The leading criteria for sustainable tourism in protected areas empha - size the importance of the adoption of certain principles of care, long -term planning and management that integrates nature protection and tourism. In this respect, the paper analyzes their importance in the case of Special Nature Reserve »Gornje Podunavlje« in Vojvodina. After acquiring the status of a special nature reserve, talk about the importance of this area to the tourism of Sombor and Apatin, where it is located, has increased. Such areas consist mainly of mosaic ecosystems, highly sensitive to all natural changes, espe- cially to those of anthropogenic origin. Special nature reserve “Gornje Podunavlje” is one of the larg- est and most important wetland habitats in this part of Europe. The area is under protection, but for centuries it has been influenced by numerous economic activities. The institutions for nature protec- tion and protected area management face numerous challenges regarding this issue. The paper focus- es on the research of the landscape changes in “Gornje Podunavlje” and its surroundings. • Sustainable Tourism As Development Perspective In
BULETINUL Vol. LXI Seria 1 - 8 Universităţii Petrol – Gaze din Ploieşti No. 1/2009 Ştiinţe Economice Tourist Potentiality in the Rural Areas in Vojvodina – North Serbia1 Predrag Vuković, Nataša Kljajić, Nada Mijajlović Institute of Agriculture Economics, Belgrade, Volgina 15, 11060 Belgrade, Serbia e-mail: [email protected] Abstract Since the end of the last century the mass tourism and its concept have reached culmination. General tendencies are focused on the tourist development towards new directions in the domain of particular needs. Future touristic development should be based on the various rural areas. Pollution, allienation from the natural environment, standardization are only a few concepts of ordinary life influencing a lot of people to turn back towards nature and the healthy way of living. Vojvodina is situated on the north part of Serbia, belonging to the Panonian area. Natural and geographical benefits offer good possibilities for investing and development. • The Danube in Serbia – Ecological Status and Management Issues
Transylv. Rev. Syst. Ecol. Res. 12, (2011), "The Wetlands Diversity" 91 THE DANUBE IN SERBIA – ECOLOGICAL STATUS AND MANAGEMENT ISSUES Ana BORISAVLJEVIC * * University of Belgrade, Faculty of Forestry, Kneza Viseslava 1, Belgrade, Serbia, CS-11030, [email protected], [email protected] KEYWORDS: flora, fauna, ecological status, bioindicators, hydromorphological alterations, management, Danube. ABSTRACT Many stretches of the river Danube have lost their ecological value in recent decades as a result of anthropogenic pressure from intensive agriculture, new infrastructure projects, more intensive navigation and the construction of hydro-power plants. The greatest alterations have happened in recent decades also in the investigation area, which is a part of the Middle Danube, from 1,433 to 845 km, and extends into Serbia. The content of this review paper is based on the analysis and use of topographical maps, data on waterline and discharges for five hydrological stations on the Danube in Serbia, analysis of the floral and faunal bioindicators, and a review of relevant literature. We describe indications of ecosystem alterations, following which we offer discussion on management issues, and make recommendations and comments. This paper synthesizes existing knowledge on the Danube in Serbia and, at the same time, warns of proposals that can become real projects that may have extreme adverse consequences for the Danube ecosystem.

MINISTRY OF ENVIRONmeNT AND SPATIAL PLANNING BIODIVERSITY STRATEGY OF THE RePUBLIC OF SeRBIA FOR THE PERIOD 2011 – 2018 Belgrade, 2011. IMPRINT Title of the publication: Biodiversity Strategy of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2011 – 2018 Publisher: Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Belgrade For Publisher: Oliver Dulic, MD Editors: Prof. Ivica Radovic, PhD Milena Kozomara, MA Photography: Boris Erg, Sergej Ivanov and Predrag Mirkovic Design: Coba&associates Printed on Recycled paper in “PUBLIKUM”, Belgrade February 2011 200 copies ISBN 978-86-87159-04-4 FOR EWORD “Because of the items that satisfy his fleeting greed, he destroys large plants that protect the soil everywhere, quickly leading to the infertility of the soil he inhabits and causing springs to dry up, removing animals that relied on this nature for their food and resulting in large areas of the once very fertile earth that were largely inhabited in every respect, being now barren, infertile, uninhabitable, deserted. One could say that he is destined, after making the earth uninhabitable, to destroy himself” Jean Baptiste Lamarck (Zoological Philosophy, 1809). Two centuries after Lamarck recorded these thoughts, it is as if we were only a step away from fulfilling his alarming prophecy. Today, unfortunately, it is possible to state that man’s influence over the environment has never been as intensive, extensive or far-reaching. The explosive, exponential growth of the world’s population, coupled with a rapid depletion of natural resources and incessant accumulation of various pollutants, provides a dramatic warning of the severity of the situation at the beginning of the third millennium.

  • Tourism Potential of Serbian Protected Areas Dear Reader
ATLAS OF TOURISM POTENTIAL OF SERBIAN PROTECTED AREAS Dear reader, Serbia’s protected areas, the jewels of the country, contain nu- merous wonders of nature. A variety of rare, endangered animal and plant species can be observed in their natural habitat. Desi- gnating protected areas allows the provision of safe harbours for these species and ecosystems, which in many cases are unique. And promoting nature-respecting tourism and recreation in the- se areas not only allows visitors to explore these wonders, but also contributes to the livelihood of the people and communities who have lived in and shaped those landscapes over centuries. It is UNDP’s ambition, together with the authorities and people of Serbia, to support tourism and recreation in protected areas, so that you can explore their treasures. Hiking, bird watching, sport fishing, camping, but also adventurous activities, such as mountain biking, canyoning, paragliding or rafting, offer multiple opportunities for spending high quality time outdoors. Tourism infrastructure – like visitor centres, educational signalization, ob- servation towers and walking trails – are currently being built in all the protected areas to facilitate and guide visitors in exploring the nature, while enhancing the understanding and willingness to protect their unique character and inherent, rare species. I hope this “Atlas of Tourism Potential of Serbian Protected Are- as” will inspire you, guide you to remote corners of Serbia, and wake your curiosity to explore some of the most beautiful sides of this country. I would like to use the opportunity express my gratitude to the protected area managers for their valuable con- tribution in preparing it.
