Leela: Text to Movie - a Visualization of Critical Creativity
================================================================== Language in India www.languageinindia.com ISSN 1930-2940 Vol. 18:8 August 2018 India’s Higher Education Authority UGC Approved List of Journals Serial Number 49042 ================================================================ Leela: Text to Movie - A Visualization of Critical Creativity Mrs. Devarani B. and Vinu C James, M.Phil. Scholar Courtesy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leela_(2016_film) Abstract It is always a herculean task to transform a literary work into a piece of movie without compromising on the elaborative and imaginary freedom a writer enjoys over a film maker, especially for a post-modern story like ‘Leela’, written by Unni R. ‘Leela’ is a daring attempt by renowned director Ranjith, to explore a story through the psyche of Kuttiyappan, a carefree Christian man with instinctive and manic desires. But for a viewer who has not read the actual story written by Unni R, there is every chance of leaving the theatre with a load of unanswered questions and might even crib about the lack of clarity. The director has managed to visualise the climax sequences without losing the much-needed severity that the script demanded, overshadowing the limitations he must have faced until then in visualizing the original story. The close-up shots of an elephant and Kuttiyappan in the climax reminded of the imposing shots of similar kind from the critically acclaimed French movie Dheepan. The epilogue is one pivotal move that reassures the truth that the power of nature is beyond man’s imagination and even a slight change in its behaviour can ruin all the plans and dreams that men weave, irrespective of their motives. -

Yashwant Intl. Film Festival 2015 Yashwantrao Chavan The birth centenary of Shri Yashwantrao Chavan (1913 - 1984) was celebrated last year in a befitting manner by the Government of Maharashtra and the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, Mumbai. It was an acknowledgement of his stellar contribution as first Chief Minister to the making of modern Maharashtra, as a State with progressive policies and a decentralized democratic set up of administration. In November, 1962, he became the Defence Minister in the aftermath of the India-China conflict. He worked hard to restore the morale of the armed forces and to enhance his strength through modern weapons, better equipment, organisational changes and a harmonious relationship with the armed forces. The efforts paid off in the India- Pakistan conflict in 1965. Subsequently, he held the high offices of Union Home Minister, Union Finance Minister and Foreign Minister of India. In 1979, he became the Deputy Prime Minister of India. He was a freedom fighter, effective parliamentarian and an astute administrator. He was a connoisseur of fine arts, a great lover of books and an author of acknowledged literary merit. He was very fond of watching good films, plays and stage performances of folk-art. The 'Yashwant' International Film Festival is a tribute to the outstanding personay of Yashwantrao Chavan. Yashwant Intl.
