Sunway-Daiwa JV to Build Pre-Fab Houses in Iskandar Client : Sunway Iskandar Media : Estate123 Insight Section : Online Date : 12 June 2015 Circulation : N/A Headline : Sunway-Daiwa JV to build pre-fab houses in Iskandar Sunway-Daiwa JV to build pre-fab houses in Iskandar Sunway-Daiwa JV to build pre-fab houses in Iskandar Property and construction company Sunway Bhd had joint-ventured with Japan’s top pre-fabricated homebuilder, Daiwa House Industry Co Ltd (DHICL) to build 100 high quality units of pre-fabricated homes in Sunway Iskandar, Johor. This means that the housing structures are produced off-site in a factory before the final fitting onsite, resulting in higher quality homes, reduce foreign labour dependency, shortens delivery time and less environmental pollution. The project in Sunway Iskandar’s Lakeview Precinct has a gross development value of RM210mil, and is expected to be launched in 2016 to attract Malaysians, Singaporeans and Japanese buyers. (The Star Online) FGV buying RM1bil stakes in Indonesian plantation group Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) has been in talks with PT Eagle High’s controlling shareholder Tan Sri Peter Sondakh to acquire some 30% of his equity interest in the Indonesian plantation group, valued at about RM1 billion. PT Eagle High Plantations Tbk is the third largest plantation group listed in Jakarta, and is valued at just over US$1 billion (RM3.74 billion). Sources say the negotiations are in the final stage, with just some minor details to be sorted out before the transaction goes through. (The Malaysian Insider) FGV seeking buyer for N. American assets Insiders have revealed that Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd., the world’s largest producer of crude palm oil, is seeking a buyer for its assets in North America. Bids for its crushing and refining business in the US and Canada could fetch up to $150 million. FGV had earlier announced that it will sell some assets in order to increase its core palm oil plantation business, expand trade and develop new markets. (The Malaysian Reserve) Sunsuria targets RM1bil annual property sales Property developer Sunsuria Bhd is targeting RM1 billion in property sales per year, mainly from its township in Sepang, starting with sales of RM900 million for its financial year ending September 30, 2016. It has changed its financial year end from March to September. Financial year aside, the group’s total launches is estimated to be worth about RM1 billion in the next 12 months, said executive director Kong Wai Seng. (The Sun Daily) Mah Sing: Ringgit’s fall will not affect housing market Property developer Mah Sing Bhd is optimistic that the weakening Ringgit will not affect the housing market, especially in regards to first-time buyers as demand is still strong. The company achieved the highest domestic property sales last year, and is aiming for the same sales figures this year. The group’s residential launches in the next few months include areas like Sungai Buloh, Cheras, and KL South. (Malaysia Chronicle) EPF’s 1MDB investment only RM200 mil Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has said that the Employees Provident Fund’s (EPF) investment in strategic investment fund 1MDB is only limited to RM200 million. In contrast, EPF’s investment in Pembinaan PFI Sdn Bhd totalled RM25 billion, which is guaranteed by lease back from the federal government. EPF’s financing to government-linked companies (GLC) is in the form of fixed rate loans and bonds. This was in reply to a query regarding GLCs who had borrowed from EPF and how the money was used. (The Rakyat Post) Quake in KL possible due to ancient fault lines A geological expert has said that concerns about an earthquake hitting Kuala Lumpur are not misplaced, following the quake tragedy in Sabah last week. The federal capital is located near the epicentres of ancient fault line zones, which seem to have been reactivated by active compressed tectonic plate boundaries. This could be a cause for concern, as many structures in the city are not built to withstand earthquakes. ISKANDAR: Pre-fabricated homes are a rare sight in Malaysia, but all that is set to change with the recent joint venture between Daiwa House Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Sunway Iskandar Sdn Bhd. Daiwa House plans to alter the public’s perception by developing 100 units of high quality pre-fabricated landed homes, located strategically within Sunway Iskandar’s Lakeview Precinct. Sited on a 13-acre plot that Sunway Iskandar transferred to the joint venture company, this project will be adjacent to the pristine 20-acre Emerald Lake. The parcel of land is to be 70% owned by Daiwa House and 30% by Sunway Iskandar with a financial consideration of RM63 million for the development of the homes. The term ‘pre-fabricated’ refers to the process of manufacturing of houses or housing components offsite in a factory environment before final installation onsite. These pre-fabricated housing technologies enable for faster construction and delivery to customers, in addition to consistent product quality and enhanced liveability. Using cutting-edge technologies, the project will consist of bungalows, semi-detached and cluster homes, all safely ensconced in a gated and guarded community. To further enhance the living conditions of its future residents, there will be amenities provided such as a clubhouse, swimming pool, gymnasium, multi-purpose hall, childcare centre and prayer facilities. The project has a gross development value (GDV) of RM210 million and is expected to launch in early 2016, with the handover to customers estimated for mid-2017. Potential homebuyers stand to benefit from the strategic location of this project as Sunway Iskandar is also known as “Nature’s Capital City”. Apart from the lush greenery surrounding Sunway Iskandar, it is located within the heart of Iskandar Malaysia, and is approximately five minutes away from Singapore via the Second Link Expressway. It is also 25 minutes from Senai International Airport and is surrounded by Iskandar Malaysia’s catalytic developments including Legoland Malaysia, Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, EduCity, Kota Iskandar and the International Financial District. According to Sunway Property managing director Sarena Cheah, “This strategic collaboration is in line with Sunway’s vision to integrate world-class liveability in Sunway Iskandar. With Daiwa House’s world- recognised expertise in pre-fabricated technologies, we hope to expand the pre-fabricated housing technologies in Malaysia and to deliver high quality products to our homebuyers in Sunway Iskandar.” As a subsidiary of Japan’s largest pre-fabricated homebuilder and Fortune Global 500 company, Daiwa House Industry Co. Ltd., Daiwa is a pioneer in prefabricated housing in Japan and has been producing more than 550,000 prefabricated homes since 1959. Prior to this, Daiwa has completed a prefabricated house prototype in Sunway Eastwood, Selangor, since the middle of last year. The 3-storey bungalow prototype, with a built-up area of 3,968 sq. ft., was completed from ground up within a short 5 months, utilising local suppliers and contractors. “The homes in Sunway Iskandar will incorporate cutting-edge design features, tapping into Daiwa’s experience in Japan and R&D strengths, such as child-friendly door designs, home energy management systems, as well as game-changing lifestyles for the communities of Sunway Iskandar,” said Daiwa House Malaysia managing director Daisuke Usugi. DOI: 10.1051/ shsconf/20173300052 SHS Web of Conferences 33, 00052 (2017) i-COME'16 Counter-ideological forces of “Mr Gate” in online Journalism in Malaysia: A study of MalaysiaKini and The Malaysian Insider Mohd Faizal Kasmani1,*, Rosidayu Sabran1, Siti Suriani Othman1 and Noor Adzrah Ramle1 1Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Bandar Baru Nilai, 71800, Negeri Sembilan Abstract: The online news media are said to have changed the understanding of the gatekeeping theory. Due to the virtually unlimited news space together with the interactivity in the online presentation of news, the Internet defies the whole conception of gatekeeping in journalism. This article seeks to examine the influence of gatekeeping forces in two influential Malaysian online news portals, MalaysiaKini and The Malaysian Insider (TMI), during the 2013 Malaysian general election. Based on the hierarchical model of news conception, this study assessed the influence of ideological gatekeeping forces on their news content. The reporting by both news portals was subjected to qualitative textual analysis. The results are triangualted with interviews with corresponding reporters and editors from MalaysiaKini and TMI. The findings show that although the reporting of MalaysiaKini and TMI is counter-ideological, the gatekeeping process remains intact. This is due to the speed factor and the requirement of the news portals to abide by the media-related laws in Malaysia. 1 Introduction Gatekeeping theory is one of the most enduring theories in mass communication and has informed the study of journalism for more than 60 years. Derived from the channel metaphor by Lewin [15] , it was first introduced as a mass- communication concept by Manning [17].

  • Scandal, and Its Impact on Malaysian Domestic Politics
POLITIKA: Jurnal Ilmu Politik Vol.11, No. 2, 2020 doi: 10.14710/politika.11.2.2020.198-218 1MDB (1 Malaysia Development Berhad), Scandal, and Its Impact on Malaysian Domestic Politics Ali Maksum Department of International Relations, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Recieved: 11 Desember 2019 Revised: 14 Januari 2020 Published: 20 Oktober 2020 Abstrak: This article examines the publicly discussed 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal and its impact on Malaysian domestic politics. Following this case, Najib Razak as prime minister of Malaysia was under pressure. This is because of the strong allegation of Najib Razak’s involvement in the 1MDB scandal. This issue became public discourse after the widely report made by New York-based media Wall Street Journal concerning Najib’s abuse on the corporate asset. The scandal not only shakes Najib’s political coalition but also indirectly has provoked public distrust against him including from his political Guru, Mahathir Muhammad. Dr Mahathir openly accuses Najib’s behaviour and declare to quit from his longest loyal party, UMNO. Later on, this scenario has created a new political landscape in Malaysia. Therefore, this article attempts to examine the new Malaysian political landscape specifically the relationship of BN and the opposition vis-à-vis Mahathir political alliance. Nevertheless, history has witnessed that in the last election, Pakatan Harapan won the most dramatical election ever since the independence of Malaysia and UMNO-BN has lost the power. Yet, the political scenario surrounding 1MDB scandal and the relationship between UMNO-BN vis-à-vis other parties became one of the stories that always trigger public discourse, even until today.
