  • Cadet Dinghy
Cadet Dinghy “Viking” Appendix 2 THE CADET SQUADRON In the early 1930's, Cadet Members of the R.G.Y.C. competed in a conglomeration of small craft. Ern Armstrong recalls that when he joined the club in 1933, the cadet section was comprised of the 12 foot cadets, "Firey Cross", owned and sailed by John Boocock, on which Ern sailed for the last three races of the season and "Viking", owned by Tal and Jim Searle, "Tasma", a flat-bottomed ,low wooded hull approximately 14feet long, owned by the Club, "Teddy bear", a half-decked rather heavy boat owned by Geoff Wood, and "Westra", a semi-decked 12 foot cadet, owned by the McAllisters. At that time the boat storage shed was approximately 40 feet by 30 feet fronting the roadway outside the club opposite Transvaal Square, about in line with the eastern end of the present Junior Squadron clubhouse. In about 1935, two 14 foot boats were added to the fleet. These were "Mulluka", owned by Chick Fleet Snr., and sailed by Jim Ritchie and "NV", a 14footer with narrow beam and a high aspect mainsail built and skippered by Norm Wray. And two more 12 foot cadet dinghies were also added to the fleet, "Caress", built and skippered by Bob Curnow and "Dolphin ", owned and skippered by Wally Wiggs. About this time the Cadet section acquired half of the Sea Scout's shed owned by Mr. Ev Hurst, now the tender dinghy storage shed. This move avoided the long lift from the original shed on the roadway.

Upon my election last November, I outlined my intention for World Sailing to communicate better with its Member National Authorities, Regional Associations, Class Associations, Committee members, and the hard-working volunteers that make our sport work, from the grassroots to the peak of performance. I hope that the introduction of these quarterly newsletters will help to achieve that. Open communication within our sport has always been important, but given the current climate, it is more crucial now than it has ever been. It is important that World Sailing takes the lead by sharing best practice, forming new ideas and creating inspiring content that touches all aspects of our sport. It is also vital that this material is well distributed across our community. It is a pity that we have not been able to meet face to face for so long, but I have enjoyed meeting and engaging with you directly and via our Regional Meetings. www.tbyc.org • Edition 5 • April 2011 Spring has finally sprung and we have an abundance of exciting things planned for this year at TBYC! Firstly the Summer Glitter Ball on June 4th has had a huge response, and 170 of you have bought tickets - making it a massive sellout event! So ladies and gentlemen, have your sequins, diamonds and sparkles at the ready for what is guaranteed to be a fantastic night. April will be a busy month, not only for TBYC but also London, with the Royal Wedding on April 29th. We are planning a big Royal Wedding Party on that night with a red, white and blue “Back To The 80's” theme, so don't miss out on one of the biggest parties of the year! Not forgetting the Easter weekend hog roast on Sunday April 24th. Keep your eyes peeled for tickets and ticket discounts for those who buy them for both events. These will be on posters around the club and on the website. Let us know if you have been to any great events elsewhere and would like to see them at TBYC, whether it be a casino night, a cocktail party or beer tasting. Let us know - we would love to have your great ideas! Finally, we are going to start offering a combined ticket booking discount for certain events, like the hog roast and Royal Wedding party, and people who attend the Christmas party will receive a discount on tickets for New Year’s Eve. We hope this will encourage more ticket buying and bookings! Kylie Hello, I would like to introduce myself to you.

  • Vyc Yardsticks
Yachting Victoria Inc ABN 26 176 852 642 2 / 77 Beach Road SANDRINGHAM VIC 3191 Tel 03 9597 0066 Fax 03 9598 7384 YACHTING VICTORIA YARDSTICKS - 2013-14 Date: 1st Oct 2013 Version: 1.0 INTRODUCTION These yardsticks are prepared to provide the fairest possible calculation of results for mixed fleet racing. New and modified classes appear every year and it is important to gather information and review results as quickly as possible. For dinghy classes there have been no changes to the original Yardsticks published for the 2013/14 season, as results for review have not been forthcoming. In the absence of race results data for dinghy classes and new internationally sourced classes, where there is yardstick data from overseas available, a comparison is made with other international classes to derive an equivalent Yachting Victoria yardstick value. This is explained further down in this document. Fortunately for catamaran classes, there has been significant work done by the Kurnell Catamaran Club in reviewing various catamaran ratings, as well as validating the ratings against the international SCHRS system. This work has now been incorporated into the YV yardsticks for catamaran classes. Much appreciation goes to KCC for this good work. Catamaran yardsticks are now contained in a separate document: “YV - Cat Yardsticks13_14 v1.0” USE OF THE YV YARDSTICKS A club which intends to run a race or event under the Yachting Victoria Yardstick system should include in the Notice of Race and in the Sailing Instructions clauses based on the following: 1 The version of the YV Yardstick System that is to be used in calculating the mixed class fleet racing results.
