The Capitals are 3-0-1 this season when Carlson records a point, and Carlson is tied with Alex Ovechkin with four multi- point games this season. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Carlson's 88 points (18g, 59a) leads all defensemen. Carlson's 1.45 points per five-on-five play over the course of his career ranks third among defensemen selected in the 2008 draft (: 1.91 points per; : 1.47 points per).

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Great 8 - Alex Ovechkin notched his second multi-goal game of the season (and 122nd of his career) on Wednesday against the New York Rangers. Ovechkin scored both goals on the man advantage to tie former Capitals forward and Hockey Hall of Famer Dino Ciccarelli for ninth place on the NHL’s all-time power-play goals list. Ovechkin’s 122 multi-goal outings in the regular-season are 42 more than the next-closest active NHL player (: 80) and place him in a tie with Mark Messier for the 13th-most in League history. The seven-time Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner sits five such outings from entering the top-10 all time, trailing (12th; 124), Ciccarelli (11th; 125), Jaromir Jagr (t-10th; 127) and (t-10th; 127). (189) holds the NHL record. In 1,009 NHL games, Alex Ovechkin has scored 613 goals and on 128 different . This season, Ovechkin leads the Caps with six goals and is tied for fifth in the NHL. Since joining the Capitals during the 2005-06 season, Ovechkin has led the Capitals in goals in each season (co-led in 2016-17 with T.J. Oshie, 33 goals each). With 613 career goals, which ranks 17th all-time, Ovechkin sits 13 goals shy of passing and (625) for 15th place on the all-time goals list. In 2017-18 he led the NHL in goals for the seventh time, finishing with 49, and he’s tied with Bobby Hull for the most times a single player has led the NHL in goals in a season. Ovechkin, the NHL’s active leader in goals as well as the Capitals franchise leader, is the only player in NHL history to win a , an , a , a , a Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and a . Last season Ovechkin became the 20th player in history - and fourth fastest - to reach 600 goals. Among the top 20 goal scorers all-time, Ovechkin's 0.61 goals per game ranks second (: 0.75 goals per game). Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL's all-time record for goals scored (894) and has played 478 more games than Ovechkin. Should Ovechkin play in 478 more games and maintain his 0.61 goals per game rate, Ovechkin is on a 903-goal pace.

Swede Nicky - Nicklas Backstrom, currently the franchise leader in assists, sits two assists shy of 600 career assists. Backstrom would become the first player from the 2006 NHL Draft class to reach the 600 assist mark, and he currently has 130 more assists than , who has the second-most assists from the 2006 NHL Draft class. Backstrom could become the 87th player in NHL history to reach the 600 assist mark and, according to NHL Stats, the 27th player in NHL history to reach the mark in fewer than 850 games. Additionally, Backstrom will become the ninth Swedish-born player and the second-fastest Swede to reach the mark ( reached 600 assists in 670 games). Since his first NHL season in 2007-08, Backstrom ranks second in assists, only trailing (600). In the season opener this year against the , Backstrom recorded three assists and reached the 800 career point mark. Backstrom became just the third player in franchise history to record 800 career points in a Capitals sweater (Alex Ovechkin: 1,124; : 825). Backstrom leads the Caps with eight assists this season, which is tied for third in the NHL, and six of them have been primary assists.

Kuz Control – Evgeny Kuznetsov's 10 points (4g, 6a) leads the Capitals this season and is tied for the eighth most in the NHL. All four of Kuznetsov's goals have come on the power play this season, three shy from his career high of seven power play goals set during the 2017-18 season. In his last 57 games, including the regular season and playoffs, Kuznetsov has recorded 76 points (29g, 47a). Over a full 82-game regular season, that equates to 109 points. During that span, Kuznetsov has recorded 21 multi-point efforts, including four four-point games. Kuznetsov has 273 points (83g, 190a) in 345 career games, and his 0.79 points per game ranks fifth among all players selected in the 2010 NHL Draft. Additionally, Kuznetsov's 0.55 assists per game leads all forwards selected in the 2010 NHL Draft.

All That Power - Through the first six games of the season, the Capitals are 9 for 23 on the power play, and their 39.1 percent success rate ranks second in the NHL, and their nine power play goals are tied for first the NHL. Evgeny Kuznetsov leads the Capitals with four power play goals and is tied for first in the NHL, while Nicklas Backstrom and John Carlson are both tied for first in the NHL in power play points (both with 1g, 5a). The Capitals hold a 3-1-0 record when they score at least one power play goal, and they've scored a power play goal in four of their six games this season. Since the 2009-10 season, the Capitals' 22.6 cumulative power play percentage (514 goals on 2,278 opportunities) ranks first, 2.1 percentage points higher than the , who rank second. Ovechkin's 232 career power play goals rank first among active players, 66 more goals than Patrick Marleau in 573 fewer games, who ranks second among active players. Additionally, Backstrom's 271 career power play assists ranks third among active players.

Punishing the Panthers - The Capitals have earned a point in 17 of their last 22 games against the Panthers (15-5-2). Alex Ovechkin has earned 76 points (36g, 40a) in 60 career games against the Panthers, marking the fourth-most points he has earned against an NHL franchise (Winnipeg: 91, Carolina: 85, Tampa Bay: 85). Nicklas Backstrom has earned 47 points (11g, 36a) in 48 career games against Florida.

Additional Capitals Notes Holtbeast - Braden Holtby has posted a 10-2-1 record in 13 career games against the Panthers with a 2.36 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. Last season against the Atlantic Division, Holtby recorded a 10-3-1 record with a 2.62 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Only Boston Bruins goaltender , who plays in the Atlantic Division, has more wins against the Atlantic Division than Holtby over the last five seasons (Rask: 58, Holtby: 52).

Nisky Business - Matt Niskanen scored the game-winning goal in against the New York Rangers. That marked Niskanen's second career overtime goal (both with Washington) and marked the 21st time in franchise history a defenseman scored a goal in overtime. Niskanen is one of four defensemen in franchise history to record at least two overtime goals (Mike Green: 8g; John Carlson: 2g; : 2g).

Laying it on the Line - This season, Orpik ranks first on the Capitals in hits (19) and sixth in blocked shots (6). Since Orpik entered the NHL in the 2002-03 season, Orpik ranks first in hits (2,836) and third in blocked shots (1,720) among NHL defensemen through games played Oct. 17.

Young V - Jakub Vrana played in his 100th NHL/Capitals game on Wednesday against the New York Rangers. Through the first six games of the season, Vrana's 51.65 attempts percentage (94 shot attempts for, 88 against) at five-on-five ranks first among Capitals forwards. Last season, Vrana recorded 27 points (13g, 14a) in 73 games and became the first Capitals rookie to record double digit goals since Alex Ovechkin in 2005-06 (52 goals). Vrana added another eight points (3g, 5a) during the run, including a three point (1g, 2a) in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal against Pittsburgh and a goal in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against Vegas.
