They combine Irish traditional music with old-time Americana and bluegrass influences to reveal the banjo’s rich legacy and roots. Enda & Fergal Scahill and Martin & David Howley are among the most cele- brated and distinguished musicians in Ireland today. They are holders of multiple All Ireland music titles on banjo, fiddle, bodhran and guitar. Their latest album, String Theory, recently debuted at #1 on the Bill- board World Music Charts. Gaelic Storm has straddled the line between tradition and innova- tion for nearly two decades. Led by founding members Patrick Murphy and Steve Twigger, the group infuses traditional Celtic music with mod- ern influences, updating the genre for a new generation of fans raised on rock, country and folk. Along the way, the musicians have topped the Billboard World Chart four times, ap- peared in the blockbuster film “Ti- tanic” (where they performed “Irish Party in Third Class,” an unreleased song made available for the first time on Full Irish) and earned a reputation as a hard-touring, genre-bending band. Regularly playing more than 120 shows a year, Gaelic Storm has built a loyal following as diverse as the band’s own music. Fans of tradi- tional Irish music have championed the group for years, but so have fans of harder-edged Celtic rock. Fee Recommendation – Foellinger Theatre 2018 Season House Show Gaelic Storm – September 5 Tickets Available at $24 Band Description: Gaelic Storm is a Celtic band. Their musical output includes pieces from traditional Irish music, Scottish music, and original tunes in both the Celtic and Celtic rock genres. Their most recent album, Go Climb A Tree, was released on July 28, 2017. Gaelic Storm's origins can be traced back to 1996, when Patrick Murphy and Steve Wehmeyer joined with Steve Twigger and Uillean piper Brian Walsh to perform at O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Santa Monica, California, of which Murphy was the manager. This led to a number of pub performances for the next year. In 1997, the band appeared in the film Titanic as the steerage band. This appearance catapulted them into the touring scene; their performances were met with critical praise and popularity. They have toured throughout the United States and Canada, in the United Kingdom, France and Japan. Gaelic Storm features founders Patrick Murphy, lead vocalist and Steve Twigger on acoustic guitar along with Ryan Lacey on drums and world percussion (a two-time graduate of the Los Angeles Music Academy, first for hands and then for sticks), Pete Purvis of Merrickville, Ontario, on uilleann pipes, tin whistle, deger pipes and highland pipes (a Grade 1 piper who toured with award-winning pipe bands including the Braemar Pipe Band and played at 2000 Sydney Olympics), and Katie Grennan of Pittsburgh on fiddle. Gaelic Storm takes a true blue-collar, hard-nose approach to touring, consistently traveling the US and internationally over 200 days a year, forging a unique path in the Celtic music world.

MOHAWK VALLEY IRISH CULTURAL Volume 13, Issue 2 EVENTS NEWSLETTER Feb 2016 2016 GAIF Lineup Includes a Mix of Old and New The official lineup for the 2016 Great American Irish Festival was announced at the Halfway to GAIF Hooley held January 31 at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro, with a compact array of veteran GAIF performers and an equal number of acts making their first appearance at the festival, and styles ranging from the delicate to the raucous. Headlining the traditional stage at this year’s festival will be an act that has become a cultural phenomenon, Ireland’s Folk Band of the year and winners of Irish Music Award’s Top Traditional Performance Show, the High Kings. Boasting a musical pedigree that few can match, and fresh off record-breaking PBS showings, four musical powerhouses, Finbarr Clancy of the legendary Clancy family, Brian Dunphy, son of well-known singer, Sean Dunphy, Martin Furey of the famous Furey family of musicians, and renowned vocalist Darren Holden have come together to create the most exciting Irish ballad group to emerge since The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem electrified the worldwide folk revival of the 1960s. For those whose tastes are a bit more contemporary, back to headline this year’s festival for the 10th consecutive year will be high-energy festival favorites, The Elders. Joining them on the Contemporary stage will be Central New York favorites, Enter the Haggis, making their long-awaited return to the festival that helped launch them to prominence in 2005. Joining the High Kings on the traditional stage will be Philadelphia’s award-winning Irish roots band, Runa, and the band we predict is going to most open the eyes and ears of GAIF attendees this year, Dallahan; recently nominated for Best Up and Coming Artist of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards.

MOHAWK VALLEY IRISH CULTURAL Volume 16, Issue 11 EVENTS NEWSLETTER Nov 2019 There’s a Gaelic Storm Brewing! On Sunday, November 24th, the genre-bending Gaelic Storm makes a return to the general area with a very special 7 PM show at Daryl’s House, in Pawling NY. With a career that began as a pub band, through their appearance as a Third Class party band (“third class” is a location, not a rating!) and now to the present, they’ve topped the Billboard World Chart six times and regularly headline the largest Irish Festivals across the country. While Gaelic Storm plays Celtic music that hearkens back to the traditional music of Ireland, they are hardly traditionalists, adding modern sounds and drawing influences from American rock and pop as well as music styles from around the world (my favorite quote describes them as “…nicely out of sync with the norm”). This show supports their latest CD, “Go Climb a Tree,” which features Patrick Murphy and Steve Twigger at their song-writing best, gluing all the tracks together with the spark and spirit of a band that’s spent over 20 years on the road. Tickets for the show are $30, and are available on-line. Daryl’s House is located at 130 Route 22 in Pawling, NY. Enter the Haggis Returns to Syracuse On Friday November 29th, Toronto’s Enter the Haggis comes back to the area, visiting one of their favorite local haunts, Syracuse’s Westcott Theater. Long-time Central New York favorites Enter the Haggis has built an international touring and recording career based on its unique approach to Celtic-based music and high-energy performances.
