MEDIA RELEASE: Sunday January 29, 2017 SKY NEWS ON THE ROAD IN 2017 What matters to you, matters to us SKY NEWS today announced it will hit the road in 2017 with its flagship programs First Edition, AM Agenda, PM Agenda, Speers Tonight and Paul Murray LIVE criss-crossing the country each month broadcasting LIVE from suburban and regional communities. Throughout the year SKY NEWS will air close to 100 special LIVE outside broadcasts from more than 25 locations across the country starting with Morwell in Victoria, the Sunshine Coast in QLD and then WA. Australian News Channel CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said: “SKY NEWS is committed to the coverage of the news that matters to all Australians. This initiative is one of the largest programming commitments in our history and will see five of our leading national affairs programs and their anchors on the road each month uncovering the issues facing the suburbs and regions across Australia.” PAUL MURRAY LIVE ‘ON THE ROAD’ In 2016 Paul Murray took the Federal Election to the people, broadcasting LIVE during the campaign from 16 regional locations across the country. In 2017, Paul continues his journey to tell the stories of local heroes and highlight the ground level concerns of the country communities he visits. Paul said: “Hitting the road like this is the best part of my job - to hear what people are saying and send it all over the country. This year, we’ll do that more than we ever have. I can’t wait to say G’day to as many people as we can.” Joined by SKY NEWS Political Reporter for the People Caroline Marcus, Paul kicked off his roadshow in the lead up to Australia Day LIVE from Manilla and Tamworth in NSW. His next stop will be the Sunshine Coast in QLD on Thursday February 23. Paul Murray LIVE will broadcast LIVE from the Maroochy RSL from 9:00pm (AEDT) with local people encouraged to be part of the audience by registering to [email protected] SKY NEWS LIVE ‘THE PEOPLE’S AGENDA’ Flagship programs First Edition and AM Agenda anchored by SKY NEWS Chief Political Reporter Kieran Gilbert, and PM Agenda anchored by SKY NEWS Political Editor David Speers will head out of Canberra each month to better inform the SKY NEWS audience of the issues and challenges facing our towns and suburbs. The first SKY NEWS LIVE ‘The People’s Agenda’ broadcast will be from Morwell Victoria, with the week-long coverage commencing Monday January 30. Kieran Gilbert said: “Global trends of falling support for major political parties, including in our recent election, shows that there is a growing divide between what mainstream politicians think people want and what people really want. For me this initiative is about listening to the diverse range of Australian voices, particularly those who we don’t normally have a chance to hear from, on issues that matter to them.” A special edition of Speers Tonight will see David Speers host a community roundtable where SKY NEWS viewers will hear directly from voters as to what their policy priorities are, the challenges their communities are facing and explore whether the messages coming out of Canberra are resonating. David Speers said: “Not all wisdom resides with the usual opinion makers. While plenty of politicians and commentators think they know what Australians are thinking, I’m looking forward to hearing directly from those who are too often ignored. It's about 1:25 in the Eastern States, and Richard and I are coming to you from Adelaide and Geelong. We've all just seen that rather heart- wrenching press conference from the Goodchild family, and, Richard, you can't help but be moved by listening and hearing and seeing that particular press conference? RICHARD MARLES: Oh, that's absolutely right. It's - um, you cannot imagine being in their circumstances. And it is a tragedy which has really touched everyone and I think it is the idea that, at a place which is meant to provide enjoyment, you know, that whole family got on that ride to begin with, were expecting to have fun and, of course, it ends in that terrible way, and not to say anything about what, obviously, other family members saw. But, yeah, your heart absolutely breaks for - for that family today. CHRISTOPHER PYNE: Yes, no doubt. I mean a very Australian pastime to be at Dreamworld, enjoying a holiday – a family holiday. We've all done it, we all love to take it easy with our kids and our extended family, so I think the whole country has gone into a deep sense of mourning for that - those particular victims.

    Response to the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts’ Issues Paper, Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Sector Review Tuesday, 7 September 2010 INTRODUCTION This paper is written in response to the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts’ (DEWHA) Issues Paper, Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Sector Review (the Review). The structure of FOXTEL’s response is as follows: 1. Overview of FOXTEL’s business and reconciliation activity 2. Relevant background including: - The rise of the digital economy - Indigenous broadcasting and the digital economy 3. Policy recommendations re NITV including covering: - Importance of independence, certainty and adequate funding for NITV - Free to air broadcast of NITV and the Digital Dividend - Training and skills development For further information on this submission, please contact: Mr Adam Suckling Director, Policy & Corporate Affairs FOXTEL E: [email protected] P: 02 9813 6140 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The rise of the digital economy – including lower production and distribution costs, increased consumer empowerment and the demand for greater channel choice – mean that it is more economically feasible to produce and distribute channels such as NITV, and also to find audiences who are interested in programming such as NITV’s, than it ever has been. While such developments in the digital economy make it possible to provide, and find audiences for a channel such as NITV, there are also political, cultural and social reasons why NITV should continue to be funded on a sustainable basis and maintain an independent editorial voice and governance: Cultural – Indigenous Australians have over 40,000 years of cultural development as well as distinct and multiple perspectives on contemporary Australia.
