Peace, Love & Magic Peace, Love & Magic Stu, Kathyfrom & Brittany Reid Luna! & 1 - PHOEBE BRIDGERS - If We Make It Through December 15 - THE BURNING HELL - Everybody’s Home For The Holidays For most everyone, the ol’ Merle Haggard chestnut is hitting way to close to home this year. Hang in there. “Mathias Kom’s Holy Hullabaloo” is the album. It’s a ton or two o’ seasonal fun. 2 - MELANIA TRUMP - Jolly Christmas Greeting 16 - CALEXICO - Sonoran Snoball 3 - THE DOLLYROTS - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) 2020’s “Seasonal Shift” is Xmas music from Tucson, but this cut travelled all over the world before it was done. I think we can now proclaim these Californians the official pop-punk band of Christmas. Download their 12-track Christmas album “A Very Dollyrots Christmas” on Bandcamp today. It’s free if you’re a cheap bastard. 17 - TAMI NIELSON - TwangTrust I.D. 18 - TAMI NIELSON - Pretty Paper 4 - THE FLESHTONES - Hooray for Santa Claus Tami’s “Chickaboom” was way up there on our official best-of-2020 list. Milton DeLugg & the Little Eskimos did the original on the soundtrack to the 1964 camp classic “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”. The Fleshtones did it on their 2008 “Stocking Stuffers” disc but this year 19 - MARGO PRICE - River both versions came on a green vinyl 45 with accompanying DVD of the movie for Record Store Day! Is “Die Hard” a Christmas movie? Is “River” a Christmas song? What dumb questions... 5 - THE MYRRHDERERS - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas 20 - BEN CAPLAN - O Holy Night Maybe the best band AND album name ever. The other 4 tracks on this North Pole punk supergroup’s All Agnostic’s favourite religious Christmas carol. This is amazing. “The Myrrhderers Sleigh Christmas” EP are way punkier but we like this one best. 21 - BEN CAPLAN - TwangTrust Christmas Greeting 6 - NICOLE ATKINS - Every Single Christmas Even though this Jersey girl wrote (most of) this song, JD McPherson recorded (and finished writing) the 22 - MURDER BY DEATH - Holiday Road song first on his “Socks” LP a couple years back. Here’s Nicole’s brand new version. Collect ‘em all! I expected MBD’s seasonal outting to be way darker than it is. “Lonesome Holiday” is almost jolly! 7 - SOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS - Surfing on Christmas Day 23 - JERRY JEFF WALKER - Here Comes Santa Claus / Up On The Housetop New from the SCOTS for 2020. “Christmas Gonzo Style”. We lost Mr. Bojangles himself this year. Phooey. 8 - MILLIE SMALL - I’ve Fallen in Love with a Snowman 24 - BILLY JOE SHAVER - Feliz Navidad The 15 year old Jamaican who brought us “My Boy Lollipop” in 1964, died this year at age 72. Even the eternal Billy Joe was no match for the crap show that is 2020. Here’s a peppy little sugarplum to remember him by from 2005’s “The Real Deal” featuring Flaco Jiminez on accordian. 9 - SWEET LIZZY PROJECT - It’s Christmas (Everything Will Be Alright) The Mavericks Cuban pals brought us a swell Xmas EP this year. Maybe the best live stream band around! 25 - ELI ‘PAPERBOY’ REED - Last Christmas Everytime I hear a new version of this song I love it a little more. You done good, George Michael. 10 - NICK LOWE & LOS STRAITJACKETS - Let It Snow I think this new version by Mr. Reed is my new favourite. 11 - LEAF RAPIDS - Blue Christmas 26 - JOHN PRINE - A John Prine Christmas Intro live at The StuDome last Christmas (*sigh*), song from Live at the Roslyn. Beer sponsors = better recording. 27 - JOHN PRINE - Silent Night All Day Long 12 - FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE - Valley Winter Song I met John Prine at the 1989 Winnipeg Folk Festival. I got him to sign a copy of the very first Oh Boy Records R.I.P., Adam Schlesinger. From 2003’s “Welcome Interstate Managers”. What a crap year... record - a red vinyl 45 of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” b/w “Silent Night”. We talked about our mutual love for Christmas music. “He talked Christmas music with John Prine.” That’s tombstone worthy, right there. 13 - ANDREW BIRD - Christmas in April Our first Covid-19 Christmas song. From the brand new “Hark”. 28 - DAVID OLNEY - Good King Wenceslas Another tragic loss this year. Interviewed him once at the Folk Fest too. Super-sweet fella. 14 - RED MOON ROAD - A Simple Kind of Christmas Wow, this year sucked. We have a lot of hugs saved up for you this time next year. See you then. Our second Covid-19 Christmas song. Title cut to local proto-pop avant-folk trio’s 2020 Xmas release. .

During the first half of the 1990s, pop music vastly outnumbered underground/experimental music. It was the revenge of melody, after a quarter of a century of progressive sounds. A cycle that began with the demise of the Beatles and the rise of alternative/progressive rock, and that continued with the German and Canterbury schools of the 1970s, and then punk-rock and the new wave, and peaked with the alt-rock and college- pop of the 1980s, came to an abrupt, grinding halt in the 1990s. The more fashionable and rewarding route was, however, the one that coasted the baroque pop of latter-day Beach Boys, Van Dyke Parks, Big Star and XTC, the one that coupled catchy refrains and lush arrangements. The single most important school may have been San Francisco's, which had originated in the 1980s with the Sneetches. Jellyfish (2), featuring guitarist Jason Falkner, wrote perhaps the most impeccable melodies of the time. Bellybutton (1990), a milestone of naive, bubblegum melodic music inspired by Merseybeat and later Beach Boys, was both cartoonish and shimmering, while the arrangements on Spilt Milk (1993) were almost baroque.

  • The Needfinding Machine
The Needfinding Machine Nikolas Martelaro and Wendy Ju Abstract Interactive systems present new opportunities for creating devices that attempt to learn the needs of people. However, inferring from data alone may not always allow for a true understanding of user needs. We suggest a vision of Social IoT where designers interact with users through machines as a new method for needfind- ing. We present a framework using interactive systems as Needfinding Machines. Acting through a Needfinding Machine, the designer observes behavior, asks ques- tions, and remotely performs the machine in order to understand the user within a situated context. To explore a Needfinding Machine in use, we created DJ Bot, an interactive music agent that allows designers to remotely control music and talk to users about why they are listening. We show three test sessions where designers used DJ Bot with people listening to music while driving. These sessions suggest how Needfinding Machines can be used by designers to help empathize with users, discover potential needs and explore future alternatives for Social Internet of Things products. 1 Introduction The Internet of Things has expanded beyond industrial settings to encompass every- day products from toothbrushes to autonomous cars. Cheap microprocessors and wireless networking allow designers to make everyday objects “smart,” with the capabilities to collect data, make decisions, and interact with people. But what is the best way to design these Internet of Things products so that they fit into the social context of people’s lives? How can designers learn more about the environments these products will be deployed in, the uses people will want, and the problems people will encounter? During a human-centered design process, needfinding is an N.

  • KLOS Super Single Sunday 2015
1 1 2 2 3 SUPER SINGLES SUNDAY 2015 9AM Tony Sheridan - My Bonnie – w/ The Beatles 1961 The Beatles first appearance on a commercial disc. 3 4 The Beatles - Love Me Do – Please Please Me (McCartney-Lennon) Lead vocal: John and Paul The Beatles’ first single release for EMI’s Parlophone label. Released October 5, 1962, it reached #17 on the British charts. Principally written by Paul McCartney in 1958 and 1959. Recorded with three different drummers: Pete Best (June 6, 1962, EMI), Ringo Starr (September 4, 1962), and Andy White (September 11, 1962 with Ringo playing tambourine). The 45 rpm single lists the songwriters as Lennon-McCartney. One of several Beatles songs Paul McCartney owns with Yoko Ono. Starting with the songs recorded for their debut album on February 11, 1963, Lennon and McCartney’s output was attached to their Northern Songs publishing company. Because their first single was released before John and Paul had contracted with a music publisher, EMI assigned it to their own, a company called Ardmore and Beechwood, which took the two songs “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You.” Decades later McCartney and Ono were able to purchase the songs for their respective companies, MPL Communications and Lenono Music. Fun fact: John Lennon shoplifted the harmonica he played on the song from a shop in Holland. On U.S. albums: Introducing… The Beatles (Version 1) - Vee-Jay LP The Early Beatles - Capitol LP The Beatles - Let It Be - album version - Let It Be 4 5 (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul “Let It Be” was the last song properly recorded on multi-track at Apple Studios during the “Get Back” sessions in January 1969.
