2010-06-02 13:14 CEST The Baltic Sea Award 2010 to Cruise Baltic The Baltic Sea Award 2010 goes to Cruise Baltic, a network of 27 cruise destinations in the Baltic Sea uniting ten countries. The winner was announced yesterday by Director General and CEO Hans Skov Christensen on behalf of the Confederation of Danish Industry and the Danish Industry Foundation at the ongoing Baltic Development Forum Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Baltic Sea Award is assigned to an individual or organisation that has made an extraordinary contribution to the development of the Baltic Sea Region. Cruise Baltic aims to increase the number of cruise ship passengers to the Baltic Sea Region. By joint action of cities, ports and companies that in reality are competitors, Cruise Baltic brands and develops the Baltic Sea Region as one single destination to the benefit of all participants. “Cruise Baltic has shown to the region and the world that it is possible to reach results in our region, when we co-operate. The cruise business is booming and Cruise Baltic has demonstrated that it is possible to develop a sustainable business model in a project that originates as an EU-financed project. Cruise Baltic serves as an example to follow within a region with a big potential“, Hans Skov Christensen said during the award ceremony. Cruise Baltic Director, Bo Larsen said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition and I am proud to accept the Award on behalf of our 45 partners; and also our two commercial partners Scandinavian Airlines and Scandic Hotels, whose co-operation is integral to our success. This prize is yet another endorsement, which proves we have a unique product proposition, as well as a joint co-operation second to none in the Baltic Sea Region.” The 2010 jury was composed of Hans Skov Christensen, Andrius Kubilius, Prime Minister of Lithuania, and Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, Chairman of Baltic Development Forum.
