out, as well as staying six feet apart from other goers and setting candy bags outside to grab quickly. -

The trend began in 1964, when ABC produced the sitcom The Addams Family (1964-66), based on works of cartoonist Charles Addams, and CBS countered with its own The Munsters (CBS, 1964-66) –both satirical inversions of the American ideal sitcom family in which various monsters and freaks from Gothic literature and classic horror films form a family of misfits that somehow thrive in middle-class, suburban America. -

In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas. -
