After last month’s bumper issue, we thought this month would be a doddle, but what with assorted internet problems, cancelled gigs and a near miss with floodwater it’s a wonder it’s here at all. Suffice to say, the sooner humanity abandons modern technology and returns to potato printing and carrier pigeons the sooner we shall start feeling at home in the world. Preferably a world where it never rains and singers never lose their voices. Is that really too much to ask? Last month’s feature on the closure of regional venues has provoked quite a reaction and it’s good to hear from people who are making the effort to start promoting live music around the county. Hopefully music fans out there will support them as much as they can. Foals 2019-01-22 13:53 CET Foals släpper dubbla album under 2019 – Första singeln ”Exits” ute nu! Den 8 mars släpper brittiska Foals det första av två kommande album 2019; ”Everything not saved will be lost – Part 1”. Part 2 släpps senare under hösten 2019. Den första låten från det nya albumet; ”Exits” är redan släppt. “They’re two halves of the same locket,” säger frontmannen Yannis Philippakis. “They can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally, they are companion pieces.” Efter drygt tio år sen starten har medlemmarna Yannis Philippakis (frontman), JimmySmith (gitarr), JackBevan (trummor), EdwinCongreave (keyboard) och WalterGervers (bassist) skapat två fullängdsalbum under 2019 ”Everything not saved will be lost – Part 1” och “Everything not saved will be lost – Part 2”. Den första singeln från albumet ”Exits” förkroppsligar temat för de två kommande albumen, i fokus står en desorienterad värld som ackompanjeras av melodiösa textrader. “There's a definite idea about the world being no longer habitable in the way that it was,” fortsätter Yannis. “A kind of perilousness lack of predictability and a feeling of being overwhelmed by the magnitudes of the problems we face. What's the response? And what’s the purpose of any response that one individual can have?” “Lyrically, there are resonances with what's going on in the world at the moment,” sammanfattar Yannis.

By ZEKE MILLER ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON — After months of insisting that the Republican National Convention go off as scheduled despite the pandemic, President Donald Trump is slowly coming to accept that the late August event will not be the four-night infomercial for his reelection that he had anticipated. After a venue change, spiking coro- navirus cases and a sharp recession, Trump aides and allies are increasingly questioning whether it’s worth the trouble, and some are advocating that the convention be scrapped altogether. Conventions are meant to lay out a candidate’s vision for the coming four years, not spark months of intrigue over the health and safety of attendees, they have argued. Ultimately, the decision on whether to move forward will be Trump’s alone. Already the 2020 event has seen a venue change –- to more Trump-friendly territory in Jacksonville, Florida, from Charlotte, North Carolina — and it has been drastically reduced in scope. For technical reasons, the convention will be unable to formally adopt a new party platform. And what is normally a high- light of the convention — the roll call of the states to renominate the president — is set to be conducted through proxy votes in the original host city.
