Among those competing for a spot are two-time World Champions Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford (CAN), two-time World medalists Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani (USA) and Four Continents Champion Nathan Chen (USA). Bridgestone Skate America is the sixth and last event in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series that culminates in the Final. A total of 57 skaters/couples from 9 ISU members compete in Lake Placid. Overview of the top contenders The battle for the last tickets to the Grand Prix Final will be exciting in the Men’s event. More recently, Milan has hosted the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2013 and the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in 1998. 192 Skaters from 43 ISU Members have been entered for the Championships: 37 Men, 37 Ladies, 28 Pairs and 31 Ice Dance couples. Skaters and couples need to have obtained a minimum total technical score in the Short Program and Free Skating in order to compete at the World Championships. The event features 2018 Olympic Champions Alina Zagitova (RUS) and Aljona Savchenko/Bruno Massot (GER) as well as Olympic medalists Shoma Uno (JPN), Kaetlyn Osmond (CAN) and Gabriella Papadakis / Guillaume Cizeron (FRA). PRESS RELEASE November 28, 2013 For information: Allan Gordon Communications Assistant 613.747.1007 ext. 2564 [email protected] Skaters vie for entries to Canadian championships at 2014 Skate Canada Challenge OTTAWA, ON: Approximately 500 skaters will be heading to Regina, Sask., for the 2014 Skate Canada Challenge, taking place from December 4-8, 2013. This year’s event marks the third straight year the event has been hosted at The Co-Operators Centre at Evraz Place. This is the sole qualifying event for novice, junior, and senior skaters to earn berths for the 100th anniversary 2014 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships taking place in Ottawa, Ont., from January 9-15, 2014. In order to qualify for the 2014 Skate Canada Challenge all skaters have advanced through their home sections. The 2014 Skate Canada Challenge will also see the crowning of the 2014 Canadian Pre- Novice Champions in men’s, women’s, pair, and ice dance. National team members and Canadian bronze medallists Paige Lawrence, 23, Kennedy, Sask., and Rudi Swiegers, 26, Kipling, Sask., will represent home section Saskatchewan in the senior pair discipline. Canadian bronze medallist Andrei Rogozine, 20, Richmond Hill, Ont., will be competing in senior men’s. Top Six Figure Skating Teams Get Ready for ISU World Team Trophy
April 13, 2021 Osaka, Japan Top six Figure Skating teams get ready for ISU World Team Trophy 2021 Some of the World’s best Figure Skaters are set to compete at the seventh edition of the ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating from April 15 to 18 in Osaka, Japan. Russia tops the list of the six ISU members that have qualified for the ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating. The ISU World Team Trophy is a biennal event. Overview over the teams Russia collected 9847 points towards the qualification followed by the USA (8001 points) and Japan with 6441 points. The other directly qualified ISU Members are Canada (5580) and Italy (4021). China was qualified with 4537 points but does not send a team allowing France (3905 points) to compete instead. Team Russia features three newly minted ISU World Figure Skating Champions Anna Shcherbakova, Anastasia Mishina/Aleksandr Galliamov and Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov. 2021 ISU World Figure Skating silver medalist Elizaveta Tuktamysheva is the team captain. 2018 ISU World Figure Skating bronze medalist Mikhail Kolyada and Evgeni Semenenko are competing as well. Three-time and reigning ISU World Figure Skating Champion Nathan Chen leads Team USA. The team includes top-ten ISU World competitors Jason Brown, Karen Chen, Bradie Tennell, Alexa Knierim/Brandon Frazier and Kaitlin Hawayek/Jean-Luc Baker. Brown is the team captain. Helsinki hosts the ISU World Figure Skating Championships for the third time after 1999 and 1983. 193 skaters from 36 ISU Members have been entered for the Championships. Skaters/Couples need to have obtained a minimum total technical score in Short Program and Free Skating in order to compete at the World Championships. All four reigning World Champions are back in action. The results of the World Championships will also decide about the majority of quota places for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Evgenia Medvedeva (RUS) takes lead in highly competitive Ladies Short Program World Champion Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia took the first step to defend her title by winning the highly competitive Ladies Short Program. Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond and Gabrielle Daleman are sitting in second and third. Medvedeva had drawn to skate first in the last group. She opened her program to “River Flows In You” with a flying camel spin and the step sequence and then reeled off a rock-solid triple flip- triple toe combination followed by a triple loop and double Axel. The reigning World Champion earned 79.01 points.

Kaetlyn Osmond to skate 8th in women's short program Defending champion Yuna Kim to go 17th CBC Sports, February 17, 2014 Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond performs in the women's figure skating team free program at the Iceberg Skating Palace during the Sochi Winter Olympics on Feb. 9. (Adrian Dennis/AFP/Getty Images) Kaetlyn Osmond of Marystown, N.L., drew the eighth starting position for the women’s figure skating short program at the Sochi 2014 Olympics. Gabrielle Daleman of Newmarket, Ont,. will start third in the field of 30 competitors. Osmond struggled with injuries at the start of the 2013-2014 season, including a hamstring injury that forced the young skater to pull out of the Skate Canada competition in September. Osmond returned to competition for the Skate Canada Challenge in December. During the team competition, Osmond finished fifth in the women’s short program. "I was actually a little bit nervous before it, but to go out and skate a perfect short program at the Olympics is great,” said Osmond of that performance. Yuna Kim of South Korea will start 17th. Kim is the defending Olympic champion, and is the 2013 World Champion. Kim did not skate in the team competition. Rivals for the Olympic title include Russian Julia Lipnitskaia and Mao Asada of Japan. Lipnitskaia will skate 25th, while Asada will be the last athlete to skate. Lipnitskaia helped the Russians win the team figure skating event, thanks to the 15-year- old’s terrific performance. Asada skated the short program to help push the Japanese team to a third-place finish.
