In use since the early 20th century in many armies throughout the world, bicycles allow for silent movement and increased mobility The Bicycle in Wartime: An Illustrated History the battlefield. Additional advantages of military bicycles are that they allow individual soldiers to carry more supplies without being encumbered and are very inexpensive to manufacture and maintain when compared to horses and vehicles. The first bicycles were introduced into the armed forces of several nations in the late 19th century; by the time of the start of World War Iall combatants were using them. The Italian Army 's Bersaglieri mountain troops were the first to use folding bikes. During World War II bicycles were introduced to paratroopers as a means to provide them with transportation following the landing. In the late s and early s, there was a resurgence in the testing of all terrain and folding bikes, for use by infantry in battle and patrolling cities. Some innovations introduced in bicycles designed for military use found The Bicycle in Wartime: An Illustrated History way to civilian markets as well, such as coaster brakes and the cyclometer. In modern times bicycles The Bicycle in Wartime: An Illustrated History electric bicycles are still used by many armies around the world but there are no separate bicycle infantry units. • 1A. Charakteristika Cyklistky a MTB, Historie Cyklistiky a MTB Vývoj Jízdního Kola, Základní Cyklistické Závody a Osobnosti Historie Cyklistiky
1a. 1a1), podobný vůz používali i Egypťané. obr.

BRYANT: My father, Calvin Schofield Bryant, was born on a United Fruit plantation in Tela, Honduras, on the Caribbean coast. His father was Calvin Oak Bryant of Lakeland, Florida; his mother Nellie Schofield of Corozal, Belize, which is a seaside town now considered a great expat relocation destination. Q: What do you know, say, at the grandfather level and the grandmother level? What do you know about that? What they were up to and…? BRYANT: My grandmother was born and raised in Corozal, one of 16 children of Ernest Augustus Henry Schofield and Petronita Novella. • Strategic Surprise from the Bike Trail the Republic of Korea and the Bicycle
COMMENTARY Strategic Surprise from the Bike Trail The Republic of Korea and the Bicycle MAJ RACHAEL NUSSBAUM, USAF Strategic surprise is often a goal of nation-states that are considering engaging in an internationally unpopular course of action. A good strategic surprise, if capitalized upon, can change the course of history. Consider Russia’s “little green men”—by inserting troops without insignia and denying all responsibility for the operation, Russia surprised Ukraine and seized the Crimean region. The world had no response to Russia’s thinly deniable act, and as a result, the region has been plunged into an ongoing crisis, to Russia’s benefit. Nation-states that are not con- sidering initiating unpopular acts but are in areas of the world that have unsettled situations, such as territory claimed by many nations or armed cold conflict, may create plans and develop options that can cause strategic surprise. Such nations, rather than initiating a crisis, may prepare plans and options in hopes that diplo- macy or time will resolve problems or improve their situation. South Korea is a nation in such an area of the world. While the United States, South Korea’s most significant ally, often depends on strategic advantage based on technical innova- tion, such as stealth or precision weapons, as shown by Russia’s employment of little green men, strategic surprise does not require advanced technology. South Korea is building a low-tech system around bicycling that sets the stage for effec- tive strategic surprise in case of a North Korean incursion. Japan used a concept based around bicycling to execute a low-tech strategic surprise early in World War II, while simultaneously attempting a rapid knockout punch at Pearl Harbor with what was then modern tech.

As every personal trainer or fitness expert will tell you, prescribing training is not that simple. Level of fitness, training background, maximum heart rate, history of illness, time available to train and your own expectations are just a few of the factors that need to be considered when starting any training programme. We developed the original Indoor Rowing Training Guide to address all these issues, and ultimately make sure you make the right training decisions. The Indoor Rowing Training Guide, version 2 has built on the success of the first Guide and now includes sections on Nutrition and Diet, Psychological Preparation and has input from many top rowers and coaches. The Indoor Rowing Training Guide, version 2 will help you whether you are training for a race or simply would like to achieve a more healthy lifestyle. Although we can’t anticipate every individual’s requirements we aim to provide information on the basic principles involved in designing training programmes and, by including many and varied examples, guide anyone in constructing an individual programme suited to their own personal needs.
