Volume XVI Issue 3 The Bulletin Mar 2019 MARCH LUNCHEON SPEAKER ith the environment in and around Luncheon WWashington D.C. seemingly in a 21 Mar 2019 continuing state of disruption and uncertainty, the outlook for required levels of funding for the Armed Forces seems precarious. What changes are coming for national security policy? Will the active duty forces see increases in TRICARE premiums and other benefits? Will past promises for earned entitlements made to retirees be honored? How do politics and economics impact the direction of change? What evidence is there, if any, that the new congress will treat the nation’s fighting forces with fairness and compassion? The view from the national MOAA headquarters building across the Potomac River in Alexandria, might be instructive. CDR John Chernoski, USNR (RET)

So it was an interesting experience for a California native to put chains on the tires and drive around exploring a late fall wonderland. During the week it was kind of a tradition to visit what later became known as a fast food restaurant on post and infrequently head down the highway to sample some very good fried chicken at a restaurant operated by one Colonel Sanders, a small place destined to grow into a worldwide chain. Classroom instruction, which operated eight hours a day, could become tedious; however, the field studies were much more interesting. Going to the tank range and firing the 90mm main gun rounds at a moving target was challenging; riding a tank through a canyon clutching a .50 caliber machine gun and being faced with the task of firing on and hopefully hitting a rising weather balloon was even more so. All the young lieutenants had a chance to become familiar with armored vehicles, and driving a tank over a tough course took a lot of skill.
