Introduction Crystal Violet is the monochloride salt of crystal violet cation, a triarylmethane dye. Crystal violet is used as a histological stain and in Gram's method of classifying bacteria. It has antibacterial, antifungal, and anthelmintic properties and was used as a topical antiseptic. It has also been used for dying wood, silk, and paper.
