Dumervil’s 2005 season will go down as the finest ever for a Cardinal. A native of Miami, Fla., Dumervil played sparingly as a freshman in 2002 before playing in all 13 games as a sophomore in 2003. He recorded 28 tackles and two sacks, but seemed to always make plays when inserted into the lineup. The 2004 season was his best to that point in his career, recording 52 tackles and leading the team with 10 sacks. However, no one could’ve forecasted the success Dumervil would achieve in 2005. Dumervil set an NCAA record in the first game that season, recording six sacks in a 31- 24 win over Kentucky. He followed that performance with three more sacks against Oregon State to set another record for sacks in consecutive games with nine. He went on to terrorize the opposition for 20 sacks and 10 forced fumbles, both of which led the nation and were school and league records. He guided the Cardinals to a 9-3 record and was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. At the end of his senior season, Dumervil was tabbed the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player. Dumervil was drafted in the fourth round by the Denver Broncos. Dumervil’s Career Defensive Statistics Defense Year GP UT AT TT TFL Sacks FR FF Int.
