Who is that true Jivanmukhta ever happy and what is he like? Adi Sankara has answers to it. He has given us the Hastamalaka stotra and the eight-sloka Para Puja to dispel delusion about God. Hastamalaka stotra is indeed enlightening. Hastamalaka was born to a Brahmin and from childhood he was very indifferent to worldly affairs. His worried father took him to Adi Sankara when Sankara visited his village. The father lamented about his son saying: “ My son is now 13 years old and indifferent to worldly affairs nor is he interested to study Vedas which a Brahmin is duty-bound. Why is my son in such a dull state of mind?” What the world had failed to understand about Hastamalaka, Sankara instinctively senses the boy to be a true Jivanmukta or one aware of Eternal Truth. Sankara puts the first question to the boy: KASTVAM SISO KASYA KUTO’SI GANTA (O Child! Who are you?) The boy replies fluently and the crux of what he says is “I am NIJABODHARUPAHA” or the Eternal Self, not the self identified with a physical decaying body. It offers some idea how mundane is our effort in pleasing God. Here is what it is: When the indivisible, eternally blissful, free from transition or change, and induplicate gets stationary (or understood) in mind, then tell me how can I do the prayers!||1|| What should be to used to invoke the complete and what should be used as a seat for the One Who is the supreme pillar of existence? Where is the way to clean the feet of the spotless and where is the way to purify the pure.||2|| Of what use is a sacred thread to One Who has no caste or creed? What is the use of fragrance for the One Who cannot be applied and hat is the use of garland for someone Who cannot wear?||3|| What is the use of jewellery for One without discrimination and What will be an adoration for the formless?||4|| What will a dispassionate One, Who is omnipresent, do with dhūpa and dīpa? And of what use will be savory sweet for that Who is satisfied in One's own bliss.||5|| What is the point in offering tāmbūla to the Father of the bliss of the world, Who is self-luminous, Who is the universal spirit, and Who shines forth the sun, the moon and others.||6|| How is circumambulation of the infinite, Who is induplicable, possible? How do we eulogize an entity Who is beyond the scope of the sentences of the Veda.||7|| How do we offer light to the resplendent self-luminous One? And how do we dress someone Who is complete in every way?||8|| This is the only Parāpūjā that should be kept without doubt, in every age, by those who know the Brahma.||9|| O Śambhu! You are my Ātman, Girijā is my mind, Your accompaniments are my life-forces, Your body is my residence. My various enjoyment and constructions be Your prayer. My sleep be the state of meditation. My walking be Your circumambulation and my spoken words be Your eulogies. "Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, daddy; this is for you. "With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's daddy reached out with one hand to take the dime store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny. He had them all the time… He was just waiting for her to give up the dime-store stuff so he could give her the genuine treasure. The Moral of this story So it is, with God. He is waiting for us to give up the cheap things in our lives so that he can give us beautiful treasures. Are you holding onto things that God wants you to let go of? Are you holding on to harmful or unnecessary partners, relationships, habits and activities that you have come so attached to that it seems impossible to let go? Sometimes it is so hard to see what is in the other hand but do believe this one thing." God will never take away something without giving you something better in its place." The feminic natured Shukra is a Brahminical planet. He was born on Friday in the year Paarthiva on Sraavana Suddha Ashtami when Swathi Nakshatra is on the ascent. Hence, Friday is known as Shukravaar in Indian languages especially Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi , Gujarati and Kannada. He went on to study Vedas under rishi Angirasa but he was disturbed by Angirasa's favouritism to his son Brihaspati. He then went to study under rishi Gautama. He later performed penance to Lord Shiva and obtained the Sanjivani mantra (a hymn that can revive the dead). During this period Brihaspati became the Guru (Preceptor) of the divine people Devaa. Out of jealousy, Shukracharya decides to become the Guru of Asuras. He helps them achieve victory over the Devas and uses his magic to revive the dead and wounded Asuras. [email protected] In one story, Lord Vishnu is born as the Brahmin sage Vamana. Vamana comes to take the three worlds as alms from the asura King Bali. Lord Vishnu wanted to deceive the King Bali who was the grandson of the great ing Prahlad, in order to help the Devas. The sage Shukracharya identifies him immediately and warns the King. The King is however a man of his word and offers the gift to Vamana. Shukracharya, annoyed with the pride of the King, shrinks himself with his powers and sits in the spout of the vase, from which water has to be poured to seal the promise to the deity in disguise.

    THE VISHNU PURANA The Vishnu Purana has twenty-three thousand shlokas. Skanda Purana has eighty-one thousand shloka and Markandeya Purana only nine thousand. The Vishnu Purana also has six major sections or amshas, although the last of these is really short. Maitreya and Parashara Once the sage Maitreya came to the sage Parashara and wanted to know about the creation of the universe. And this is what Parashara told him. In the beginning the universe was full of water. But in that water there emerged a huge egg (anda) that was round like a water-bubble. The egg became bigger and bigger and inside the egg there was Vishnu. This egg was called Brahmanda. And inside Brahmanda there were the mountains and the land, the oceans and the seas, the gods, demons and humans and the stars. On all sides, the egg was surrounded by water, fire, wind, the sky and the elements. Inside the egg, Vishnu adopted the form of Brahma and proceeded to create the universe. When the universe is to be destroyed, it is Vishnu again who adopts the form of Shiva and performs the act of destruction. Let us therefore salute the great god Vishnu. There are four yugas or eras. These are called krita (or satya), treta, dvapara and kali. Krita era consists of four thousand years, treta of three thousand, dvapara of two thousand and kali of one thousand. All the four eras thus pass in ten thousand. And when all the four eras have passed one thousand times each, that is merely one day for Brahma.

Symbolism in Retrospect 261 4 5 Preface The Indian psyche is saturated with the idea that the Veda is Sabdabrahman, the Word-form of the Brahman and is, therefore, as vast and infinite as the Brahman. ‘Anantaa vai Vedaah’, that is, ‘Infinite indeed is the Veda!’ is the age old saying. The Veda, according to the most ancient tradition, is knowledge infinite and eternal. The word Veda means, derivatively, knowledge as a direct experience.
