  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: David Wells Dwells@Corner103
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: David Wells [email protected] 443-299-9894 Lloyd Davis to open Corner 103 as a unique wine tasting experience High-end, seated, educational tastings coming to Sonoma Plaza starting April 20 SONOMA – Former owner of Viansa Winery, Lloyd Davis, plans to open Corner 103, a Sonoma Tasting Experience, located at 103 West Napa Street, Sonoma California on April 20, 2015. Over a year since selling Viansa, Lloyd has decided to start his own wine brand and open a tasting room on the historic Sonoma Plaza. Lloyd took control of Viansa Winery in 2008 and is credited with its successful operational and financial turnaround. During his leadership, Viansa wines won over 400 wine competition medals, many for “Best in Class.” Viansa became known as a “must visit” when coming to Sonoma wine country. Turning his eyes to building his own wine brand from the ground up and recognizing that most people are intimidated by wine, Lloyd is establishing Corner 103, which draws its name from the location and address of the tasting room. Corner 103 is all about creating a unique experience where wine is explored and discussed in a relaxed and fun environment. Guests will taste seven wines in a seated environment designed for wine tasting. There will be no more than 10 guests at a time. Each limited production wine will come from a different AVA of Sonoma County that showcases the varietal as well as the AVA. There will be a Rose Sparkling wine from Carneros, a Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast, a Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley, a Merlot from Alexander Valley, a Red Blend from various Sonoma AVA’s, a Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley, a Cabernet Sauvignon form Sonoma Valley, and a Petit Verdot (wine club exclusive) from Rockpile.

The regulations are particularly severe for wine and include various aspects of the viticulture practices and winemaking techniques. Nevertheless, the use of phenolic profiles for quality control is still fragmented and incomplete, even if they are a promising tool for quality evaluation. Only a few methods have been already validated and widely applied, and an integrated approach is in fact still missing because of the complex dependence of the chemical profile of wine on many viticultural and enological factors, which have not been clarified yet. For example, there is a lack of studies about the phenolic composition in relation to the wine authenticity of white and especially rosé wines. This review is a bibliographic account on the approaches based on phenolic species that have been developed for the evaluation of wine quality and frauds, from the grape varieties (of V.

  • 2000 Joullian Chardonnay-Monterey
―――――――――――――WINEMAKER’S NOTES――――――――――――― 2015 ZINFANDEL ● CARMEL VALLEY ESTATE In 1984 Joullian planted some of Carmel Valley’s first Zinfandel vines. We began with a non-heat-treated Amador County clone selected by Dr. Bioletti in 1917, and have since added pre-prohibition vineyard selections from Lytton Springs, Brandlin (Mt.Veeder), St. Peter’s Church (Cloverdale) and Primitivo-3 (Puglia, Italy). For complexity, we also have small amounts of Petite Sirah (Lytton Springs), plus our Italian field crush varieties: Aleatico, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane and Black Grenache. Joullian’s multi-clonal approach in the vineyard continues to reap multidimensional benefits in the winery. 2015 featured several weeks of 90-95°F heat in late September, early October, so we carefully culled sunburned and raisined fruit in the field, resulting in 40% less tonnage but the final Zin blend is full of perfumed rich black fruit, silky tannins and thanks to a dollop of Cabernet, refreshing acidity. TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Varietal Content: 90% Zinfandel 5% Primitivo 3% Petit Sirah 2% (0.5% each) Aleatico, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane, Grenache Appellation/AVA: 100% Joullian Estate, Carmel Valley Harvest Dates: September 24, 2015 Sugar at Harvest: 26.2° Brix Fermentation: Primary and malolactic fermentation completed in 19 days Barrel Aging: 18 months in new and used French oak barrels Alcohol: 14.5% Total Acidity/pH: 7.7 g/L; 3.79 Residual Sugar: Off-dry (0.6%) Total Production: 473 cases (750ml), 17 cases (1.5L), 79 bottles (3.0L) Release Date: May 2019 TASTING NOTES: The wines dark cherry color, with a light garnet rim. Aromatic rose petal, blackberry, cola, and licorice scents are enhanced by a touch of cedar and black peppercorn.

  • Characterization of Wines Produced from Fungus Resistant Grapes
Characterization of Wines Produced from Fungus Resistant Grapes Claudia Koraimanna, Erich Leitnera, Uwe Oppermannb a Graz University of Technology, [email protected], Graz, Austria b Shimadzu Europe GmbH, [email protected], Duisburg, Germany Introduction The vineyards of the Styrian wine region are located in the southern part of Austria close to the Slovenian border covering approximately 4.500 hectares. Predominantly steep slopes are cultivated with inclinations up to 60%. This area is a classical cool-climate region with an average annual temperature of 10.5°C and precipitation of approximately 1.000 mm per year. Main rainfall months are especially May, June, July & ,August and September in which 55 to 70% of the annual precipitation falls. The mechanical management of the steep slopes is difficult and quite dangerous, too. The establishment of fungus- resistant grape varietals can clearly reduce plant protection efforts and also brings economic advantages. First experiments with fungus resistant grape varieties date back to the early '80s. Most varieties of the initial trials were not accepted by the consumers due to their sensory properties. The recent generation of fungus-resistant grape varietals show much more compromising results and a higher acceptance on the market. Sensory Analysis Analytical Methods Sensory analysis was performed by a trained panel with specific Aroma compounds were analyzed by HS-SPME using a 2 cm 50/30 µm expertise in wine tasting consisting of 12 members. All panelists DVB/Carboxen/PDMS fiber with different techniques and parameters. The aroma are members of the Austrian Wine quality board which is substances except Isobutylmethoxypyrazine were quantified by the standard responsible for the Austrian wine quality banderol, where a addition procedure with GC-MS (SIM) at 5 different concentration levels adjusted to sensory judgment for each quality wine is mandatory.

  • California's Wildfire Siege
PAYWALL ACCESS Email: [email protected] Password: password1 CALIFORNIA’S WILDFIRE SIEGE How the San Francisco Chronicle covered the record-setting blazes of 2020 In August and September, we saw 7.8 million page views to our interactive fire tracker project, including individual pages dedicated to the LNU Lightning Complex and Glass fires. If there’s a typical breaking news story, this wasn’t it. This was a cascading di- saster that unfolded not in an hour or a day, but over two months, relentlessly. Starting in mid-August, a siege of dry lightning unleashed fires unprecedented even by California standards. Flames blasted into rural towns and cities. Smoke choked the sky. By season’s end, 9,600 fires had burned a record-setting 4.4 mil- lion acres, destroyed 10,000-plus homes and businesses, and killed 33 people. Though the stage had been set by drought, climate change and government failure, California was not prepared. There weren’t enough firefighters and evacuees confront- ed the spreading coronavirus. But the Chronicle staff was prepared, after spending the previous three years reorganizing its entire newsroom around fire season. The Chronicle staff — while covering a pandemic and an election and coping with the restrictions of remote work — documented the fires aggressively, 24 hours a day, with a varied and innovative array of journalism that gave readers critical informa- tion even as it raised difficult questions about the state’s future. This included: • On-the-ground reporting and a drumbeat of enterprise and investigative work; • Vivid photography and videography; • Nonstop “live updates” and news alerts; • Multimedia tools including fire, air-quality and power-outage trackers; • Podcasts and social media delivered in real-time from the field; • Explainers on what readers needed to know to understand the story and be safe; • Deep narrative storytelling that illuminated the human costs.
