Hun huskes for romanen Tatt av vinden, som kom ut i 1936. Den har lagt handlingen til tiden for borgerkrigen sett fra sørstatenes synpunkt. Boka fikk den prestisjetunge Pulitzer-prisen for 1937, og solgte i enorme opplag. Den ble også oversatt til en rekke språk. I et intervju i 1943 erklærte Margaret Mitchell at det å være forfatteren av Tatt av vinden var en hel- tids beskjeftigelse. Dette er kanskje også forklaringen på at det ikke kom flere bøker fra henne mens hun levde. Hun døde etter å ha blitt påkjørt av en bil, bare 48 år gammel. REGISSØR Victor Fleming, f. 1889, d.1949. Under hans regi vant Vivien Leigh Oscar for beste kvinnelige hovedrolle. Ni skuespillere som opptrådte i filmer av Fleming ble nominert til Oscar. Han vant selv en Oscar i 1939 for beste regi med filmen Tatt av vinden (Gone with the Wind). Andre kjente filmer - På de store banker -37, Trollmannen fra Oz -39. Siste film var Jeanne d Àrc MUSIKK Max Steiner f.1888, - d.1971 Østerisk-amerikansk komponist for både teater og film. Han var en av de mest respekterte og brilliante komponister av amerikansk filmmusikk. I alt 18 ganger ble han nominert til Oscar for filmusikken han komponerte. Han vant tre priser - for The Informer - 35, Under nye stjerner - 42 og for Since You Went Away - 44. Men han er likevel mest kjent for musikken til Tatt av vinden – 39. SKUESPILLERE Vivian Light, f.1913, d.1967 Engelsk teater - og filmskuespiller. Hun var hovedsakelig teaterskuespiller og spilte store heltinner både i komedier og i klassiske Shakespeare- skuespill. Men hun ble mest berømt for sine store filmroller. To ganger vant hun Oscar, for hovedrollen i Tatt av vinden - 39 og i En sporvogn til begjær -51. Samme rolle hadde hun spilt på scenen i London West End. Hun vant også Tony-prisen for hovedrollen i musikalen Tovarich – 63. Vivian Light døde bare 53 år gammel av kronisk tuberkulose. Clark Gable f.1901 – d.1960 Amerikansk skuespiller som er mest kjent for rollen som Rhett Butler i Tatt av vinden -39. For rollen ble han nominert til Oscar, men vant ikke. Men han mottok en Oscar for hovedrollen i filmen Det hendte en natt - 34. Andre kjente filmer er Mytteriet på Bounty -35, Alt for kjærligheten -37, Mobambo -53. Den siste filmen ble - Uten feste – 61. Han døde av hjerteinfarkt like etter at innspillingen var ferdig. Olivia de Havilland, f. 1908, d. 1991 Amerikansk skuespiller som var en av de største filmstjernene på 1930 - 40 tallet. Joan Fontaine var hennes lillesøster. De spilte mot hverandre i La det ikke bli dag - 41, der begge ble nominert til Oscar, men Joan vant. I de fleste filmene spilte hun roller som tjenestepike. Senere deltok hun mest i radio- og TV-show. Henne eget program Beulah, gikk både i radio og på TV fra 1947. Leslie Howard, f. 1893, d. 1943 Britisk skuespiller, regissør og produsent. Han begynte som skuespiller på London-scenen men han hadde størst suksess på Broadway. En av hans mest kjente roller var i filmen Tatt av vinden - 39. Han ble nominert til Oscar to ganger, for rollene i Pygmalion - 38 og for Berkeley Square -33, men han vant ikke. Andre kjente filmer - Den røde Pimpernel -34, Pimpernel Smith - 41. Leslie Howard døde i 1943 da han ble skutt ned av et tysk fly over Biscayabukta. Butterfly McQueen, f. 1911 – d.1995 Amerikansk skuespiller og danser. Hennes første filmrolle var i Tatt av vinden – 39. Hun hadde ingen stor filmkarriere, men deltok i enkelte TV- show i de neste årene. Alicia Rhett, f.1915 – d.2014 Amerikansk skuespiller og portrettmaler. Hun huskes best for rollen sin i Tatt av vinden - 39. Som portrettmaler illustrerte hun en rekke bøker. Hun var den eldste gjenlevende fra filmen Tatt av vinden , da hun døde 99 år gammel. .

    Gone with the Wind Gone with the Wind, motion-picture epic about a tempestuous Southern belle and the changes in her life due to the American Civil War (1861-1865), based on the best- selling novel by Margaret Mitchell.
