Even his former band mate from the Beatles, John Lennon, had mocked McCartney’s preoccupation 10:45 am with “silly love songs.” McCartney promptly answered with the words Sunday Worship and music that would become the most popular song of the year. The song is anything but silly. MINISTERS The Congregation As Christians, we sing a lot of songs about love too. None of them are silly either. We sing traditional hymns like “Love Divine, All Loves Ex- STAFF celling.” We enjoy old-time gospel favorites like “Love Lifted Me.” At Pastor Christmas, choirs bless us with such anthems as “Love Came Down at Stuart Noell Christmas.” We are drawn to the Cross by choruses like “O How He [email protected] Loves You and Me.” The younger generation loves upbeat contemporary Minister of Visitation Christian hits like “How He Loves” and “Your Love Never Fails.” We Harold Shives (336) 434-6348 have songs about love that relate to every style, tempo and age group. But more important than the variety of songs we sing is the reason Director of Youth & Children’s Ministries that we sing. We sing because we have experienced God’s love deep down Kevin Teater in our hearts. We know that God’s love has been expressed most of all in [email protected] the person of Jesus Christ. In February, we always think about love! This February I was inspired by a coworker (that also goes to this church) when she told me she was doing “random acts of kindness” on her birthday – 1 for each year of her life. What a wonderful idea! I thought that this February I would challenge you to do 14 random acts of kindness for Valentine’s Day. You do not have to do them all on Valentine’s Day. Here are some ideas to get you started! Some of these ideas came from www .helpothers.org and www.daretobeanangel.com. 1. When you go out to eat, buy a sandwich for a homeless person on the street. 2. Call your parents, siblings, or anyone and tell them you love them. 3. Write a handwritten note or email someone to tell them you appreciate them. 4. Buy extra food for COAT when you go to the grocery store. 5. Instead of just thinking it, compliment someone. 6. Make extra food and take your neighbor dinner. 7. Visit a senior center or nursing home. 8. Pick up trash. 9. Take clothes, blankets, etc. to a local shelter like COAT or Ward Street Mission. 10. Donate books to an elementary school for a needy child. 11. Visit an animal shelter and play with the dogs! 12. Serve dinner at the Open Door Ministry. 13. Mentor a local youth for Communities in Schools or read to a child. 14. Pay for the person behind you at the drive-thru. 15. Give a snack or some water to the mailman, garbage collector, etc. 16. Give your waiter or waitress a huge tip. 17. Rake or mow someone’s yard. 18. Hold the elevator or door for someone, or let someone get in line in front of you. 19. Leave an uplifting book or a coloring book and crayons in a hospital waiting room. 20. Practice patience. Refrain from gossiping; speak well of others. Be cheerful! 21. Babysit for a single parent. 22. Run an errand for someone. 23. Invite someone who is alone over for dinner. 24. Donate blood. 25. Take cookies to Fire Department or the Police Department. 26. Pick up or take down your neighbor’s trash cans. 27. Make a list of people with needs and pray for them. 28. Invite someone to church! I am sure by now your imagination is going strong, and you can think of many ways to make this February a beauti- ful month! You can do 14 random acts of kindness without spending a penny. I highlighted ideas that do not cost any- thing or require you to go anywhere. Invite 14 people to church, and you have done it! You can do this regardless of your age. Take a cookie to a coworker. Smile and say good morning to someone. Mix and match for 14 acts, and you have made the world a better place. You are also spreading the love of God to the world that needs Him. Remember, when you say, “I love you,” LOVE is a verb, which requires an action. Of course, if you are helping others, remember to help yourself – come to church! I will see you there. Keep the Faith! Maintaining security in any church building is a challenging situation. True to who we are as a church, we desire to allow access to everyone for our church activities. At the same time, as stewards of what God has entrusted to our care, we must make every attempt to pro- tect our facilities and its contents. With these considerations in mind, we offer this church key policy. Church keys will be issued to: The pastor and all church staff. All church officers. Each committee chairperson. Each ministry team leader. Community organizations that use our facilities. Local vendors who need access to the buildings on a regular basis. Opening and closing crew members for their assigned month. We realize that other members of our church family may need a church key for a variety of reasons. The board of trustees will gladly consider each of these requests on an individual basis and make every effort to accommodate these needs.
